8 Days Without the Kiddos – June 2014 Trip Report COMPLETED - Page 11 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

My kind of touring style of World Showcase! I love just strolling around, taking in the sights, sampling a few snacks along the way! And gosh darn it - Now I want a piece of salted caramel!! :roll eyes: And my bag is empty

Nice leisurely stroll around WS. I'm enjoying your report and adding the caramel spot to my places to stop!
It was soooo yummy.

We finally landed in France, at La Chef De France right on time for our ADR at 6:00 pm. We waited under the awning as the rain was really coming down. In just a few minutes they called us in. I asked to be seated in the section with the windows on the side facing the lake. We did not get a window seat, but pretty close.
We took a few minutes to look over the menu. Candi decided to go with one of the Pre Fixe mene options. She had the French onion Soup and spare ribs. I wanted to try the snails just so I could say I tried them. My entree was the gourmet Mac & Cheese.
As we talked and gazed into each others eyes -- ye right, we talked about missing our kids -- our waitress brought out some bread. It was a little french baguette and butter. I loved the bread so much, I had to ask for a second. This was one of my favorite parts of the meal. Wish I had some right now.
Pretty quickly our apps came out. Candi tried her soup first, and it was really good, and a huge portion. I would have to help her, and we still did not finish it. Again, food envy here. If we ever went back, I would make this and the bread my entire meal.
Then on to my esquargo, ie snails. Lets just say, I tried them, well actually I ate them. But they were just okay. A little to gummy for me. But they did have lots of garlic, and I love garlic. At $12, I felt the need to finish them, and now I have the braging right. Next time, I'll order the soup -- LOL!
Our main courses were kinda the same in terms of how we felt about them, they were okay. I would not say this was my favorite meal, but we both enjoyed what we had. My "fancy" mac-n-cheese had a very strong cheese flavor, and not a cheese I am used to. Candi's was better. Her spare ribs, ie roast was and potatoes were very good and the meat was so tender. Again, this is becoming a trend. Our favorite meals are happening at counter service locations for $20 as opposed to $70+ table service, go figure.
The real treat came in the form of Creme Brulee as dessert. Yum! This was our second time to have this in three days in different places. It was not as good at CG, but we still licked the platter clean. Or at least we would have it we though noone was watching.
So out the door we go, reflecting on the meal. It was pretty romantic, and probably as close to a cafe in France as we will ever get. I am happy we went, but it would not be on the top of my list for must do returns.
By this time it is pouring the rain. As we leave we head over to Impressions De France. Like the china movie, who knows where to look, but it was amazing.
we were standing in the rain, so we decided to just head out for the night. We planned to see Illuminations another night. We would just have to check out England and Canada on another day. That is the beauty of a longer trip, when you know you will be back.
One other note, as we were entering World Showcase, we had picked up three KidCot Perry items. As we went from country to country, we had the cast member stamp and sign the item. We thought this would be a nice and FREE gift we could take back home to our kids. We got a few weird looks, but in most countries, they were happy to work with us.
We made one more stop. There was no line for SpaceShip Earth. We climbed in and ride. This was one of my favorites from our last trip. It is so interesting and I love the animatronics. We did manage to get in a car right behind a group of local college aged punks that talked about how cheesy the ride was all the way though. We did not let it ruin our time, just relaxed and enjoyed the show.
On the way out I remembered our voucher for a FREE picture from Chase. This was one of the longest lines in the park. Plan accordingly if you plan to stop on your way out.
We had stopped by the Epcot Character spot on the was out, as there was no waite. Had fun with each of the characters. A little explination on Goofy. We were haveing them sign a large vinalmation, and he signed on Mickey's but. He wanted to show his as well. Funny stuff.
As we actually walked out of the park and stopped for a Photo Pass in our pancho’s, Illumination got started. We just listened as we strolled out to catch a bus. As always, the ride seemed long, but made the bed feel so nice in the morning.
so nice you didn't let the rain spoil your evening. I'm with you on the meals. I'm just as happy with CS. I feel like everyone on the board eats these incredible meals at WDW and I just don't - not at home not at WDW. I'm just a plain Jane I guess.
More please
All caught up again! First, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who finds DHS confusing. I confused my husband in 2010 because I kept referring to MGM and he finally stopped me and asked where the 5th park was that I kept referring to.
Sounds like you have had a nice time so far - your wife's smile is just adorable Love the honest review of the meals. We thought about Cali Grill in 2010 because my parents would have stayed with the kids, but in the end, my husband felt the menu was "too fofoo" for him.
Love your writing style and can't wait to read more!

We never did. Just trucked on and typically just did somethign indie. I think if anything, it caused us to do things we mignt not have done, like lots of character pictures -- which in the end we loved doing.

I can only imagine how much you must be missing your kids. DH and I were only there for four days and on the day we were to leave we were actually excited to be getting on the ME bus to the airport. Don't get me wrong, we had an amazing trip but we couldn't wait to get home to our kids.
