Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Thursday, June 12: PART 2 - Magic Kingdom

Thursday, June 12: PART 2 - Magic Kingdom

Candi and I have already been enjoying the park for over an hour by this point, and it is really starting to get crowded. One of the podcast that I listen to (WDW Prepschool) almost never recommends to do the park with EMH unless you plan to leave in mid-morning for another park. I was starting to see the reasoning in her suggestion. This was going to be a hopping day at the Magic Kingdom, but we were already committed.

By this time it was about 9:30, so we were killing time until our 10:00 am FP+ for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. I was especially excited about it. I had heard great things about the que line, but looking at the line at this point I was happy to have a FP+. When we walked by, the line was out of the gate and wrapped all the way around the front of the ride all the way to the Teacups. WOW!

Candi had broken her sunglasses earlier in the morning getting out of the SM ride vehicle, and she decided she was going to have to bite the bullet and get a new pair we. So we used this time looking. She found a pair as a kiosk near the Brave character location outside Cosmic Ray’s. They were cute, with little Mickey shapes on them in tiny rhinestones. I think she had to pay about $25, but she was okay with that being one of her souvenirs.

We leisurely walked passed the MT line to the FP+ and checked in right as 10 am, scanned our Magic Band and followed the path to the ride. Wondering all the while about what we were missing with the interactive elements in the line, but passing it all by. In just a few minutes we were ushered onto the ride. I was a little concerned about the comfort of the seat and lap bar, as I had heard bad things. As you can see, we are not small people. However, neither of us were uncomfortable. While it may have been a little snug, we were cozy and basically comfortable.

Then we were off. I am accustomed to coasters where you will make an initial climb to the highest point. This some does not do that, it starts right out of the gate and boy is it fun. I like this type of coaster -- thrilling, but not scary. Anyone should be able to enjoy this ride. I do wish the actual time in the mine with the dwarfs was longer. It was just so fun and so much to look at. Then back out into the coaster part. The look inside the cottage with the dancing Snow and dwarfs was really a cute detail. Of course I had read enough reviews to know to look back at the cottage as you pass to see the witch at the door. I should had told my wife, she missed the witch. Then almost a quick as it began, we are right back in the starting gate wishing for another round. I left hoping we would get another chance this trip, but doubtful it would happen.

Our next FP+ was not due until 11:00 am for Enchanted Tales With Belle, so we had lots of time to explore. We had not actually made it to the New Fantasyland yet. So we started at the main entrance near the castle. This addition was amazing. If not for the crowds, you would feel as if you were transplanted to an imaginary place in your mind. We spotted Belle’s cottage where we would return in a little while, but for now we headed down the lane towards Gaston’s. We did a walk through of Gaston’s. We thought about getting a Brew, but pass on through. He was outside, and what a character he was. The line was too long to get an autograph, but he was fun to watch for a minute. Then we decided to spend a few minutes in the gift shop with all the Belle’s merchandise. I am surprised we did not get something for our little one, because there were lots of temptations, but we managed to leave wallet in my pocket.

Moving on, next we came to The Little Mermaid ride. Stand by was only 20 minutes, so in line we went. I do not really think we had to wait that long. The entrance and details in the line leave you wishing there was a line so you had time to look closer. We barely even slowed down until we were well inside the belly of the mountain. Most of the line inside was blocked off, and we were ushered straight to a shell. What a cute ride this is, but it reminds me of the show at the Studios -- very short and to the point. The basic story of both says, there is a mermaid who gets legs from a sea hag, then she gets married to the prince. Lots of details left out, but I guess that is just the nature of the game.

As we headed out we thought about a visit to her grotto, but the line was too long. We just kept heading down the lane. Now the circus was calling our name. It just looked so fun and inviting. It was close to 11 am, but we knew we did not have to be there right at that time. So we decided to try out Dumbo. The line was really moving. I do not think we stopped moving until we got to the playground. My kids will fall in love with this place. I doubt we will be able to ride Dumbo, because they will not want to leave. However, Candi and I were not there to climb and play, so when our buzzer went off we got in line. We asked to each have our own Dumbo so that we would not be squished in. That was the right move. What a fun ride and fun view of the park from that high up. I understand why this is such a classic. The addition of the water made it so beautiful.

