Sparky's Gone to the World- A TR 9/13/11-9/20/11 - Page 36 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Up bright and early as usual for me anyhow, this morning. I found that keeping the routine of going to the caf to get DH coffee was working out nicely. By 6:15 I was heading to the caf. I made my usual stop at the smoking area to talk to the 2 nice ladies that were there, what seemed to be, every morning and every night after going to the park. After talking to Kitty (a lady who has a radio talk show about Diabetes) and Lorraine (from the UK) for a while it was time to head back and get the lazy ones out of bed.
This morning was easy though, as we were heading to DH’s ride along at the Richard Petty Drive Experience. We were in the cab and on our way by 8:30.
We arrived and other than a couple that came in behind us, we were the only ones there. Score! DH got suited up for his ride and outside to the track we went. The car and driver was waiting there for him. He got on his helmet and the bar thing for his neck and slid into the car through the window. A quick smile out the window for a picture, a “Bye honey, I love you!!” and he was off. Before I could blink practically, he was back. Boy that is a fast 3 laps when you are going 175!
DH was smiling ear to ear, when he got out of the car. I wish they had taken the picture after the ride. I mean he was smiling before the ride, but after he was beaming I could tell just by his face, that he loved every second of it. Which of course he did…it’s at the top of the list for next trip for him.
Behind us, there was a couple who were suited up to go. The man went first and the woman was saying how her DH wanted to do this and they came for him. Once there however, her DH said “Oh no! We are both doing it!” and so there she was. We decided since the 3 laps are super quick to stick around and see how she liked it. Plus, DH wanted to see what it was like from the outside of the car.
We asked her how she liked it when she got out and she replied, “OMG! That was crazy! It was fun though!” We all made our way inside for the riders to get unsuited and check out the souvies. We ended up getting the plaque with DH’s picture while in the car and the DVD of the ride, which gets mailed to us in 2-3 weeks.
UPDATE TO DVD: We have received the video and it’s great! It shows inside the car as well as outside. DH is smiling ear to ear the whole time. But my favorite part was just before they took off, the driver says “Look right there and say your first and last name and where you’re from.”
DH looks straight into the camera and says “I’m Pat, from MA. This is going to be a rush!” and then gives the thumbs up with both hands. It was so cute, it brought a tear to my ete.
After much thanks, and talking to the driver about what an awesome job he must have, we went out front to wait for the shuttle to MK. The couple who went after my DH yelled over, “You need a ride somewhere?” We told them we were going over to MK, and they said “We’ll drop you off at the T&TC” I ran in to let the people know we didn’t need the shuttle and we piled into the couples minivan. Turns out they were from Canada, and were there visiting with their 3 yr old DD, just about 1 yr old twins, and some friends. They were leaving the next day to head home. During the short ride, the husband was chit chatting to us, and he reminded me so much of one of our friends it was crazy! I almost said to DH “Hey doesn’t he remind you of Donovan?” But I didn’t.
We got to the T&TC, and the CM’s were directing us where to park. Finally, the husband stopped to ask/tell that we were just getting dropped off, they weren’t parking. The woman CM yelled, “FINE! But it’s much easier if you drop them over there!” I mean she yelled, like we were idiots. When the husband rolled his window up, we all got a good laugh out of it. He pulled into a space to let us out, and we thanked them and wished them a safe journey home...it was so nice of them to do that.
They headed off, and we headed toward the ferry/monorail. On the way DH says to me “Hey, didn’t that guy remind you of Donovan really bad!!??” I laughed, and said that I almost asked him that same thing in the car. He really did!
As we approached, I asked DD what she would like to do the ferry or the monorail. She said the ferry, which was great because it was boarding and about to leave. So, we hopped on bound for another day at MK.
UP NEXT: Telling DH that I am choosing and ordering his lunch! He has no choice.LOL

What a nice treat for your DH! I wonder what it feels like to go that fast? Not sure if I'm brave enough to want to find that out.
I don't want to know! I don't understand being afraid of BTMR but more than willing and like even to do this. I have figured out, I think it boils down to human vs. machine. I trust the machine more, while DH trust the human driving the machine. He feels it's safer. Idk, but either way, it was really cool to see how happy he was when he did it!
Just got caught up on your TR. The pictures of your DD are great, I think BBB is on our list for our next trip.
What a fun morning for your DH and how nice of that couple to give you a ride!
Thanks for following along! BBB is worth it. It was so much fun, even DH liked being there! If your little one likes to dress up and be pretty, it's so worth it.
DH had a fantastic morning, and that was nice of that couple. Weird though, as I was writing it, I thought, anywhere else and I would have never accepted a ride from strangers. But it just seemed okay and was practically on their way out.

Glad the RPDE was a success for your DH! Luke was the same way when he did this several years ago and now I'm thinking I may need to book him the experience where he drives himself.

We were talking about that because on the DVD there are "coupons" for money off the driving experience. DH said he isn't interested in taking a class, or being responsible for if the car crashes, instead he would like to do the ride along twice, so he gets 6 laps around instead of 3.
I have finally caught up Miss Sparkly Face! Sorry it has taken me so long...life kept getting in the way. I may have to do the driving experience thing. I would LOVE to feel that rush!

Yay! I am glad your here! I know about life getting in the way, and I also knew when you had a chance you'd be here, no worries! If it sounds good to you, definately give it a try. DH said it was fantastic and such a once in a lifetime (though he will probably do it next time) thing. It was only $120 for the 3 laps, but I got him a ride along card at Xmas last year, that was only $60. So Xmas is the time to get it!

Just caught up! I really got behind. I know there were things that I wanted to comment on when I was reading, but now that I am typing my comment, I can't remember! Crazy, I know! So, I'll just leave it that I am really LOVING your TR and can't wait for more!
