Goin' Down the Bayou ~ The TR (November 1-10, 2012) - Page 24 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I was really not expecting them to close down BB. I'll admit, it was chilly this morning, but it never crossed my mind that they would close!

Love the motion photo at the Arcade. Very nice to hit it during free play time.
We sure were lucky hitting the arcade at the right time to get free play, those games are expensive! I love that shot too, I think Abby was stealing the balls from Kaeli's game because hers weren't coming out fast enough

I'm just glad the power went out after we had eaten, it seemed like chaos in RM at the registers.

It was so strange, it was a clear and sunny day, no storms around anywhere at all. I have no idea what caused both resorts to lose power. I wonder if other resorts in the area had problems
at your comment about "drowning worms"! But you're right, we got some good memories!

The fishing did look fun, plus I think spending days around the resort are always cool. I do love POR and when we walked around FQ too I loved that as well.
I can just picture some wacky woman walking into the ocean with handfuls of hotdogs, that must have been a funny sight! I guess it works though, maybe Disney should use hot dogs for bait because the worms sure don't catch a thing
I liked both resorts too, even though they are so different. Both are very peaceful.

Except the power outage! That had to be scary for the girls after what they just went thru back home........hope it doesn't last long.
I was just glad that it happened during the daytime, so we weren't in complete darkness. I'm sure that would have been real scary for them!

It turned out to be a really great day, minus the power outage. Of all the things to happen after I promised them at home that we'd have no problems with the power at Disney
What a string of bad luck - BB closed and now the power outage. Does sound like you made the best of it. Does the arcade offer free play every day? My son always wants to go into the arcades it would be cool to know that there is free play at times. I hope to stay at POFQ on my next trip and spend a day at the resort so I'm loving this update. I too think the pool is creepy. Not as bad as the clown pool at Boardwalk but this one looks like the dragon/serpent is vomiting out the riders.

All caught up...sounds like you still had a great day just "winging it" despite BB being closed. Can't wait to hear more!
Sometimes the days spent "winging it" in Disney are the best, it makes you slow down and take everything in

In the end, I was secretly happy that we didn't get to do BB that day, it gave us good reason to just slow down and take in the fun at POR/POFQ
I'm not sure about the arcade offering free play on a daily basis , there were no signs advertising it in the arcade, and I think the woman who let us know about it just found it accidentally too. It would be nice of them to do once and a while, you could easily spend a small fortune with a couple of kids in the arcade! We thought the coupon we got with our package for "100 arcade points" would get a good amount of games, but really, that was enough for only one game each for the girls
I'll have a few more pics of POFQ in my next update for you, we spent a couple of hours there
Since using the pool at POFQ was out of the question, we ended up just strolling the resort for a bit. I thought that the cobblestone “streets” were really cute, and the layout of the resort was nice too. It definitely had a more intimate feel to it, where POR is more spread out. I can’t put my finger on it, but while I thought POFQ was nice, there’s just something about POR that makes it my favorite of the two.
The girls had some fun playing on the playground, and afterwards we headed off to check out the lobby and food court area, hoping that the power would be back on soon.
With perfect timing, as we opened the door to the food court, the lights turned on. We had one thing on our minds here, to try some of those famous beignets, so I went over to the counter to see if they were peanut allergy friendly, and the woman got a little snippy with me. She wasn’t paying attention to what I was saying, : and as soon as she heard the word beignets she just blurted out that they had none ready and it would be a while before the fryer was up and running. That’s fine, and I understand it, but I wasn’t trying to order them, I just wanted to check the ingredients before wasting my time waiting for the fryer, only to find out Kaeli couldn’t have them. Finally understanding that, she went to get a chef and he let us know that they were perfectly safe. We didn’t have to wait long, and within a couple of minutes we were taking our fresh and hot beignets over to a table in the seating area, far away from this guy because he “creeped” Kaeli out.
Mmmmm. We enjoyed our treat very much, they were hot and tasty, but oh so messy!! Don’t wear any dark colors if you’re going to try them, you’ll be covered in white powder all day. Oh, and try not to take a deep breath as you're about to bite them, like Kaeli did, or you’ll start choking all over the place.
At this point, we decided to head back to POR for some pool time, so we cleaned up and walked over towards the boat dock. However, the ferry wasn’t running due to high winds, so we walked along the river back to POR. It was a lovely stroll, and didn’t take us more than 10 minutes to get to the main building, where we filled our mugs before heading over to the pool for the afternoon party.
Now, the other day we were at the pool, some of the CMs were in the water with the kids playing games, but not this time. : They were all standing on the edge, most of them dressed in their pants and long sleeves, some even wearing parkas. Those Floridians sure do have some thin blood, it was nearly 70 degrees outside. It was windy out, so I guess it did feel cooler than that, but still not that cold!
The girls had a blast in the pool, playing a few rounds of freeze dance and Mickey Pluto (Disney’s version of Marco Polo ), while Chris and I watched them from some lounge chairs. I caught up on my notes and soaked in the sun, at one point getting a weather alert on my phone that some snow was expected at home today , thank goodness we were missing that!
After a couple of hours at the pool we headed back to the room to get showered and changed for our dinner at the Cape May Café tonight. We found this little treat waiting for us back in the room
Perfect timing with the lights going on just in time for the food court! There is just no way to eat those beignets without ending up dusted with sugar. The towel creations keep getting more creative. Love that one!
