Sparky's Gone to the World- A TR 9/13/11-9/20/11 - Page 35 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Stan was a wonderful guy! So glad you got the medicine and DD's eye was better very soon! That had to be uncomfortable for her, poor thing!
Thanks Cam! Stan was the Man! He was great and I know he could tell we were at our limit when we got in the van. He made our situation so much better and easier. I will never forget his kindness.
I could tell she was uncomfortable all day, but it didn't look that bad and she didn't want to leave. However, once back at the resort...it could no longer be neglected and I thought it should be looked at. It only took about a full day of eye meds before the redness was gone. Less than 24 hours and she was not complaining about it anymore. Plus I think she realized that it was helping because every morning and night she would say "I need my eye medicine!" and then hold her little eyelids apart.
Wow! I'm glad you had a good experience with medical services from the area. I'm surprised that the hospital didn't identify her eye as pink eye right away--that's certainly what it looks like to me from just the photo. (I used to be a school teacher and ended up with Pink Eye more times than I can count.) Way to go Stan for giving everyone a ride back! What a nice guy! I hope DD feels much better in the coming days!
I'm sorry you missed your GG rezzie, but it sounds like everything worked out for the best!

Glad that Stan made the trip to the hospital a bit better. Sorry about DD pink eye. I thought so!
He really did! Luckily, for DD and us too, her eye was cleared up very quickly.

I am glad it ended up that way. First Stan was great and lifted our spirits, the hospital nurses and doctor were very nice, then Stan was the man again. If it weren't for him, our experience would have been not so great. It's amazing how one persons kindness can make a such a difference in our attitude toward what was going on. I realized while writing this TR how much we appreciated Stan, to the point that I am contemplating writing a letter to Centra Care about how great he is and what an asset he is to their company, even as just a driver. I mean seriously, the driver made our experience. Of course I won't tell them about the women's ride!
I don't remember having Pink Eye before, so I wasn't sure if that is what it was or not. It was top of the list of possibilities in my head though. The only reason I was not sure, and the doctor too I think, is because I said that when she got up in the morning her eye wasn't gooey or crusty. But it was like I said, on subsequent mornings. Coming home and finding that out about her school, just verified it for me.
I think we made the right decision by hanging at the resort that night, and going to the hospital instead of our ADR. My idea of booking GG at the beginning of the trip when everyone was still energized and refreshed, didn't work out so well. Hopefully next time. I felt somewhat bad bc we had told DD that we were having dinner with Chip and Dale when she wanted to stand in line for them at MK that day. After that she asked if every meal we had was the Chip and Dale dinner. I did try for an ADR later in the week, but had no luck. I didn't keep trying though, because we had decided to do something else instead. It all worked out though, so it was good.
Wow!!! What an ordeal! I'm glad everything went smoothly, but for them to want to charge $300 just to be seen?!?!?! That's insane!
I know if Hope ever gets pink eye, and hopefully she never will, that I will be a total mess. I have a thing about eyeballs. I can't stand going to the eye doctor, I mean if they could sedate me to give me eye drops I'd probably go more often, but that would probably defeat the purpose of going to see the EYE doctor...eyes would need to be open not closed. I also can't stand watching anyone do anything with their eyes, or God forbid me needing to do anything to someone elses eyes...eye drops or contact lenses. It would just be a total nightmare for me...I just don't want to think about it.

That is why I said, "Thanks, but no thanks!" I am waiting to see what happens now because after I came home I called my insurance company and inquired about getting reimbursement for the script. I was then told that they ONLY pay for scripts and SERVICES if you go to a pre approved hospital. So I might be getting a bill in the mail anyhow from Celebration Hospital, because of course that is not one of the pre approved hospitals. Ugh...I forget where the ones that are approved are, but they were all a trek from WDW. Figures.
Thank goodness I didn't take the woman's advice and pay OOP then submit for reimbursement, because according to my insurance that would have never happened.
SO glad that Stan saved the day. When I first started reading I wondered if she had gotten bit by something. On one of our trips Dd woke up saying her eye was hurting and it was red and swollen terribly, luckily some doses of benadryl helped.
Your DD eye did not look like pink eye at first, but after hearing about the other kids at school I think the doctor made the right call. Glad the medication worked so quickly. Sorry that you missed GG but is just means you will have to get there next time, I think getting the medication, a nice meal at the resort and swimming was the perfect choice.

Yay Stan! Yeah, I didn't believe completely till I heard it was going around her school that it was PE, then I did.
I do think that we did the right thing by staying behind at the resort. It was a nice evening and we were able to relax.
Just from the beginning teasers - I could tell it sounded like the start of pink eye. That's how it starts - then it gets gooey and crusty. Also you should write a letter to Centra Care re: Stan! As a healthcare professional - I can assure you, we like to get praise once in a while. (Usually, we hear all the bad and none of the good) So a letter would bring it to the attention of his supervisors and then it should get back to him.

I think I will write that letter Coop! It's going on my list of things to do. There were a couple CM's that I just thought were wonderful and have thought about writing to CM appreciation as well and I think I will. For instance, as small as it seems...CM Steve in the arcade at our resort. I mean we were in that arcade almost every night. Every night he was smiling big, recongnized and said hello to us. He was just so nice, to everyone there, and so happy and smiling. He was just a great guy. He made us want to return to the arcade. More on him later....
All caught up! Loved the pictures from BBB! Your daughter makes a lovely princess!
So sorry your DD came down with pink eye during the trip. I've had pink eye myself a couple of times and it is not fun! : I had to throw out my contacts, the solutions and any makeup that came into contact with the infected eye. But, I'm just glad that you were able to get medical assistance so your DD could start feeling better.

Thanks! I am so glad I bought that photopass before the trip. I think we got so many great shots of her at BBB. Even more shots are coming from another day we had elsewhere, that also made the cd worth every penny.
It is too bad that DD came down with PE, but at least we were able to get it taken care of so it wasn't an issue that long.
Thanks for following along with my trip!

It's on my to do list for today! I do think that Stan needs a letter. I wonder how many people who go there, appreciate the driver. I mean I am sure they appreciate the drive, but the driver? He needs some recognition!