With just about 15 minutes until our Belle FP+ window closed we decided to chance it and get on Barnstormer. There was almost no wait and we got right on. Here is where we made another mistake. We thought we would ride in the same car, but that was not going to happen. As a result, Candi had to wait back, and we were on separate rides, but boy was this another fun coaster.

When we got off we had to hoof it over to Enchanted Tales With Belle. As it was the FP+ line was empty. there were only a few others in that line with us, but we did not have to wait long before they let us inside and the tale began.

The cottage is amazing. I loved the detail in the inventions in the first room. Boy, they do pack you in there. but it was such fun to look around at all the gadgets. You really do not have time to explore, nor the room, but there is more than your eyes can take in. Then to hear the excitement and amazement of the kids in the room as the magic mirror becomes a door. That was such a neat effect. In the next room we meet the wardrobe and all get suited up for a part in the show. I got a part as a night, but I think I stole it from another man behind me. I thought he was talking to me so I stepped forward. Oh well, it was a lot of fun and so was the show.

I do have one regret. I assumed that the pictures the photographer took would be on my Magic Band like everything else. However, I later found out they were not, but rather on a card she was giving out. I missed it, and also missed out on the pictures. I wonder why they do not fix that?

By this time our tummies are letting us know it is time for lunch. There was some discussion about where to go, but I had a plan. I wanted to go to Cosmic Ray’s and I eventually won out. Now going there at noon may not have been the very best move, but that is when we were hungry. I ordered for us. Candi had the cheeseburger and I had a chicken sandwich. After a pass though the fixins bar, we started looking for a seat. I went there to be able to enjoy Ray, so we got in that line. There were cast members at the door looking for open tables and directing people where to sit. This helped out, and they found us a table for in the front. Ray was a hoot, I bet our kids would love him.

We had a great lunch. Again, it is the simple and least expensive meals that are striking a chord with us the most. Candi enjoyed every bit of her sandwich and my chicken was excellent. I could had eaten that again. We especially liked the toppings bar. We both love to have honey mustard or ranch with our fries, and both were there Plus the melted plastic cheese that is so yummy poured on anything was available for FREE. This meal has helped to settle things in our minds. Next year, we will do far fewer sit down and more counter service. For us the food is a bigger hit, and it does not hit as hard on the wallet. We left stuffed, as we both had water lunch was about $25.

We took our time at lunch, then headed toward Haunted Mansion. There was not a line, so right in we went. We did of course play with some of the interactive elements along the way. I am a big fan of HM, just a lot of fun.

When we came out it was raining, as it did EVERY afternoon of our trip so we ducked into Hall Of Presidents for a show, then over to Country Bears to avoid the rain. Bloth classic Disney.

Now it is just about time for the new Festival of Fantasy Parade, which I was very excited to see. I had intentionally planned to view it from Frontierland while underneath the awning outside Pecos Bills. But it was just a few minutes til showtime, and they had not started blocking off the road. I knew it was not a good sign. So I asked a cast member if it was canceled. He said they did sometimes cancel, not due to rain, but for lightening. Just about that time came the announcement -- NO parade. I was so disappointed. I had not planned to be back in the MK during parade time again, so we would either have to rearrange the schedule or miss it altogether.

It was still raining and we soon found that almost every ride that had any outside elements was not running. We discovered this when we tried to get on the Steam Boat. That is what the cast member told us it was down as were most outdoor rides, so most of the running rides were packed. This even meant that we would miss out Jungle Cruise FP+ a little later. Not a short shhower, it was a good 2-hour rain.

To salvage it, we decided to stop for a Citrus Swirl. We tried the beloved Dole Whip in 2010, and found that we were not big fans. However, we loved the orange and vanilla twisted treat. As we ate, we saw that The Tiki Room was about to start. We had not seen it before, and though we thought it was a cute show, we were just to tires. I think both of us nodded off a time or two during the show.

