A Little Not So Scary Fun is Right Around The Corner! Updated 10/26 - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

It was pretty crazy for sure! We have never had anything like that happen at a game before. We are happy we were able to find pretty much everything we were looking for.

It's crazy how some people can act at a kids sporting event.

I hate when I hear about this kind of behavior by parents at kids' games. I don't blame that poor girl for being frightened and wanting to leave.
I have a feeling the high-five hand will be making a trip to WDW!
We were really shocked by the behavior of that guy. He never even addressed the dad about how his daughter was treated. he just kept yelling at him. If the High Five Hand gets here in time it will definitely be making the trip.

It was crazy, we have never had anything like that happen at one of our games. I was really concerned that it was not going to end peacefully.

Anyways, sound like a pretty eventful day. You got lots of things done.
It's crazy and makes you wonder when those "adults" are going to grow up. We did get a lot accomplished.
Oh my, I can't believe how that other parent acted at the soccer game It was a great weekend other wise!
It was crazy. I was just baffled by the fact that every time the dad on our team would say something about the way the other guy treated his daughter the guy would just yell at him about cussing him out. He never acknowledged the issue at hand. It was a great weekend though!
As promised, todays post will be focused on our FastPass+ selections with just a few updates about our week at the end.
When choosing our FastPass+ selections, Jamie and I looked at getting all of our selections early in the day to allow for additional passes when available. We will also be using the DAS for Selah. Making the FP+ selections proved to be a lot more difficult than I thought it would be.
Park Day 1: Oct. 29th - MK
* Pirates of the Caribbean 9:20
* Splash Mountain 10:25
* Big Thunder Mountain 11:25
We are planning to send one person straight to 7DMT with the DAS to get a return time. When we made our selections there was not a FP+ available for this ride.
This is from our last trip. We are on Splash Mountain and I had just told her we were getting ready to go down the big slide.
Park Day 2: Oct. 30th - Epcot
* Soarin’ 9:20
* Spaceship Earth 10:25
* The Seas with Nemo & Friends 11:25
I am not fond of the tiers at Epcot and DHS. I don’t really foresee needing FP’s for Spaceship Earth or Nemo. We really wanted a Fp for Test Track so one person will run and get a return time on the DAS for this ride.
I have not yet decided if I will take Selah on this ride again. She loved it but it stressed me out last time. By the time we do this park we will have been on a few other thrill rides and I will make my decision based on that.
Asher was “being” the Dinosaur.
Park Day 4: Nov. 1st - DHS
* Star Tours 9:05
* Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster 10:05
* Tower of Terror 11:15
We will send one person to go to TSMM when we first arrive to get a return time on the DAS. Again, this was a time when I did not like the tier system. We would have chose TSMM instead of Star Tours. We like Star Tours but we are confident we can get on that ride easily. We are not as confident about TSMM especially with the testing they did a couple of weeks ago with only allowing FP+ and no standby or DAS. I didn’t really agree with that either.
We do not have Space Mountain on either of our MK days but Jamie and I might be the only ones to ride that. If we decide to do it we will try for a FP+ after the others are used or try later in the day. If we don’t ride it is fine. Asher has said that he might like to ride this with us. We will see how he does with Thunder Mountain. Asher is not much into thrill rides but feels like (based on what some of his friends have told him) he will really like Thunder Mountain. He has also heard that Space Mountain is very much like Thunder Mountain just in the dark. I think he will like Thunder Mountain but I’m not so sure he will go through with riding Space Mountain when it comes down to it. Selah would love Space Mountain but that is one we will not allow her to do. She cannot ride anything that she has to sit by herself.
Asher has always loved to get this picture. Now that he is getting older we will see if that has changed. I hope not.
There you have all of our FastPasses for the week and some plans to use the DAS. It will be used more but those things listed are the important ones and what we know for sure we will be going for first thing.
This week I have worked a little on getting the kids clothes packed. I am not quite finished yet. I still have laundry I have to wash before I can finish their packing. Mine and Jamie’s clothes will not get packed until the weekend. Here where we live we are still wearing our summer clothes and the kids have a lot more clothes than we do. I pretty much pack all their Disney related clothes for WDW. This trip there will be some Halloween clothes in the mix.
We have had a little issue come up this week that may affect how we tour the world next week. On Monday night, Jamie had a softball game. He is on a men’s softball team. The game was almost over and Jamie was running the bases, I believe, when he heard a pop in his calf muscle. He tore his calf muscle. He stayed home from work yesterday icing it and keeping it elevated as well as wrapping it. Today he went back to work because there are things he has to take care of before we leave. Jamie is self employed and does custom remodeling. He has several jobs going on right now and since he is self employed he cannot call in sick. He loves what he does and the freedom it gives him when it comes to taking of work for things like Selah’s dr appts and things but at the same time it doesn’t come with benefits. NO sick leave, no vacation pay, etc. Everything rests on him. I would have been happy for him to stay home one more day to rest his leg but I understand when he needs to go. He is not doing anything strenuous today, just running errands, picking up materials, etc. However, this injury could very much affect our touring next week. We are hopeful we won’t have to rent a wheelchair.

I agree with you, I strongly dislike the tiers at Epcot and DHS. But I must say that for SE, I saw waits of 35 minutes or more when we went. It was the beginning of June but still kind of long. Star Tours never had more than 10 minutes.
We haven't been to the parks since FP+ took over, but I agree with you I don't like the idea of the tiers. It looks like you made some good choices though, and I'm sure it will all work out fine. for Jamie's leg!!
