Goin' Down the Bayou ~ The TR (November 1-10, 2012) - Page 11 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sounds like a nice evening albeit that woman. I have never sat and watched a parade till this last trip and we watched the Christmas Parade at MVMCP. I loved it!! Inspires me to watch some other parades too.
Glad you managed to enjoy the parade in spite of the childish lady. I don't really like MSEP; I prefer Spectromagic, but I can't imagine watching the whole time and complaining rather than finding something else somewhere else to do.
Your TR from last year was one of the ones that had me drooling over the Penne Vodka, and I think another might have been Princess Sharon's. It wasn't terrible and I didn't hate it, I think the actual dish just couldn't live up to the thoughts I had about it going in I still don't know how we missed seeing you guys at MM, we had to have been leaving just as you were being seated
Now I really feel guilty I do agree that the Italian around here is better.
Love the interaction with the characters in the parade...not so much the interaction with the bratty "adult", and I use that term, loosely. Seriously!

I just found your TR and I am really enjoying reading along! It looks like you all are having so much fun!! I noticed that your DD had on a Furman shirt. We live 45 min away from the univ and just wondered if you or your DH went there??
That is a fantastic spot to watch the parade............well except for the bratty woman behind you What a shame.
can't wait to hear about your breakfast!!!
I ignored her the best I could, we were just having so much fun and I wasn't about to let her whiny attitude ruin that for us!

Thanks, Marnie! I felt bad for that woman's family, I would not have wanted to deal with all of her complaining the rest of that night

Seriously, I couldn't believe how crabby she was! I mean, just leave if you don't like it, we don't want to hear you complain. We had a great night, despite that crazy lady

My thoughts exactly, Holly! If you don't like it, don't watch or keep your lips zipped!

My impression was that maybe someone in her group wanted to watch the parade, but she didn't, and she was letting us all know that. Definitely not the behavior you'd expect from an adult.

Can't wait to hear all about your day tomorrow!
I hope you get to see some more parades, there are some good ones! Though, none that will compare to the one at MVMCP or MNSSHP, those are some really fun parades (and long!).

I've never seen Spectromagic, so I can't compare it to MSEP. I'm sure I'd like it, but I just love the memories I have attached to MSEP I was thinking the same thing about that lady, just leave if you don't like it. There are so many other things that you could be doing right now instead of complaining!

Oh, stop, don't feel guilty!!
We've seen a lot of meltdowns at Disney, and it always seems that the worst ones are had by adults, not the kids. I felt bad for her family, I would not have wanted to deal with that attitude all night!

Thanks for joining in! It's funny that you mention my DDs sweatshirt, when we were checking in to POR the family behind us noticed it and asked us if we lived close by or went to that school, they were not too far from it. I had to laugh, because I honestly had no idea where the school was, nor had I ever heard of it before we got that shirt We actually got that shirt from one of my Mom's coworkers, she had bought it for someone else, but for whatever reason never gave it to them. She knew that my mom had a granddaughter who was the right size for it, and she gave it to us
Adding that viewing spot to my notes for future trips! I would have had a hard time holding my tongue around that woman...grrr...some people! Glad you had a nice visit with your friends though!

MSEP will always hold a special place in my heart since that is the original parade, but there are some parts of Spectro that I miss too. It's weird, because with the current MSEP, sometimes you see certain floats, and sometimes you don't. Like in May Pete and Elliott were in it, but this past November they weren't. Weird.
Glad you enjoyed the parade even with that woman complaining behind ya. Can't wait to read more
More coming right up!

It was a great spot, I think I'll try to watch from there from now on! I'm glad my friend was there, it was easier to ignore that crazy lady. We just rolled our eyes at each other and laughed!

So strange! We saw Pete and Elliott in our parade, I would have been sad if we didn't, I used to love Pete's Dragon!!

Today was another early day, and this time I was up well before the alarm, wide awake at 5:30 am. I’m not sure if I was just worried about missing our early ADR or what, but I didn’t get a good night’s sleep at all. In spite of that, I was feeling good and hoped that I wouldn’t crash later on. We all got showered and dressed pretty quickly, we made it out the door by 7 am and headed to the bus stop. Our luck with the busses would continue today, we didn’t wait more than 5 minutes for a MK bus to come along and soon enough we were making our way towards the turnstiles.
Breakfast today was at CRT, one of Kaeli’s requests, and I had made the earliest reservation I could in hopes of walking up an empty Main Street. Well, that was before Disney decided to change the park hours and open the MK at 8 am nearly every day this week for FL previews. Our ADR was for 8:05, which was technically after park opening, so I wasn’t sure if they would still be letting guests in early. We decided to just check over at the Special Event entrance, and all they had to hear was ADR to let us on through. I did think it was odd that they didn’t check a list or ask for our confirmation #, but I wasn’t complaining!
It was so peaceful just walking along without many other people, we took our time just taking things in. We stopped for a few pictures along the way, and spent a good amount of time looking at the partner statue and the smaller character busts that are in the hub. I never realized how many of the smaller statues there were, usually there are tons of people in that area so I never noticed them.
Another perk of being there this early, was that we got to walk thru the castle to get to CRT. This was the first time the girls were able to do that and they just loved looking at all of the Cinderella mosaics. I’m not sure what time it was at this point, but we were still very early for our ADR, we were the second family in line after checking in. We were brought in and got to meet with Cinderella before making our way up to the restaurant.
The family in front of us made a pit stop at the restroom, so we were the first family to be seated for the day. Wow! It was like we were being brought in for our own private meal, it was really cool to see the restaurant just completely empty and quiet. Our table was all the way to the left of the dining room, right against the windows. We had a lovely view of the carousel and Beast's Castle.
We had a bit of a wait to speak to the chef, but we didn’t mind, we were enjoying our juice and coffee. Once we got the ok from the chef , we placed our orders. Chris decided to go with the steak and eggs (which was a frittata of some sort) and I had the cream cheese stuffed french toast. Yum!
Now, I’m not normally a fan of sweet breakfast items like pancakes or french toast. Don’t get me wrong, I like them, but my first choice is usually a savory dish. BUT, I loved this french toast! They really shouldn’t call it french toast though, because it is more like a bread pudding, not the typical sliced toast you would get at a diner or other breakfast joint. It had a gooey cream cheese center and was topped with a chocolate ganache, oh my, was it delicious. Chris enjoyed his meal as well, we ended up sharing some, and the steak was so good. Perfectly cooked and very tender. The girls both enjoyed their kid’s plates of eggs and french toast sticks, I’m pretty sure both of them got seconds on the sticks.
Thoroughly full, we rolled ourselves out of there and headed off to Frontierland to tackle some mountains, but not before stopping for some pictures along the way
Your meal looks lovely! What a fun start to your day! I didn't know Brer Rabbit was one of the statues. My husband is going to flip! That's his favorite.