It was getting close to Ohana time, but as we were right beside Pirates, we decided to duck in and ride. I know we rode this in 2010, but I just did not remember it well. I did not remember the mermaids in the water at the start, I did not remember the drop, and I did not even remember the huge battle scene. Like riding for the first time.

Now it was time to get ready for the meal I was most excited about of the week. So far we had not had the greatest track record with sit down dining. California, 50’s Prime Time and also Le Chef De France had all been disappointments. Will O’hana change our opinions?

Sounds like y'all got a lot accomplished at MK even with the rain. I'm sorry about the parade - I hope you were able to get back to see it later in your visit.

One of the first rides I really remember was PoC and when we went back to MK when I was in 8th grade, we rode it again. My parents forgot about the drop and my little brother's hat flew off his head. A quick thinking man in the back of the boat grabbed it and was able to return the hat to us after the ride.

Rain is no fun but it's great when you get to try out new rides because of it! Glad you were able to enjoy some time with Ray as well

I, like you, do favor the CS meals. The cost is excellent & to me, the food is mostly like what you get at a "sit down" place back home like 5 Guys, Panera, olive garden or even your local chinese sit-down/take-out or what have you. Great update! Love the pics and stories

This trip sounds so brilliant. It's giving me plenty of inspiration for my trip there next year - the last time I went to WDW was when I was 9, and next year I will be 30!

We did get a lot done this day. Youl have to stay tuned to see if we are able to catch the parade another day.

PoC is so much fun. We lost a set of mickey ears in Space Ranger Spin in 2010. A cast member ride the ride and got them for us.

It is not at the Dole Whip stand. It is at a stand behind the Magic Carpets. It was yummy. They also have chocolate and vanila soft-serve there that looked good.

Sounds like you are having a great day at MK. Sorry the parade was cancelled. POTC didn't have the Mermaids in 2010. We went in 2011 and they were not there then. Did have the big battle and the drop. More please

Thursday, June 12: PART 3 - Ohana & Magic Kingdom Night

Thursday, June 12: PART 3 - Ohana & Magic Kingdom Night

It is just a little after 4:00 pm, and still raining a little, but nothing will dampen our spirits as we head to the Poly. We’ve never been to this resort before, even to look around, so we were very excited to head over. As we made our way to the front of the park we had to make a transportation decision. We decided to get on one of the little ferry boats. It was a nice quiet ride. The first stop was at the Grand Flo. I often wonder what all the fuss is over the GF, it really has no draw for me. Guess we will have to check it out sometime and see if we change our minds.

Next stop, the Polynesian Resort. As we were crossing the lake we could see that the shore line was all wrapped up in construction. When we arrived at the dock a few minutes before 5:00, they did not appear to be working on it at the moment, but I could see the mess people were talking about.

We got off the boat and headed up the path. We had no idea where we were going, but assumed we would figure it out when we got there. We entered through the ground floor, found a restroom, then started looking for O’Hana. We discovered it was on the second floor, and found the restaurant, but did no know where to check in. After a few minutes of winding through a construction zone, we were checked in and waiting with our pager. We were about 15 minutes early, so we explored the gift shop and looked for an open seat in the waiting area.

I will have to reserve judgement on the Poly until they finish with the construction, but I will say it is a mess right now. Neither Candi or I had been there before, so we do now know what it used to look like. It is a mess right now.

Right on time for our ADR, the buzzer was fired up. We made our way to the restaurant and were shown to our seat. The sights and smells as we passed the grill gave a hint that we were in for a real treat. We followed the host though the restaurant to a window seat near the back. It was a perfect seat. We could not see the construction, but could see out over the plush resort and the lake. I suppose it was as romantic as it could be for O’Hanna.

Right away the food started to arrive. First of course came the the bread and butter. I knew from all the research and reviews that we should pace ourselves, but that bread was soooo yummy. It was yarm and the butter delicious.

