There’ll Be a Smile Where a Frown Used to Be - PTR - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

for Matthew being able to join you! I think it's terrific that you and your son talk all the time! I hope my son and I talk a lot when he leaves the nest MANY years from now

For Eric's sake I do hope that Matthew can join you, but I'd be having an anxiety attack with the changes as well! I agree with the phone CM that changing from a 3 person to 4-person or from 4 to 3 shouldn't be a big deal at most places since it would be a 4-top either way. I'm sure it'll all work out, but I know you'll be happier when you can pin it all down-- in other words, when you're already there!

Congrats on getting all your changes made. Here's hoping Mathew can make it. I believe it speaks volumes to you and your husband that he wants to spend time with both of you and his cousin Thank him for the service he has given and is about to give
It's great that the CMs can be so helpful and accommodating because I'm sure a lot of people have plans that aren't 100% solid. Last time that we went, DBF's brother said he might come to dinner one day. Ummm.....no way. I really don't like his brother. If he ever came over for a visit, not only would I not allow him to stay in the house alone, but I'd go stay with my father for a few days. We make our dining reservations right at the 180 day mark, they're already set and confirmed, and people just can't add themselves on! It turned out he never called or came anyway, but still the concept gave me a mini-panic attack.
Good luck getting everything situated - and I do hope that Matthew is able to join you, too. It'll be a little stressful adding him into the plans but you'll all have a great time!

Sorry that things didn't work out for your girls. But it sounds like they have been to camp before so I am sure they'll do fine. Mine don't know they are going next week as we have a wedding in NY next week
Hope your girls didn't miss you guys too much! Poor babies.

It seems that no matter how hard I try to make things difficult, they do manage to fall into place. I need to just go with the flow....

I'm kind of a stress monster anyway, even with little things. I need to be more like my husband - he's just happy no matter what. Maybe it's cuz he's not the one doing the planning? Hmmmm.....

Oh you've hit the nail right on the head! That's the best part of actually being there - it's too late to change anything and you have no choice but to let it go. I do like that feeling.....

I am grateful that we have a good relationship. We always say that we're Siamese Twins joined at the heart.

I know it must be hard as a mother to see him go back in the military, but it sounds like he has thought about it for a while. I hope it works out the way he wants it to. Some of our military buddies got out with us and went back in a few years later and really loved it the second time around. Maybe you can't appreciate it as much until you are out for a while? Please tell him thank you for his service.
Here's a little pixie dust ..... .... hoping you don't have any more changes (or at least not too many more)!!
Rachel
Thank you for your comments and the pixies. While I don't really understand his motivation, I am proud of him, just as I am of all the women and men who serve and have served.
Just a quick update while I elevate my legs and ice my knees…..
A few weeks ago, I decided to take up running again. I started with the Couch to 5K program because I did it before and really liked it. I already walk my dogs about 5 miles a day 5 or 6 days a week, but I really like running and I miss it.
My husband does not like running at all. He’s a good sport, so he did the first few weeks while I was doing some easy jogging, but as I started running longer distances I could see that he wasn’t having any fun. So, I told him I’d do my running days on my own and we’d still walk the girls together on my ‘off’ days.
One of my dogs is a bit overweight so I thought she’d make a great running companion. Cody has been running with me and she really likes it. She is really great about staying at my side and not getting in front of me.
Anyway, last Saturday morning Cody and I took a run down the hill. We were almost to the end of our run and I tripped. I didn’t just trip. I flew. Literally. When I landed I could not stop my forward momentum and slid a couple of feet. Bouncing on my knees, shoulder and face. My Cody dog was so awesome though. I lost her leash but she came running right back to me and stayed with me while I tried to get up.
Fortunately, I’d arranged for Steve to pick us up so I wouldn’t have to run back up the hill and he arrived a few minutes after my flight.
Today I saw my dentist, who incidentally, is one of my younger sisters. She said I fractured one of my molars. She did not want to x-ray my front teeth because my lip and gums are so swollen that it’s pretty painful just to open my mouth, so we’re going to wait a few days before we do that and before she repairs my broken tooth.
She took a look at my black eye and swollen nose and said, “Are you nuts? You’re nose is broken. Did you go to the doctor?” Um no, I thought it was just bruised…..
Then she looked at my knees. They were bandaged because they have open wounds. She didn’t have to remove the bandages – she just looked at the bruising and the swelling and poked them. “You ARE nuts. You need to see a doctor! You’re knees are full of fluid. Your nose is broken. I’m telling Mom!”
I thanked her, reminded her that she’s not a physician and left her office. My sister didn’t call our Mom, but she did my doctor. On my way home his office called me and told me to come in. NOW. So I did. Yes, my nose is broken. Yes my knees might need to be drained. I have a consult with an orthopedic surgeon tomorrow.
Excuse me…..I have a Disney World vacation that starts in 16 days!!!!
The good news is that the prescription sunglasses I was wearing at the time of my fall are covered by a lens scratch warranty and I won’t have to pay for the lenses to be replaced. That’s really great because the initial quote was $258 !!! So I’m super happy about that.
Now hopefully the ortho won’t re-break my nose and will tell me my knees will be just fine……
When you do something, you really do it!! You poor thing. I hope your nose is ok to heal the way it is and I hope the ortho can drain the fluid NOW so that you have time to heal. Hard to imagine how you managed all that damage just jogging--sounds like you were in a bad car crash. You really must have been flying!
I hope you have a speedy recovery and don't have any more trouble than you need. 2 weeks should be a good recovery time I would think. At least long enough to not have a bandage on your face if you will need one for your nose. Now go put your feet up and rest. No more trying to get healthy for you!! it's bad for your health!!!
Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.
On a lighter note The GIRLS don't go to camp till Friday and they love it there The people that own and run it have younger kids and love to play with my 2 So while they would prefer if Daddy stayed with them they do okay Considering how things might go with some of my family that might not be such a bad idea.
