Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

You could die taking the bus too. Go for a scooter. See the places you want! Just be careful.

I may not be much help with your decision as I have a fear of scooters after an incident that involved, me, a scooter and a slide when I was a teenager (don't ask). However, your pro list does make it look tempting -- well for someone that doesn't have a fear of scooters. Good luck with your decision!!

Wow - great start and congrats on securing such a great deal!

I'd go with the scooter, although I'm another one that has a fear of them, so I personally wouldn't do it, but the pro list is pretty long.

The list seems to say yes to the scooter, although the one con, death, may seem to trump all else. I've not been to Bermuda, so can't say whether it would be better to listen to faction a or faction b. Maybe you could use the public transportation option on day 1, anid see if you cream any scooters? If not, scooter days 2 & 3. Do the things on day 1 that are easily accessible by bus & ferry.
Good luck, and be safe!

Looks like the pros outweigh the con(s). You only live once, right? Just be uber-cautious on your uber-last minute trip and you'll be fine. (couldn't resist...)

It sounds like you know how to ride a motorcycle, so I would say you are fully prepared to ride a scooter. My guess is that those that have problems with the scooters are guests that rent them never having ridden a scooter or a motorcycle in their life (since you don't need a special license to ride a scooter) and expect it to be easy to navigate. You have to be quick thinking, similar to riding a motorcycle. If you have never in your life ridden a motorcycle or a scooter, perhaps a foreign country is not the place to start, but if you have I would say you're fully equipped to enjoy the things you want. Plus, I'd really like to see the actual stats on how many people have actually DIED while on vacation in the Bahamas, just because people are aggressive and you may think you're going to die (which I often feel like just driving through Boston), doesn't mean by any stretch of the imagination that anyone really has. If it truly was that dangerous, they wouldn't be renting them anymore. What kind of country would want to kill off their biggest source of income (tourists)??

yes, death does seem to trump all else! i like your day one 'see how it goes' plan. that may be exactly what i do! my husband has been to bermuda and he said that by riding the bus he could tell he'd NEVER want to ride a scooter there. but then my husband is a wuss. i've been watching youtube videos of people riding (how they film it is beyond me--i sincerely hope they are all done on double scooters with the NON DRIVER holding the camera!) and it doesn't look any scarier than, say, I-80 on a motorcycle. and way LESS scary than the capitol beltway at rush hour (or any other time for that matter!)

i wouldn't say i CAN ride a motorcycle (anymore) but i HAVE (a very small one) and have passenged (is that a word?) on one a lot--like since i was so small i had to sit in FRONT (of my dad)!

but good point about the not killing off tourists. i was sort of looking at it that way too--they wouldn't RENT scooters if people just continuously crashed them into walls. that wouldn't be very profitable, would it?

Congratulations on your cruise deal!! I thought I saw a post by you over on cruise critic . I've only been on one cruise so far, but I LOVED it and can't wait for my second which I just booked last week (and sadly is still a year away.) I can't wait to hear all about your last minute trip! And I say go for the scooter if you feel comfortable with it!

I vote for the scooter!

We took taxi's everywhere when we went, and it was kind of $$$$$ (and, they might... just might... have taken slight advantage of the fact that we weren't familiar with the island). But, we didn't know any better, and I was young - so lesson learned.

I thought I'd check in the general trip report area to see what "friends" are about to go on trips, and I found yours! Congrats on the great cruise deal! Are you going to work some "work" into this trip?

of course i am! but that kind of work is fun for me. in fact, i have a hard time NOT doing it. which reminds me--i should put my little notepad in my carry on bag (or, rather, on the pile of stuff that is the beginnings of my carry on bag!) thanks for the reminder!

Very cool trip! What cruiseline are you on? We were in NYC this past Sunday taking a Circleline cruise and saw a NCL ship and I think a Holland America ship just a few piers down (we were at Pier 83)! Have a great time!

the NCL ship you saw on sunday is the exact ship i will be on THIS sunday--the norwegian gem (i could have made it a super SUPER last minute cruise and gone on that day, but it was my husband's birthday and, well...that would just be mean!) i'm getting SUPER excited...but am a little freaked out that i'm not even remotely organized yet. i'm hoping to take care of all of that right now--wish me luck!
