As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great day at AK!! And I agree there is nothing like an early ADR before the park opens ......I try and do it at every bfast we do a park.....MK at CP walking down main street with no people around is priceless.....Ak at TH when it is the coolest part of the day.....epcot for the princess bfast....are the ones we must do each year before park open.....
Loving your TR......Abby really seemed to get into the boneyard dig....my grand kiddos do too....and it is a lil relax and people watch time for me....lol
Thanks. I have yet to convince Abby or Lenny we have to do early ADR's at the other parks - mainly because some people want to sleep late on vacation . Maybe one of these days but probably not. I'd just be happy getting at the parks for rope drop for a change. Abby absolutely LOVES the Boneyard. I don't know if it's because it gives her a chance to play or a chance to sit where it's nice and cool. I'm thinking the latter choice. I can't say I blame her as AK is always so hot. I don't normally do people watching - I usually look at whatever paperwork I have for penny collecting or what we'll do later in the day, things like that.

Thanks, it was going smooth. You'll just have to stay tuned to hear the rest of the story on the scooter.
Just catching up again. So glad that you managed to get your glasses back- what a relief!
Glad that you enjoyed the food this time at O'hana. It looks like Abby had a great time meeting all the characters at MK. It's good to hear that the food was good at CRT too as we are taking my DD for her 4th birthday on our upcoming trip. Great pics of Animal Kingdom too.
The day was going so great and then...the scooter. Well, at least it happened during a time when you could have lunch while you were waiting for them to come to replace it, so not a lot of time lost.
It was going great but you're right, it was at a good time so it wasn't a lot of time.

Lady Divine is divine, but I can see why Abby would not want to get too close to her, she is a bit creepy looking at the same time and after Abby probably noticed that she almost took your hat off with her stilt and didn't want to take any chances. Smart girl!
She is fascinating to watch. Abby's funny though - she likes the Stilt Walkers in the parades and FOLK, but here she didn't like it. I have no idea why. I'm not sure if she noticed the hat portion or not because even before then, she didn't want to stop and see her.

Oh, KRR is my youngest DD's FAVORITE ride ever! She would go to AK every day just for that ride. It is not my most favorite as I don't like to get wet either and I usually wear jeans or jean shorts in the park as we usually go during cooler times of the year (Nov or Feb) and the feeling of wet jeans is not enjoyable, but I bear it for her (and usually have fun b/c we are doing it together). I have gone on many times with a poncho to get off soaking wet! LOL. Our last trip dd and I rode it non-stop about 15 times! My dh and oldest dd rode it 2 times and got wet and decided that was enough. The line was not long at all so we just kept going and we were lucky that we never were not getting wet, but we sure had fun laughing at the others who did! Well, my dh told my other dd: "when they get soaked they will stop". Sure enough on our last ride we were the ones that went down backwards and I had on my poncho and got SOAKED!! It was our turn to be laughed at! LOL...I told my youngest dd, that I was done and luckily it was close to getting our ADR at Yak and Yeti (which we sat close to the door and FROZE from being soaked). Your TR reminded me all of that. My dd and I had a great time together even though we got soaked.
I'm glad I reminded you of a good memory. I think only die hard fans of this ride would keep going once soaked but isn't that really the point of the ride - get you to go on and take your chances? You don't get wet, you laugh at the ones who do and then go back on. You get wet and get laughed at and you're done. I'm with you though - the times of year you go I wouldn't want to go on either. This year was just so hot that we really did need a way to cool down because staying in the shade and going in for things like Nemo just didn't help for long this year. Getting wet did because at least I was comfortable the rest of the day. Abby didn't say one way or the other but I just know by the way she was acting that she was too.

And I totally agree with you about the lines at KRR...they are so weird. They have always seemed to merged at different spots within the line and I have never understood that myself. Our last time we had FP's for the ride, but the stand by line moved so fast that it really didn't matter. Probably b/c it was getting a little chilly in the day and we were one of the few crazys willing to take a chance of getting soaked!
I'm glad it's not only me that thinks that. Having never been on the ride before, I didn't know the lines did that and I don't know. It's just weird. I wonder what the purpose behind it is.

