The Good, The Bad and The Buggy - Nov 2011 TR - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The road trip went well...glad no major traffic or construction. Loved hearing about all the places you stopped and ate. We have none of those places here which is why I used to love traveling by car going upstate or when we used to drive to Ohio...so we could eat at all those places that we never had a chance too (laugh I think the first time I ate Friendly's I was 14 and going upstate with my parents).
The room looks very nice...love that you are able to just alk over to MK, I cry everytime I first step inside. Can't wait to hear about Boma's - one of our favorite places.

Great start! Can't wait to read the rest. Looks like you had a good trip down. I'm from MI too, so I'm familiar with that drive!
We did have an easy trip. Where in MI are you from? We are just south of Detroit so hopping on I75 is easy.

Oh yes - there will be food pics. I got better at remembering farther on into the vacation. I forgot a couple of entrees though. Forgive me - I'm new.

I think it would take me about 4 hours to get to the closest edge of California! When I lived in Philadelphia, I thought it was the greatest thing that I could drive through 3 states in half an hour!
Great start! I am also looking forward to the dining reviews (and hopefully pics!) because the deluxe dining plan sounds so fabulous!!!
Thanks. Yeah the first day was 16 hours of driving. But we split it up and make it fun. The DxDP was a lot of food. But yummy and worth it

I prefer Chick-Fil-A over Zaxby's for some reason. I've got both those restaurants near me.
Great trip report start. I'm looking forward to hearing your report on Boma.
That was the big Duffy we got last year. He went down with us. They don't make the outfits for the big guy. (Now they don't even make the big guy anymore!) So yeah - he's nekked.
We loved both Chik-Fil-A and Zaxby's. Iprefer Zaxby's though. Chuck liked the chicken salad sandwich at Chik-Fil-A. Said it was the best he's had.

I think they put something in it to make it addictive (like crack ). If I lived anywhere nearby - I would be about 400lbs!

Oh I know Cam! I don't think I will ever not cry at the first castle sighting.

P-Sha, you HAVE to try Zaxby's! O.M.G! It is awesome!!!! I think it is only in the south. But it is a must do!

Oh I know. It was a really good drive. And walking to the MK was too cool. It also gave us a lot of transportation options too.
Boma! We went to Boma at 6:30 and didn’t have to wait long for our table. 1st thing was an AFB! I got a “Black Cherry Twist”
Black cherry bourbon, sweet and sour, Sprite and cherries. Yum! Tastes like a Shirley Temple and goes down just as easy. I apologize for the pics (or lack there of). This was my first real meal and I kind of forgot to take a pic of my plate before I started scarfing the yummy food. I know I had roast beef, some squash soup, rice and a bunch of other stuff. Chuck was upset because of their lack of falafel. We also had salad (I love their salad bar) and naturally - Zebra Domes!!!!
This has now become a tradition with us - our first full night is dinner at Boma then go to DTD. We did the same thing last year.
After we were sufficiently stuffed - we needed to walk some of it off so onward to DTD!
We hopped the bus from AKL to DTD. We stopped at Basin (I wanted to get some Dr Spot) But also got some body butter, shampoo soap and conditioner as well. Chuck wanted to look for a Mickey varsity jacket so we checked out Team Mickey. When we walked in - they were playing “Hail to the Victors”! Loved it! We started singing and maybe got one or two stares. Didn’t find the jacket though. If Chuck found something that he may have wanted, he kept saying “We will come back” and “I will think about it”. But if I found something I wanted he would say “Just get it”. Anyhow, we walked all the way across DTD, watched the balloon land. It was a bit windy and it was swaying quite a bit - did not look like fun . We went into a lot of stores and sorry, I didn‘t take better notes, so I don't know exactly what we got that night. I knew we were going to come back to DTD. I wanted Chuck to see it during the day. After a while, we caught the bus back to the CR/BLT.
I entered the room first and there was something sitting on the table in the dark. Hmmm? Flicked on the light to see 1 doz roses with a card that read “Happy Vacation. Love Chuck” It was in a beautiful vase with a special Pixie dusted rose and little Mickey head “gems” hidden in the greenery. Just beautiful. He got me.
I then went to look for ice. I walked the entire 8th floor with the ice bucket under my arm. Nothing. So I went back to the room and called the desk. “Excuse me, where is the ice machine located?” “Well, Ms. Bollman, there are 3 ice machines for your building. One on the 3rd floor, one on the 9th floor and one on the 15th floor” “So you mean the closest ice machine is on the 9th floor?” “Yes, yes it is”. Gee - thanks. Yes - for a 16 story, I don’t even know how many room building there are only 3 ice machines! (I am now keeping track. No Mickey head towel, not enough ice machines). I went up to the 9th floor and got ice and when I came back to the room there was a present sitting on the bed. Hmmm? It was a new camera. (He got me again) He said it was a cheaper camera with video so that I could take it on the WAT in the morning and not worry if it got dropped. It’s still a nice one though. So I opened it and plugged it into the computer to charge (that’s why he was insistent on me bringing my computer). I tried to get the wrist strap on but couldn’t fit it through the tiny little hole on the side. (Keep this in mind for my later WAT post!) After such a busy day, I took a shower and was getting ready for bed when I heard really loud music outside. Chuck asked what it was, so I decided to investigate. I thought maybe it was a party down by the pool or something but no. It was the WATER PARADE!!!!!
We could see it from our balcony! So after the parade - it was lights out. (about 10:30) We had a big day ahead! WAT in the early am!
Ah the life of a star, and the geek she's married to!
We made such good time compared to last year, but still got bogged down in Atlanta.
Driving a little longer to Tifton was OK,the construction at night just puts me on edge.
There's a whole side story about Duffy that Coop will get to,very strange.Got a good nights sleep in Tifton, and we were plenty relaxed when we pulled into BLT.
I don't want to spoil any of Coop's trip report,so I'll wait a bit for more comments.
Just to let you know, between satellite radio, cruise control,a GREAT travel partner, and Duffy,we were off to an AWESOME start!
What a great first day and surprises from you DH. The pics aren't showing other than the one of BLT.
I can't believe there aren't ice machines on EVERY floor, especially at a Deluxe resort.
Great first day! I can't see your pics tho. That Chuck...he's a keeper!
Bummer about the ice machine...very strange!
Sorry you can't see the pics. They are there - I promise. I didn't allow Chuck to post them, so they should be working (LOL).

I can't wait to read more. I am a bit wary about the WAT and the camera you mentioned.
I'm very perplexed that so many people can't see our pics. They are showing up here so I don't know what is going on. I was a bit wary of the WAT too - but just wait for the update!
