Fastpass+ Limit [able to choose additional headliner attractions once in park?] - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Fastpass+ Limit [able to choose additional headliner attractions once in park?]
Ok so we all know by now that the current implementation of Fastpass+ is only letting you get 3 FP per day per park. And now the Fastpass+ selections at Epcot (and DHS I think) are also limiting it to 1 headliner and 2 non-headliner attractions. At Epcot I made my selections and found that I don't think I need Fastpasses for the non-headliners. I've never waited more than 5 min for Nemo why the heck would I need a Fastpass??
Do you think (or even better do you know) if on the day of will you be able to get more headliner Fastpasses? I would think that it would make sense if they have those limits for scheduling ahead of time as not everyone is a crazy planner person and if all the fastpasses were gone before the actual day you go to the park people will not be happy. But I'm also not happy with a 3 attraction limit. Especially since I can only pick 1 headliner. If I can change it at the park (provided they aren't all gone of course) it would be closer to the old system while still limiting it a bit as well (only 3 per day).
The closer it gets to my trip the more I'm dreading the new system. I get that they say a lot of Fastpasses weren't used, but that isn't my problem. I used mine! Or if I didn't I at least passed them along.
I had the same feelings. I'm travelling in January, so I'll wait to make comments on the new system until after I've tried it. It certainly limits your flexibility, which is a little concerning.
I have to be honest, I used the Fastpass system all the time and very rarely did a Fastpass go to waste with me. With the new system, we only used about one out of our three each day, which I felt was a complete waste. I really would've liked to have changed things on the day, but I just didn't know enough about how the system worked and how to do it at the park. In fact, I still keep learning from other people's trip reports. I find the new system very restrictive and feel it puts you at a worse position than under the old system.
Since we don't travel until May, we haven't given it much thought. I figure we will wait and see how it all turns out come May. Not worth stressing over, since this trip is going to be done at a relaxed pace. I am interested in sering how it all evolves though... Who's to say it won't change again?
If you mean adding another headliner to your fastpass+ once you are at the park than no my sister (she made selections after the tiers) was not able to during our visit last week. We could change ours because we had done ours before they had tiers. We were still able to use our key cards to get regular fast passes. We did this only a few times during our 11 days, but they did work.
Having the app on our smart phone helped a lot. We could change times to fit when our plans changed. We did have an issue at AK were they said we didn't have a fast pass when we scanned our band, lucky I had a screen shot of it so they entered it into the system.
Count me in as another that feels like the new system is going to be very limiting.
We have been several times and had become quite good at maximizing fast passes and minimizing wait times using many fastpasses over the course of a park day (almost always park open to park close). Only having access to 3 fastpasses per day and limiting it to one headliners is really going to slow our progress and we are not likely to get near as much done.
I think it might be of use to families that don't make rope drop and/or tour leisurely, but I can't foresee that it will benefit my commando family at all.
Still crossing my fingers for new and better updates before our April trip.
It's almost like you are being punished for staying on property. It was supposed to be a perk, not a punishment. I prefer getting my FastPasses when I want them. The old system worked well for me. And, yes, we did the parks commando style. I can only hope the system is adjusted by the time I go on next trip, which is probably going to be 2015 at this point.
I don't know anyone who's said yay, we only get 1 headliner we are going in January, and count me as another unhappy person with this new system. I sincerely hope Disney discontinues this tiered system, and limit. It isn't enhancing our park experience. Quite the opposite.
I think it would be a good idea to let Disney know how you feel. I did. Maybe if they hear from enough guests they will rethink.
I emailed Disney and voiced my concerns. They also had me take a survey last time I was on the website and I voiced my concerns there as well. I read an interesting article that basically justifies the system for Disney and they will likely make money off the implementation. Of course if people are unhappy they don't tend to spend as much. I for one am not looking forward to the long lines for attractions I can't get a FP for. 1 & 3 year olds don't do well with lines longer than about 20 minutes and without the ability to FP more than 3 rides we'll likely skip a lot of our favorite attractions. I guess I'll see what happens, but I'm really hoping that the 3 FP limit doesn't make regular lines longer.
I don't understand how that will make more $ for them. And if people don't have a good experience they won't be back. It's too expensive a vacation to not have a satisfactory experience. People will vote by choosing other parks. It may affect their bottom line. They don't want unhappy guests. I wouldn't think?
I thought MBs and booking FPs ahead was ok. But this tiered thing has to go.
I for one do not like the choose one headliner. Luckily it didn't apply to us for our trip. It reminds me of the ticket system when Disney World first opened. There were A tickets, and B tickets I believe. Does anyone remember that?

Yep, I mentioned this in a thread somewhere. It does remind me of that. When I was a kid we visited the parks with the ticket booklets. You had a certain amount of each kind of ticket and you had to pick and choose which attractions you would do. You could not do everything unless you spent money on more tickets (my parents could/would not do).
At least now you have the opportunity to do everything by standing in line. With the older method, once your tickets were gone, no more attractions for you.
I remember it too! E tickets were the best. Everything was tiered. I sure don't want to go back to that!!! You're right, seems like we're going backwards.
If you plan ahead and get a fast pass for say, Test Track, then get there and use it, can you get another regular fast pass for the same day? Test Track and Soaring (both in the same grouping!) are always completely out of fast passes by mid-morning, so I can see planning 2 months ahead could help you, but we've always gotten multiple fast passes throughout the day.
And another question....my DD and I don't do some of the rides that DH and DS do, so can we get fast pass + and let them use them?
And what happens when you get a FP+ before you leave and the day you have it for the ride is down?
I do like to plan but I also enjoy a little spontaneity!
