/Cruising on a Dream Full of Frights and Friends: 10/12/13-10/19/13 TR completed 4/21/2014 - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Glad the waitlists came through! What a great deal on the car, and perfect timing, too. I hope the drive down goes smoothly. I agree that it's better to arrive the night before the cruise. At the very least, it eases the anxiety levels, and you'll board the ship feeling rested.
I definitely feel a lot better about the drive now that we're staying over the night. I won't feel so rushed or worried.

What an awesome deal on that new car!! I hope that everything goes smoothly with the drive down to FL.
So do I! Now that we'll be driving during the day, all I can envision is Hope talking our ears off for the entire trip, and I wouldn't put it past her because that girl can do some talking!

It does seem perfect for a nice car ride, all though I'm really not looking forward to being stuck in it that long.

I feel like I'm tired ALL the time, and I could just imagine what I would be feeling like on our first cruise day. Kelly and her family would think they were hanging out with a bunch of party poopers.

Hey there! Thanks for joining in. Haven't seen any of your great TR's in a while, but now I just noticed you have a new TR in your signature. Guess I'm going to have to jump in there too.

Great deal although.... don't you think the $900 airfare would have been cheaper? Just sayin'.
Well, it would have been $900 for the airfare and then the price of the car too. There's was no way I was going to be able to push my car for that much longer anyway, so this trip just made the decision to make the purchase a bit easier.

Definitely don't want to get to the port late. We want the boat to be there when we arrive, not the opposite way around.

congrats on the car. Normally I would be very nervous getting a car that had had damage to it. But knowing it comes from family and they are trustworthy...I'd say you got a great deal
I wanted to get in one more update before the weekend started, but the day somehow got away from me, so it’s turned into a mini-update. Since this update has to be short and sweet, I thought it would be the perfect time to discuss one of the most important themes of this trip…Halloween!
I’m not a Halloween person. I know there are people out there that look forward to this holiday all year long, not just for the tons and tons of candy they get for free, but for the chance to dress up in over-the-top costumes and morph into some crazy character that is the complete opposite of their personality. Yeah, it’s not for me. BUT, I do enjoy dressing up every once-in-a-while if the situation calls for it.
The last time I dressed up for Halloween was right after Hope was born, and we were invited to a huge Halloween party for a friend. I couldn’t pass up the chance to dress Hope up in something super cute for her first Halloween, and because there were going to be costume contests, I decided to get all of us involved. Hope and I were bugs (a ladybug and a bumble bee), and Chad was a bug collector. We ended up actually winning the prize for best group costume. Yay us!
Because DCL decided to add their Halloween on the High Seas celebration to our cruise, I figured it would once again be a good time to dress up as a family. I wanted to do something simple with a Disney theme, and try to use a costume that Hope already had on hand. So after a lot of thinking, we chose Peter Pan, Wendy and Tinkerbell. It ended up being an even better decision than I had originally thought because 1) Kelly and her family were doing Hook, Smee, Jake and Cubby, and 2) Dawn (dsteiny23) was letting me borrow her Peter Pan and Wendy costumes so I wouldn’t have to try and make them. That would have been an epic fail!
And because we’re dressing up for Halloween on the cruise, we decided to forgo costumes for MNSSHP, and just do Halloween shirts. We went through a custom t-shirt site this time, thanks to a suggestion from Linny, and came up with these…
So that’s what we have in store to help celebrate Halloween on our vacation. Hopefully it doesn’t get too scary out there in the middle of the ocean!

I'm not into Halloween much myself, either, but I do enjoy others' excitement. Your group insect costumes are wonderful and Hope is the cutest ladybug ever! Can't wait to see both families all dressed in Neverland-themed outfits on the ship. This is going to be such a fun vacation.
The shirts really did come out great and hopefully you can get more use out of them like we have with ours.
I think I told yo gals before that on our 4 night Dream cruise we were sailing around a storm, it was never bad, which was a good thing, but I felt more movement than normal. Staying outside was helpful.
