Kidani at AKL Anything i should know a first time staying here ?? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We've only stayed at Kidani once, as we prefer Jambo, but one thing I would say is that if you end up at the end of the resort, the furthest from the lobby, it is a very long walk. I discovered that on the resort opening night when I went to see the rooms that fellow PassPorters had and I couldn't believe the hike to get there. If that's something that might bother you, it might be worth asking to see if you can get a room nearer the lobby. If you have a car, it will less of an issue, as there's parking underneath the resort and you can usually park fairly close to your room - at least that was our experience when we stayed there.
We've stayed at Kidani once as we, too, prefer Jambo, but when we were there, we definitely thought it was beautiful. It's a lot quieter than Jambo and, like Cheryl mentioned, it's actually a pretty nice resort if you have a car as you can park under the resort itself near the elevators that would be near your room.
However, being that there is no QS at the resort itself, you need to go to Jambo for The Mara, this can be a hike if you like breakfast, etc.
Otherwise, it was a lovely, peaceful resort, but, like I mentioned, DH and I like the hustle and bustle of the lobby at Jambo, especially when we're able to then retreat to the quiet of our room when needed.
Enjoy the savannah view! Nothing is cooler than waking up to a giraffe outside your room!
"Magical" varies but here's what we learned from our first time there last month...some of these are just becoming comfortable with being there.
1) Smoking areas - there's only two, both on the garage level with one near the pool and the other below the bus stop to the parks; take an elevator to each.
2) Pools - Kidani has the water playground and two hot tubs, Jambo House has the better pool IMHO with a few more hot tubs. The Flamingo pool is also right next door to Jambo's pool (staying at either resort you have access to both).
3) Go Native (drinkwise) - pick up the Joffrey's coffee (Kenyan) in the shop and put the coffee maker on 'strong'. It's excellent for the mornings on the balcony. The shops also sell African wines at a price that's pretty reasonable for Disney. If there's a Moscato drinker in the group and you're at Sanaa...get the nouveau blanc; they don't have moscato and the reisling isn't even close.
4) Pictures - grab them when you can. Baby Zebra and baby Giraffe pics are priceless and really ANY pics from there are great. The common balcony areas seem to be unlocked 24x7 so you can get out to any area after dark and grab nighttime shots as well.
5) Visit Jambo - It's impressive and makes for some great pictures in it's own right. The Lobby is HUGE. The gift store there is also one of the largest.
I would suggest if you have a car, to ask to be on the side that has the pool. We found this to very inconvenient to walk a long distance in wet swim suites. Hot as can be outside, but in the AC,brrr. But if you are in need of the bus stop I would as to be close to the lobby. Yes, the hallways can be a pain. I am all for rental cars when, it comes to this resort!
Thank You Everyone I so appricate this First
1. I will have a car
2. due to my age and things always breaking down before my trips some of you know what i mean . I did request near an elevator ?
and it would be amazing to open the curtains and see animals ?
Jambo house if it is the main building it is amazing .
????? do they still do the morning safari for people staying at AKL ????

Glad to hear you have a car its, very nice to have you car waiting for you in the shade under the building. I would request near elevator, or near lobby if that is important to you. Elevator would be more appealing IMO. Yes, it is nice to pull open the curtains and see everything. However, there is not always animals right beside you/ in front of you. I don't believe they offer a morning safari for Kadani village. I thought it was only available for guest at Jambo house concierge??
I'll be staying at Kidani for the first time in April, so signing in to keep track of suggestions We won't have a car so I'm trying to mentally prepare for having to get a bus to Jambo for QS

We love Kidani and have stayed there a few times. We prefer it to Jambo - it is a more relaxed atmosphere. The pool is great. They have a nice lounge / library area with a nice fireplace. The Community Hall is our fave out of any DVC property. Sanaa is a must-do - we enjoy it for lunch. You will love it Jeff! Have a Magical time!

We've always stayed Jambo, up until this past October. We didn't visit the parks and there was lots to do at the resort, especially for kids. Hope you enjoy your stay!

You don't need to take one of the busses.
They have been running a dedicated Econoline van between the Jambo and Kidani that picks you up at the entrance to each lobby.
