A Coast to Coast Christmas - Phase One WDW - Page 11 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Too funny that you would think I would like Roasted Chestnuts . . . because I can't eat them at all due to my lovely tree nut allergy so I don't have any idea what a roasted chestnut tastes like--even if you fed me one I still wouldn't know because it would make my tongue go numb!
It looks like you and Karen had a great time at the party, but I'm sorry you missed out on Goofy at the dance partaay.
Love your pictures of the castle. Drizella so wanted some dessert. too funny. I miss twas the night before Christmas show too. I wish they could bring it back. The Parade I always have end up with pictures of the characters backs or they tunr away as I snap a picture. the camera battery is usually stuggling by the time my favorite reindeer appear.
I love the look on the Chestnut CM and Eileen it does look like he is remembering you spitting them out in the pointsettia beds....

everything about this update...such fun!!! I must thank you btw for sharing the Frontierland parade viewing. While watching from Main Street is magical, being at the begining of a parade & able to cut out to do something else rocks!
Great update! The only person I know who loves roasted chestnuts is my MiL...interesting texture, for sure. Dinner at the GF looked lovely, especially Eileen's fancy schmancy gluten free creation. Love the pics from MK; the ones of MM&Y are wonderful....I loved the holiday portion on the castle!

I'm going to break in here and comment on this picture:
Obviously, the CM knows roasted chestnuts are NAS-TAY! I mean, seriously! Look at his face! He's all "you better not spit this out in the flower bed of poinsettias like your friend over their did two years ago."
'Cause... I did. I did spit out the wallpaper paste flavor of NAS-TAY chestnuts in the poinsettias in 2009.
I did.
And you would too if you'd made the mistake of believing Karen's delight in these bits of nastiness.
Ugh...
And, Shashi -- I mentioned writing the "Three to a Bed" report when it was still a secret. And then YOU went and blabbed about it up front, thereby robbing me of the joy of telling the tale and adding in all the supporting PhotoPass pics of our fun. So it's YOUR fault I'm not writing a TR... not *mine.*
So it's my fault? Dangit! Next time I'll wait three or four weeks for you to finally get started on yours before I start mine. By the way, if this is your way of distracting me so I don't notice how short your contributions are lately, it totally worked! I guess you just don't have that much to say. Good thing you're not doing an entire TR of your own.

I've got a Canon S90. I am a Canon fan big time!

Love the pictures of the castle show...I love that show, another makes me cry, also another show I could not get any good pictures of (don't know Sharon, figured I understood that zoom thing on my camera, it just does not like me).
Roasted chestnuts are one of those traditional things like fruitcake. You'll get the occasional oddball that actually likes them. Everyone else just avoids or ignores them! And the best way to get better with your camera is practice. You should take another trip!

I told you, I was asleep! Eileen or Karen will have to fill y'all in. Honestly, I am asleep within seconds of my head hitting the pillow, so I miss out on the in-bed shenanigans.

All the party festivities look great!
You and Karen can have my share! I don't find them as offensive as Eileen does, but I can think of about 6,132 other things that taste better! I'd rather be eating one of those things.

We got a lot done at the party considering we didn't even get there until after 8:00!

Of course you'd be allergic to them! Duh! Well, if you ask me, you aren't missing much!

Drizella was hilarious. We didn't even know she was at our table until we saw her there, staring at the dessert, completely mesmerized. She must've spotted the chef setting it down on the table and came right over. Eileen wouldn't share with her, but considering Eileen can't share food with many people because of her Celiac, I'll give her a pass on that one.

It's also the best place to look for a spot at the last minute.

It's almost as if this CM is scolding her for buying these chestnuts. The look on his face is like, "How dare you want to buy chestnuts from me! You should know better young lady!"
Too funny! It sounds like you guys had a great time at the party, and I have to agree with you about the MM&Y holiday version...very cool indeed!

Hey, Shashi -- you should take my short comments as proof that I **LIKE** your updates. I've found nothing to add because you've summed it up so well. (And that there was no overt lying, not like in some other TRs of yours.)
But... now that you mentioned it... I *DO* have something to add.
The chef at 1900 Park Fare was really great to me. He was rather gruff at first and sort of pointed out things that I couldn't have. "Nope... you can have that (delicious-looking) salad 'cause it has soy sauce in it. Nope... nothing from the carving board either. And the breads and pasta salads are all out."
For a minute there, I thought I'd be spending all that money to slurp down bowl after bowl of strawberry soup! (Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it wouldn't be cost-effective now, would it?!)
We got all the way around the buffet and he suddenly turned to me in a huff.
Chef: Would you like a steak?
Me: with a sigh of relief Oh yes! I'd love one. But just a small one, okay?
Chef: It'll be big. And you'll like it. No arguments!
We had a similar conversation when it came to the gluten free options for dessert. What he built for me was... um... unusual to say the least. On a base made out of the bottom of a pineapple, he stuck alternating layers of gluten-free brownie with scoops of vanilla ice cream through skewers. Then he brought it to the table and poured a pitcher of warm chocolate goo over it all.
That's what attracted Drizella - the drip of chocolate goo down the tower of brownies and ice cream.
Dangit... I made myself drool just thinking about that dessert!
And, because she'll hurt me if I don't, I have to thank Sharon publicly for letting me snag her sparkly UBER-annual pass to get a 20% discount at Basin White. I bought myself a new jar of the Pink Sugar body butter and am loving having this wonder product in my skin care arsenal again.
After we split up and the partiers left for the MVMCP, Jilly and I returned to the WL and went straight up to the Club Lounge. We drank quite a bit of wine -- and even had the CMs coming out with the bottle to refill our glasses a couple of times. We really did have a reputation, it seemed! I couldn't tell you what we talked about, just that we talked for hours, and I fell even more in love with Jill than ever.
For the curious: I have NO idea what shenanigans I got up to when the Christmas partiers returned that night. I'm sure it involved me lifting my curly-headed fright wig off the pillow and mumbling at Karen through my mouth guard. There's nothing as sexy as me slurring "come to bed" through a bit of molded acrylic.
They give them away (and still people refuse)! They don't have the nerve to charge people for those things!

Great Update! Some day I hope to go to the MVMCP, but we did see the Twas the Night Before Christmas show in 2008 the week of Christmas when we were there and totally loved it. Glad my DH has it on video since it is gone now. As for roasted Chestnuts I do have to agree that they are NASTY! Ewww!
More Please!
On a side note: Eileen you should have made something up about the shenanigans, not actually told us the truth! You're a writer, I know you have imagination! We were so expecting something HILARIOUS and all we get is mumblings through a mouth guard. Disappointing.
loving this TR. Hopefully I will make it to WDW for Christmas sometime. But I am sure that it won't be nearly as fun as you four or I should say 6 of you have!
