Goin' Down the Bayou ~ The TR (November 1-10, 2012) - Page 9 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

It was great to get so much done that morning! DH was complaining at first about some of our really early mornings, but he quickly changed his tune after he saw how much we got accomplished!
Whew, I'm just getting caught up -- amazing how a little illness + holidays sucks up time for reading TRs!
Your first day at MK sounds wonderful! I loved the photos of the new Dumbo queue. I can't wait to see it for myself! We've never had dinner at CM's. We've only ever eaten breakfast there. Not sure why, but that's how we've always done it! Looks like everyone had a great time with the Fab 5.
At DHS, I love the pictures of the girls in front of ToT. I'm dying laughing at Kaeli's reaction to the ride, because our boys reacted similarly. They didn't freak out during the ride, but afterwards, they swore up and down they'd never, ever, ever ride it again. I'll let you in on a little secret: they've ridden a few times since then!
Catching up here
I love the Murphy bed!! When we stayed there about 12 years ago there were trundle beds, the Murphy bed is way cooler
That's nice that the girls didn't want to wear the buttons, but, you were close enough to your birthday to wear a pin
We really wanted to see Merida this trio (and by "we" I mean me and Jason ) but every time we went by the line was crazy!
Craig looks for chocolate dessert before he even decides what he's going to have for dinner . And I'm with you, breakfast is better for buffets than dinner.
Cool credits for flights
All caught up!! Yay!! We got to the good part
We had so much fun meeting the girls and Chris too! And it was fun to take Kaeli and Jason on their first RnRC ride together.
The girls are so photogenic and you got some really good photo pass pics too!
I'm thinking I may have to take Chris on at TSMM if we're there next year together

Thank you so much! We've had a great time so far I'm hoping that Kaeli will get back on ToT, I know she will have so much fun with it now that she knows what to expect from it!

Jason would have loved Merida! She is just so fun and interacts great with the kids, I'm sorry you missed her. We really lucked out with the line, any other time we passed her it was just insanity!

Yes, the good part Kaeli had so much fun on RnRC, and thanks to you telling her where the cameras were we got a great shot of her on her first ride!
I'm thinking you'll need to kick Chris' butt on TSMM too next time, just to bring his head down to size Speaking of, we've decided on when and where our trip will be this year, have you? DL is out, and we're going to skip November in favor of August this time around, I just hope the heat won't be too much!

We are leaning toward end of August as well, unless our schools wait until Sept. 9th to start like Woodbridge. Then we'll go that week before school. Rosh Hashana is the Wed and Thurs of Labor day week so I'm hoping they'll have that whole week off

That would be awesome! I wonder if our district will do that too. Hmmm, I need to go find out!
We were about 30 minutes early for our noon ADR at Mama Melrose, but there were quite a few people waiting at the hostess station, so I decided to see if we could check in early. The hostess told us it was not a problem, but we would not be able to be seated until noon, when the restaurant officially opened up. Pager in hand, we headed out to do a little browsing in the shops nearby while we waited.
We stopped for a couple of photo ops in between shops
Soon enough, our pager was going off and we were one of the first families seated for the day. The girls both ordered salad with their meals, Abby had the cheese pizza and Kaeli went with the chicken parm.
While it was really plenty for her, Kaeli’s chicken looked like such a puny portion on that big Mickey plate. Both girls enjoyed their choices, I think they cleaned their plates!
Chris went with some sort of seafood pasta, it came with scallops, mussels and scungilli. He was in heaven with this one, he just love, love, loves seafood.
Now, here’s what didn’t live up to the hype. I decided to go with the Penne Vodka with grilled chicken. I had seen and heard about this in so many other TRs, and it had always gotten rave reviews, so I was really looking forward to it. When it finally came, it was just eh. Nothing that blew my mind like I was expecting.
I was hungry, so I ate it without complaint. I do have to say though, in the restaurant's defense, they do give you really big portions here. I felt like I was eating and eating, but my bowl never really looked like I put a dent in it! I liked the ambiance of MMs, and everyone else was happy with what they ordered, so I won’t let a less than stellar meal for myself keep me away. I’d definitely give it another try, though I’m sure I’ll order something different next time.
For dessert, Abby was drooling over the spaghetti and meatball cupcake. That thing was huge, and of course she loved it!
The cupcake was off limits for Kaeli because of her allergy, so I think she got an ice cream sundae. Chris and I split the amaretti cheesecake and got another to go since we were just to full to enjoy a full one on our own. These were really good! So good that we apparently dug in and finished the whole thing before getting a picture.
We were all feeling tired at this point, so we decided to make our way out of the park and head back to POR for some pool time. We had no wait for a bus, and I think it was a little before 2 when we got back to our room. After a quick change into our suits, we made our way over to the main pool. It was a little crowded, but we found a couple of empty chairs near the hot tub.
Chris took the girls over to the water slide, which they loved, while I plopped my butt down on a lounge chair and just relaxed with a Mango Rita. Aahhh, vacation.
I finished up my drink and joined Chris and the girls in the pool, they were having a ball with the pool party and games that the CMs were running. After a dance party and a few rounds of Duck Duck Donald, it was about 4 pm, so we headed back to the room to shower and change before dinner.
Mama Melrose will be a new one for us this trip. I'm looking forward to trying it. I was eyeing the same pasta you had. I may try something else. Your afternoon at POR looks lovely and right up my alley! I'm looking forward to doing exactly what you did. Chillin' by the pool! Cold drink in my hand! Kids playing to the heart's content.