Soon the bowl of salad arrived, and we both had just a little of it. We both thought it was really good. On any other occasion, we would have probably finished the bowl, but not tonight. We were trying hard to save room for the “meat fest” that would follow.

Next up came the pot stickers and chicken wings. I did not plan on enjoying these that much, but boy was I wrong. The chicken wings were good, but nothing to come back for. However, the fried potstickers were amazing. I love chinese food, but have never had potstickers this good, especially dipped in that sweet sauce. I would have licked it out of the bowl if I thought it would not have been noticed. We would even ask for a second helping of the pot stickers before the end of the night.

There was also some sorta second plate of lettuce with peas and other things in it. I have to be honest, I have no idea if it was good. Neither of us really knew what to do with it. I am not sure we even touched it.

Then the skewers started coming around. First pork and shrimp, then the steak. All three were absolutely amazing. All were cooked to perfection. I could honestly not pick a favorite meat, because whatever I was chewing on at the time was my favorite. The seasoning was perfect. Candi did have to request some well done steak, but they were happy to accommodate. I have to apologize for the lack of pictures. We were too busy doing other things with our hands.

At some point a huge bowl of noodles and vegetables arrived. Let me just say again, amazing. I am a huge lo mein fan, and these did not disappoint. Such a perfect accompaniment to the meats.

I must have had close a dozen shrimp, and lets just say “several” pieces of pork and steak before I finally had to just push the plate away -- and maybe unbuttoned my shorts. LOL, thank goodness for belts.

The food was to die for, and we were not done yet. Our waiter brought out a couple cupcakes for our anniversary. Of course we had to give them a try. But only a bite or two, as we saw what was coming next. The bread pudding with that amazing sauce. Lets just say, we will be back.

We had not had the greatest track record with sit-down dinners so far at WDW. It is sad when you prefer a $10 burger at the backlot express to a $50 meal at California Grill. But O’Hana changed our mind. This place is now my very favorite restaurant in the world. Not just Disney World, but the whole world. That is a big statement. How on earth would we possibly be able to make it back to the MK for a night of fun?

We did finally roll out of there. This time we decided to take the monorail back to the MK for the night. At this point we are not taking anything fast. We were moving at a much more leisurely pace. The MK was open late that night, but I was not sure how long we would make it.

Honestly I do not remember much about what we did until fireworks, maybe the light parade. I think we sent a while shopping and visiting our friend Bailey in the Candy Shop. We did watch the fireworks from Main Street. We had seen them from CG on Sunday and been disappointed. However, tonight we had an amazing view.

Then as the crowds started heading out of the park we headed into Adventureland. Candi wanted to climb the Swiss Family Treehouse. I know we needed the exercise, but I am not sure how we made it to the top. I have to say, I felt completely safe, but this is very high, and I don't do heights.

Next we moved on to the Jungle Cruise. I explained to the cast member there that we had not been able to use our FP+ that afternoon because the ride was closed for rain. She let us in the FP line and we got right on. It was fun, our captain had the driest sense of humor. Really good time.

Then it was on to Pirates, Splash and Big Thunder. The lines for all were minimal at this point. Eventually we made it to Haunted Mansion again and spent some time in Tomorrowland. There was a dance party going on with the Incredibles. We just watched from the sideline for a few minutes. Ending the night doing everything in Tomorrowland that was open except Space Mountain. Space Ranger Spin was a walk on, Monster’s Laugh Floor was nearly empty, and we at the end we had a private trip to deliver Stitch. It was a lot of fun, but we were all tuckered out and ready to head back to our bed at Saratoga Springs.

We did pick up a treat on the way out. A Mickey dipped apple. It was caramel, dipped in white cholcolate and snicker bar candy. It was one of the best things we had all week. Wish I would have bought another.

You’ll have to hang with me if you want to see how things go tomorrow at Epcot and Rose & Crown Pub. Would it be another bomb or a hit? Stay tuned to find out.
