As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

JFK Assasination Anniversary
Do you remember when this happened? Where you were when you heard the news? Do you believe there was (is) a cover up conspiracy?
I wasn't born but my parents had been married for just a few months and were stationed in Texas at the time - my mom used to talk about it when we were growing up so those are the only memories I have of it.

I wasn't born yet. I've only seen it on TV and read accounts.

Re: JFK Assasination Anniversary
Old lady checking in! I was in Jr. High in library class when the announcement came. I never heard it because there was no loudspeaker in the room. When school got out for the day I was waiting in front for my friend when I heard other students talking about it. Went home and saw tv. My mother said the first announcement came during "As the World Turns" and she didn't think it was serious so when the show ended at 2pm she turned the tv off. Back then ATWT was only a half hour show.
All 3 networks were live. Thank goodness we had NY WPIX. At some point on Fri or Sat night they showed the movie PT 109. That was the movie about JFK in WW2. On Sun we saw Oswald shot live.
Tv came of age during JFK and those 3 days in Nov were something we'd never seen before. Usually the stations signed off after the news at 11.
About a conspiracy/coverup. I don't know but I think it's possible especially with that new book about LBJ.
I don't think JFK would have gotten us so involved in VietNam. DH and I were talking the other day about what if JFK would not have been shot and those 58,000 plus killed in VietNam would not be dead. What kind of men would they have been? Found a cure for a diease? Been in Congress? Kinda makes you wonder.

10 years before my time....but I wish I was living then. Not that I want to experience the horror, but I want to experience the love for a president like the people did back then.

Re: JFK Assasination Anniversary
I was in the third grade. The biggest impact it had on me was that it seemed like the funeral went on for days!!! All of my favorite shows weren't on because of this stupid funeral! Ahhh the selfishness of children!

Re: JFK Assasination Anniversary
I have no idea. I dont know exactly when this happened, but I do remember my daughter asking both my mother and grandmother about where they were. I dont remember where my grandma was, but I do remember that my mom was in grade school.
I guess my grandchildren will be asking me where I was when Reagan got shot. I DO remember that. I was in 5th grade.

Re: JFK Assasination Anniversary
My parents had only been married for 8 months (still in their honeymoon stage ....I wasn't even a thought yet!) and my dad was stationed at the air force base in Jacksonville, AR. I remember stories about how the whole base was affected in such a sad way.

My mom says she was looking for a stroller for me
when it happened and I was only 1 so I don't remember
anything. I don't know about conspiracy theories, I've
heard plenty of them today on the news and on talk radio.

My parents weren't even married when this happened - I don't know if they'd even met by then, but of course there was a cover-up.... wasn't there?

Re: JFK Assasination Anniversary
I was 6 and in the first grade. I remember that there was an announcement in the school and we were let out early and all the Moms were crying in the school yard when we left but I couldn't figure out what had happened.
I watched a documentary about it several years ago, and I'm convinced that there was a major cover-up and conspiricy. The Warren Commission explanation just doesn't make sense when you study pictures of the events.

Re: JFK Assasination Anniversary
I was in college in Waxahachie about 30 miles south of Dallas. One of my good friends was along the parade route.
I do not believe there has been a coverup. I think Lee Harvey Oswald worked alone. There have been so many books, tv shows and movies about this that it is really hard to know what is true and what is fiction.

5th grade. I do not believe there was a cover up. Too many people and hard to keep a secret. Heck, Bill Clinton could not keep Monica a secret and they were the only two people in the Oval Office at the time.

Re: JFK Assasination Anniversary
I was a little over a year old & my Mom had taken me for a walk to the corner store when my Dad came running out of the house screaming for her. SHe returned & they both sat there the rest of the afternoon watching TV in tears & disbelief.
LIttle did my parents know that my Dad would follow in death less than 7 months later. I think my Mom really idenitified with Jackie after that & as she too had 2 young children to raise ( but without the $$$ & nannys etc)
Funny, my daughter was born on Nov 22 (1997) & yesterday she kept asking if that 'guy' died on her birthday.. I tried to explain that No, she was born on the day he died..
as for a cover up.. I think a lot of facts AREN'T public that would shed light on the situation a lot better.. & there are more pieces to the puzzle that we may never know..
Wasn't there a rumor that Jackie was dead 10 years, a report was allowed to be released shedding new info??
