As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Thank you so much everyone. Skyler's official first day of school is today. I'm waiting (or shall I say trying not to fall back a sleep given Skyler & I have been up at 6 which is early for us) for them to call me and give me an update on how he's doing, although he didn't shed a tear when I left, and surprisingly neither did I. I confess I miss my little stinker though.
I will try to post some new pictures too, as Skyler did get his hair cut last night (or as his Grandpa claims, he looks like the Lawnmower chopped all of his hair off, or as Erick claims, he looks like he's joining the Military). I just like Skyler's hair that short since his hair is thick and grows too fast. He did great going to bed early for me and taking bath time early. Actually here's a Skylerism last night for you all that still has me laughing pretty hard. After his bath, I took my bath and was getting the shampoo out of my hair and Skyler says "Hey Mama, what you do with the Poo?" All went well with him going to bed early and in his own bed until Erick came home from work last night and woke Skyler up by turning on the TV. Skyler wouldn't go back to sleep in his own bed, although I left him there, let him try to cry it out a little bit, and he walked over to our bed and had to sleep with us (and wouldn't wake up at 6 this morning. I'm glad I thought to get him up that early, so he could wake up on his own eat breakfast and have a little bit of Disney Junior before school).
We did spot a few Mickey's in his class room though! One of his classmates was wearing a Mickey Sweatshirt (it was pretty cold this morning) and when I went to say goodbye to Skyler and give him one last hug and kiss while he was playing in the play kitchen area, I spotted a Mickey Chicken Nugget. I guess Mickey's surely cheer up a hard day such as your child's first day of school.
I guess his new backpack is way too big for him (it's ok, we can use it for other things for now, and wait until he's older to use this one), and will go back to using his L.L. Bean Backpack I bought him for Disney. At least his bigger backpack can be a carry on bag for Chicago! I'm trying to see if I can hold off on needing a nap and waiting until after Skyler gets home from school, however I don't know how long that will last.
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and is having a wonderful day. We'll see how long the Mommy tears hold off with Skyler's 1st Day of School. Maybe it just hasn't hit me yet (although maybe talking to my mom kind of helped too, although she did inform me last night when I talked to her that I guess she took my 1st Day of School hard, and knew I probably would too. So did my sister when I called her yesterday to wish the twins a Happy 2nd Birthday).
Sorry everyone. Skyler's 1st Day went quite well. I got a call after they returned from a 5th Grade Musical, which he enjoyed. No call home saying he was having a hard time, or anything. After school, since it was so nice and sunny here (maybe a little bit windy, but warmer than it has been) I took him to the Park right near our house that he loves. There were maybe a half a dozen other children there his age with their moms, and he had fun going on all of the play structures, and slides. He did scare the living daylights out of himself and I by trying to go down the stairs by himself and not waiting for me to get over there. He did have a little tumble, and the wind knocked out of him a little bit, and cried. After checking to make sure no boo boos, we decided it was time to come home (we were there for 45 Minutes to an hour). He was so wiped out from school and extra play time and went right down for a nap for me without any problem. I had decided to take one with him too since I was exhausted from waking up early with him and not having a drop of coffee in me yesterday. Today was a whole other story.
We did have to go and pick up DMIL from work and came home and watched Tangled. Skyler was a little cackle box at Maximus. Between a little down time, dinner, bath, & bed time(took a little bit last night to get him to sleep in his own bed, and I was so thankful Erick didn't turn the TV downstairs to wake Skyler up again 2 nights in a row), he did get a good night's sleep.
Today was a little different. He didn't want to go in to his class room with his Teacher's Assistant or one of the 5th Graders assigned to his class.He still hadn't been assigned a 5th Grade Buddy to help walk him back to his class room. He wanted Mommy to bring him back. He was a tad more clingy today. I did send him to school with his little Mickey Mouse, helped him take his Jacket off, put his backpack on his hook, put Mickey in his backpack, and he had a little harder time saying goodbye to me today.
I was pleasantly surprised to run into his Speech Therapist at School this morning signing myself out, and her giving me a chalkfull of compliments on Skyler and how wonderful his 1st Day was, how well he did in Speech with her, and how polite he is. At least I left there with a smile on my face after hearing all of that from her. Hopefully I can tire him out again the way I did yesterday after getting him in a little bit.
He only has 4 Days left of school (today included) before we head to Chicago. I know he is going to miss his last day of school before the school is on Spring Break, but our flight has already been booked before we knew when he was starting school. Not like 1 Absence will kill him. I do however love that I can call or e-mail his school next Thursday night instead of waiting until Friday to let them know he won't be there on Friday.
I have been having fun reading through the Parent/Student Handbook, and signing the forms that need to get back to them (It's a good thing I was more awake than I was yesterday to sign them, although I almost signed and would have turned in the Military Recruiter permission form (not letting that happen until he's 18 and can decide that for himself, although I have nothing against the Military, just not approaching my 3 year old on that), and all of the Early Dismissal/Inclement Weather early release forms, and everything else they need. I just hope they don't kill me that I have 4 people(including myself) authorized to pick Skyler up, but it is important for them to have Daddy, & both grandparents that he lives with and knows authorized to pick him up if I can't.
I think I need to stock up more this weekend on the Johnson's & Johnson's Bedtime Bubble Bath. The lavander and chamomile have been my best friend to get Skyler to sleep early and naturally make him tired besides playing at school.
Glad that Skyler is enjoying school, it is so normal for there to be some days when they are a bit more clutchy, I think he is doing an amazing job (and so are you ). Hope that the free time allows you to get most of the packing done for Chicago. Hope you have a great trip.

So happy Skyler (and you) are adjusting. Expect Skler to have better drop off days and then some bad ones as well. More than once I've left daycare and sat in my car and cried because of the guilt and the "I don't want you to leave" that comes from Evan. Then there are other days that I can't even get a "bye" out of him because he is off doing something. And Evan is older than Sklyer and has been at daycare since an infant. Give it some time, he will get into the routine.
As far as sleeping, have you tried a twilght turle? It really was a God send when I was having problems with Evan staying in his own room.