As for the heat, we live in lower Alabama so I know what you are talking about. Often times it is 94 degrees here, but feels like 102 degrees with the humidity. The humidity is what kills us, but for the most part we are use to it. I guess we have lived here so long that I actually prefer it to the cold (I know call me crazy, but once I'm cold, I just can't seem to ever get warm). The cold effects me much more.
I hear you on both the humidity and the cold. I need to move someplace where it's one temperature all year long. I don't care for the humidity, that does get to me but so does the cold. If my feet or my back get cold, forget it, it takes forever to warm up. Is it any wonder why I don't mind working in a kitchen? I'm so bad with getting cold and staying cold that because of some things that happened last year at Disney (namely my feet getting really, really cold) I took an electric blanket to Disney this year . And if taking it's not bad enough, I even used it pretty much every night of our vacation

Can't wait to see how the rest of the day comes out at Dinoland etc. If I remember right, you all are fans of Primeval Whirl which scares the tar out of me. lol

You'll have to stay tuned to see how it goes but I will say here that Primeval Whirl was still closed so we couldn't ride it and Abby just didn't mention it at all.

Rachel
Thanks Rachel - it was a HUGE relief to Lenny that we found them. I was happy too but not as much as he was. When Abby's "in the mood" for characters, she does enjoy them but if I try to make her get in line then she's not so happy. Lucky for me, she did want to see them this year. We really enjoyed CRT and would definitely go back.
Poor Abby...I can only imagine how exhausted she must have been that first day. There are days where all I've wanted to do is lay down on the cement and cry while waiting for WDW transportation too.
From yours and Chez's reports from SeaWorld it looks like a lot has changed in even the 2 years it's been since I've been there. While it's not on my list of things to do in the near future, I would like to see their new Shamu show at some point.
Glad you didn't have any food issues at Ohana this time, I know how you weren't sure about giving it another chance. Sorry though that Lenny's attitude spoiled it. But, at least you found your sunglasses
KRR is one of the few rides I haven't done yet because I don't like having to walk around wet for the rest of the day, and I don't go when it's super hot and would be refreshing. But, how awesome that Abby enjoyed it enough to go twice!
I hope everything gets fixed with Lenny's scooter!

Thanks. I think we've probably all had moments where we've wanted to lay down on the ground and cry. We just can't get away with it as adults. I'm not sure how much it's changed just in the past couple of years since it's been close to 20 since I was there last but we're thinking of going back ourselves because we didn't see any of the shows. We did fnd my glasses but Lenny just started off the morning so badly that it didn't really matter, KWIM? I was happy that Abby tried something new and really liked it. It's just one more sign that she's growing up

You'll find out soon but I will say I don't think you'll regret going with them.
What fun at AK! Glad Abby liked KRR! And very cool that you saw DiVine - we've never seen her. Sorry about the problems with the scooter but sounds like good service if they can get out to you in the hour.
Bravo to Abby for going on Kali twice! Sorry about the scooter troubles, but knowing Walker's service I'm betting they came quickly as promised. (And, btw, much as I dread hearing about the conflicts I'm very glad you include them, as it's a true picture of the trip. Makes the harmonious days more pleasant, too! I think I'm maybe more sensitive to hearing about the arguments because I'm pretty much insulated from them. I live alone and travel alone, so to me they seem more momentous than they actually are!)
My DS loves AK and I swear it is always the hottest park on every trip! I've done the raft ride at another theme park, actually rode it about 3 or 4 times in a row, and we were still wet at dinner hours later. After that day, I am not a big fan of being wet in clothes. Although...with the heat we've had lately I don't think I would mind that much.
Here's hoping you got the scooter fixed in a decent amount of time.

Another great installment! How cool that you saw Divine! We've never seen her.
And my hat's off to you and Abby for riding KRR twice in a row. I've only ever ridden it once -- on our honeymoon 12 years ago. We were so wet that we had to buy new clothes at a gift shop in AK and we've never ridden it since then!
Great update. It sounds like Lenny is starting to relax and get in the vacation mode. I'm glad Abby enjoyed Kali. I had been a ride wimp and it was one of the first rides my kids got me to go on.
