Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Congrats on the free dining and thanks for the Hershey report. I haven't been to the park in years. I love Hershey though. I do have to admit it is expensive but the last few visits I've taken have been giils only spa weekend. Since we split the cost of the room (Hotel Hershey) it isn't too bad. I'm thinking of going this year at Christmas as I'd love to see the lights, just not sure I'm staying overnight.

Somehow our plan to go spend about 3 days in Hershey last year turned into a trip on the Dream. The prices were insane and at that time my kids couldn't even ride half of what was there. I do see a trip there in the future though.
Ya know, I'm not sure if this would be worth it or not for you guys since you weren't spending a whole day at BB, but when we went to TL off season we got a crazy good deal on a cabana for the day that was way cool. Arnaud saw a sign when we got there in the morning and next thing ya know, we had signed up for one.
Congrats on the FD!!!! That's awesome!!

I thought I had replied earlier in your PTR but I guess I didn't and got far behind!

Thanks for the mini TR about Hershey Park. I've never been but have been wanting to visit for a long time! I'm thinking that the next time I head out to Philly, I might bring the kids along and do a side trip to Hershey...it's about a 2 hour drive, right?

Since it might be a once in a lifetime thing for us, or at least a very rare trip, we'll probably have to bite the bullet and splurge on the Hershey Hotel. That's a great tip about being able to go into the park 2 1/2 hours at the end of the prior day...seems like all we would need then is just a one day ticket to see most of everything.

Great plans so far on your WDW trip!

Sounds like a fun trip to Hershey. I have been there before, but have not taken the kids yet. It seems like when we price out a short trip anywhere we are always saying we might as well just go to Disney instead for a bit more. We looked into going to the beach this summer, but decided for the price we could do a short trip to Disney instead. Everything always goes back to Disney!!!

on a good day you can make it out in 1 1/2 hour. all deopends on the center city traffic in Philly. The Hotel Hershey is really nice but they have the Hershey Lodge and several other hotels in the area as well. We always do Hotel Hershey when we go for our spa weekend.

A girls only spa weekend at the Hotel Hershey sounds wonderful! I think we are going to head back for the Christmas lights this year, the girls were reading about it and were very excited about it! We may just make it a day trip too, though.

You know, I was curious about the cabanas, I wondered if they would be cheaper in the off season. I couldn't find any exact pricing when I Googled it though. It might be worth it just to have a home base for the day, perhaps we'll just wait until the day of and book it if the price is right like you guys

Most definitely, I would splurge too if it was going to be a rare trip. The Hotel Hershey is really nice! It is definitely possible to see most of everything with a day ticket, but if you want to spend a lot of time in the Boardwalk (the water park section) I would go with a 2 day ticket at least.

Day 7 - Those are some wierd hours!

On Thursday 11/8, I think we are going to spend part of the morning at DHS. The park calendars are showing their hours for the day as 8am - 4pm, which is very strange. Easywdw.com thinks that the shortened hours have something to do with a CM preview of the Osborne Lights that night (which are rumored to be opening on 11/9), but I don't remember that happening last year Anyway, I think we'll use the morning to hit any attractions we missed on Saturday, we have nothing much planned for the afternoon though. I think I will leave it up to the girls, but we will either head back to the pool at POR or use one of our waterpark and more credits to play some mini golf. We'll be heading back over to Epcot tonight, we have a 6:30 ADR at the Garden Grill with my friend's family tonight GG was one of our favorite meals of last trip so we are super excited to share it with our friends! I think that tonight will be the perfect time to finally catch Illuminations. The girls have never seen it, and I haven't seen it since 2001 What are some of the better viewing spots for the show?

108 days to go!
Charlotte: (to Tiana) Seems like only yesterday we were both little girls wishing our fairy tale dreams. And tonight they're finally coming true!

4pm is a VERY early closing time for DHS!! I guess it must be for cast viewing of the Osborn lights-- nice of them to do that, but I don't recall it happening before, either. For Illuminations, there are lots of good spots. Just think of the lagoon as a square, with the area between the two free-standing gift-shops at the entrance from FW as one flat side. The BEST places are looking from a flat side, rather than a "corner". Then look above you. If you have a clear sight-line with no branches you should be fine. I usually watch from between Norway and Mexico. There's a wheelchair-viewing area there and it's a good spot. If you really want to go into it, you can also check the wind direction and choose a spot where the smoke will blow away from you!
