Sparky's Gone to the World- A TR 9/13/11-9/20/11 - Page 22 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Yea I was in Target last night too. Evan is not in school yet but I still bought some folders and they had larger size pencil cases - I bought 2 of those. I love those becaise I can organize his smaller play sets. He has a Peter Pan action set and some Bob the Builder stuff and Roary the Race car set. they all fit in each little pencil box. I love them.

Jumping in a little bit late on the whole list thing...But I, too, am a list maker. I can't do post-its though...David forbid me from buying them anymore, he got tired of finding them all over the place. I was quite proud of myself. The other day I went to the back to school section and only bought three notebooks, and I only bought them because they were on sale for 30 cents a piece. David was amazed. He looked all stressed when I said I looked at the back to school section, and then he found out I only spent about a dollar and he looked like he wasn't sure whether to believe me or not.

Yeah, I could go slightly crazy in the back to school section myself!

Just got caught up...I have been spending all my PP time answering surveys...thanks to one of my PP pals! I am up to about $100 and have participated in 3 product trials at home. Its a bit addicting.
About you binder...you should get a smart phone...I have never felt so on top of my life! I constantly have my calendars and lists with me. Its freeing!

Hey Shelly!! Believe me I understand about the surveys! I just cashed in my last payment before the trip and I officially earned $537.50, from Oct.09-July 10. That is an average of $60 per month. Not too bad!
I plan to start a PTR for next years trip, and keeping a log within it to see if I can pay for myself to go to WDW just on survey money. It should be interesting. Tune in for it!
I would love an organizer of some sort like which you are speaking, but then I would have to pay for that. Ugh.... I once had a palm pilot, PDA whatever that was cool. But it died.
Thanks for joining back in, and congrats on your survey endeavors. I was just thinking about writing you to see if you continued in the pursuit or not.
In the summer, I generally spend an hour or more on the internet. Since you turned me on to the surveys, I am spending that time doing them instead of hanging out at PP!
DH was getting a bit annoyed at the time I was wasting...until I compared it to his online poker games...he could get behind me when it was a "hobby" and not a "job." Then when the samples started arriving...he thought it was neat!
I recently got one that had a $5 bill in the box, with the promise of another $20 after returning the paper surveys. Yesterday I was accepted to participated in a call-in survey for a grocery store that will give me 75,000 points on Toluna ($20+). I will do that later this week. I am trying to keep track of the approximate value of the products I am receiving as well to calculate into my totals. I also think it is really neat to be able to see and comment on some of the products manufacturers are working on.
You made a comment about MyView saying that you stopped having surveys to complete after hitting about $50 in rewards. The same happened to me at the $25 level. I cashed out a couple days ago and have a survey or 2 every day again. Toluna is also my favorite. SurveySpot is where I have been getting most of the samples, so that is neat.

Thanks again!
I cannot wait to follow what you are earning!
I hear you Shelly! My DH didn't think too highly of my survey taking till he realized what I was making. He also loves the sample stuff.
I have found a few sites that seem to slow once you hit a certain mark. Opinion Outpost is another one of them. Toluna is my fave too! I like Survey Spot because it seems like there is always a survey available for me to take, you don't have to wait for rewards, and yes, I have received a few samples from them.
I can't wait to start my PTR-test project, for next year. Though it will have to wait till I get back in 40 days! Plus the time it takes for me to write a brief summary of thoughts with a few pics for my TR.
But I techinally have started my saving for next year. When I start that PTR/test project I will start by listing my totals thus far. Which is from July 2010. My total saving time is July 2010-Nov. 2012. So I hope it goes as well as it did this past year!
I have noticed that as well with opinion outpost. I also like Ipsos I-say. I like the poll prediction game at the end of each survey!
I imagine they make most of their money from the folks who get impatient and frustrated and walk away with "money" in their accounts,
I like Isay as well! I am pretty darn good at the poll game. I am amazed at how many times I put in the exact answer, it's crazy! I am sure people do walk away, I refused to walk away from a couple sites, until I cashed in, now I don't use them anymore.
The ones I am using as of now are...
Isay, MyPoints, Toluna, EPoll, MyView, Opinion Outpost, Swagbucks, Only Cash Surveys, Survey Spot, My Survey, Send Earnings, Sunshine Rewards, and RewardPort Surveys.
Epoll takes some time to build up, but their surveys have been pretty quick. Send Earnings, I just do the paid emails and the weekly (if not biweekly) survey. My Points has paid emails, search points, few surveys, and lots of buying points (points you make for purchases on various websites). So far, I have only been doing the daily scratch off ticket at Sunshine Rewards and the very occasional paid email. They do have 10 survey links that you can do one survey from each link each day. I will return to those after my upcoming trip.
I almost forgot that this trip was a surprise. You made the plate right?
I to love post-its - my desk at work is covered. I'm a big fan of excel - LOVE my spreadsheets. Did one today to show DH why buying the Tables in Wonderland card will be a good idea.

I wish I could use excel more, bc I know I would love it. I just don't get how to use it. So I always end up making charts/tables in Word to do my lists and charts. Ugh...
Yep, I made that plate for the surprise back in April. Obviously she has no idea about the doll, BBB, or her Cinderella oufit either. I am so excited...it's so hard to keep it in!
Hoping DH can keep his mouth shut, this past week he has said something about WDW a few times. I keep telling him, stop it. I know what your talking about, or say the trip (we are planning to visit friends at the end of the month, so she assumes this is what we are speaking about). Good grief!

This sounds interesting Sparky; Do you mind if I try this?
