Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm​. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

French toast is so easy it's almost criminal!

I like to use day-old french bread, but if you don't have that, use any bread. Mix up some eggs and milk (like you might do for scrambled eggs). I don't measure, so just 'guesstimate', then I add a bit of sugar, some cinnamon and nutmeg. Dunk the bread slices in the egg mixture and let it sit for a few seconds to soak up all the good stuff, then place on your skillet (which has been either sprayed with cooking spray or melt some butter in it). Cook like you would pancakes. Easy and good. I also like to use eggnog in the winter in place of the milk. That is really delicious.

Stuffed french toast is also great as Bert & Sully mentioned above...especially with cream cheese! [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]

I have a couple actually. Here's one:

MARMALADE-STUFFED FRENCH TOAST WITH ORANGE SYRUP

8 2 1/2 x 4 1/2-inch slices French bread (each about 1 inch thick)
4 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
1/4 cup marmalade

4 large eggs
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) butter
Orange Syrup

Preheat oven to 300°F. Place baking sheet in oven. Cutting through top crust of each bread slice, make 4-inch-long by 2-inch-deep pocket. Stir cream cheese and marmalade in small bowl. Spoon 1 generous tablespoonful cream cheese mixture into each bread pocket.

Whisk eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon and nutmeg in pie plate.

Dip 4 stuffed bread slices into egg mixture, coating completely. Melt 1 tablespoon butter in large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add dipped bread to skillet. Cook until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side. Transfer French toast to baking sheet in oven. Repeat dipping and cooking with remaining 4 bread slices, egg mixture and 1 tablespoon butter. Serve with Orange Syrup.

Makes 4 servings.

ORANGE SYRUP

3/4 cup frozen orange juice concentrate
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1/2 cup sugar

Combine orange juice concentrate, butter and sugar in small saucepan. Stir over low heat until butter melts and sugar dissolves (do not boil). Remove from heat. Cool slightly. (Can be made 2 days ahead. Keep refrigerated. Rewarm over low heat.)

Makes 1 1/4 cups.

This one somebody just gave me to try.

CRANBERRY-STUFFED FRENCH TOAST

four 1-inch-thick diagonal slices Italian or French bread
4 tablespoons cranberry sauce (any kind)
2 large eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
confectioners' sugar for sprinkling

Accompaniment: pure maple syrup

Put bread slices, cut sides down, on a work surface and make a horizontal lengthwise opening in each by cutting to within 1/4 inch of opposite side. Spread 1 tablespoon cranberry sauce in each opening and gently press closed.

In a flat-bottomed dish just large enough to hold bread slices in one layer whisk together eggs, milk, and a pinch salt. Add stuffed bread slices and soak, turning once or twice, until custard is absorbed, 15 to 20 minutes.

In a 9-to 10-inch non-stick skillet heat butter over moderate heat until foam subsides and cook bread slices 5 to 7 minutes on each side, or until golden and crisp. Transfer French toast with a slotted spatula to paper towels to drain briefly and sprinkle lightly with sugar.

Serve French toast with maple syrup.

Serves 2.

BANANA-STUFFED FRENCH TOAST

1 firm, ripe banana
3/4 cup half-and-half
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
four 1-inch-thick slices day-old challah or brioche
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
confectioners' sugar for dusting
Accompaniment: warm maple syrup

Preheat oven to 350° F.

Cut banana into 1/4-inch-thick slices and in a bowl whisk together half-and-half, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cut bread slices horizontally almost in half, leaving 1 edge intact. Stuff each pocket with 4 to 6 banana slices (do not overstuff). In a baking dish just large enough to hold bread slices in one layer, arrange slices and pour custard over them. Soak slices, turning them over once or twice to allow bread to absorb all liquid, about 15 minutes.

In a 12-inch non-stick skillet melt butter over low heat until foam subsides and cook slices until golden, about 5 minutes on each side.

Dust French toast with confectioners' sugar and serve with syrup.

Serves 2.

Ok I have two recipes for the banana stuffed french toast to give you. People have had positive comments on both. I don't eat bananas so I have no comment and figured you could decide which you want to try!

BAKED BANANA-STUFFED FRENCH TOAST

4 ripe bananas, peeled, each cut into 4 pieces
8 thin slices light (reduced-fat) mixed-grain bread
1/2 cup nonfat milk
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of ground cinnamon

Nonstick vegetable oil spray
Powdered sugar
8 large strawberries
Pure maple syrup (optional)

Preheat oven to 350°F. Place 4 pieces of banana on each of 4 bread slices; mash banana on bread. Top with remaining 4 bread slices. Whisk milk, eggs, vanilla extract and cinnamon in glass pie dish. Working in batches, dip bread in egg mixture; let soak 45 seconds on each side.

Spray large nonstick skillet with vegetable oil spray. Heat over medium heat. Working in batches, add French toast to skillet and cook until golden, about 2 minutes per side. Transfer to baking sheet; bake 8 minutes. Transfer to plates. Dust with powdered sugar. Garnish with strawberries. Serve with maple syrup, if desired.

Serves 4.

Per Serving (without syrup): calories, 243; total fat, 6g; saturated fat, 2g; cholesterol, 160mg.

Michelle I'm so sorry. I was so busy trying to find my recipes I didn't see your request for something with chocolate. - Have you ever tried the chocolate drizzled at Hollywood & Vine's CB [img]graemlins/yuma.gif[/img] ?!

I substitute whatever I have usually if I don't have the Orange Marmalade btw.

I think I may have something for the chocoholic french toast lover. - I'll get back to you.

Does anyone has any good recipes for French Toast? My kids love it, but I only make the frozen french toast sticks! I'd like to make them some homemade!

Chocolate Stuffed Heart-Shaped French Toast with Raspberry Sauce

1 ounce thin bittersweet chocolate bar, such as Lindt
2 large eggs, beaten lightly
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon milk
4 1/3-inch thick slices stale egg bread
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup fresh raspberries
2 teaspoons sugar, or to taste
Confectioners' sugar for dusting
Mint for garnish

Break chocolate into 2 pieces. In a bowl whisk together eggs, vanilla, and milk. Using a 3-inch heart shaped cutter cut a heart shape from each slice of bread. Place a piece of chocolate on top of one of the pieces of bread and gently press another piece on top, pinching the edges. Repeat the procedure with other 2 pieces of bread. Dip bread into egg mixture, making sure they are soaked. Heat the butter in a non-stick skillet over moderate heat until it begins to foam, add the stuffed bread hearts and cook them, turning them once for 2 to 3 minutes per side or until they are nicely browned. In a bowl mash 3/4 of the raspberries and stir in the sugar. Stir in the remaining berries. Transfer the browned hearts to a plate and top with the raspberries. Dust with confectioners' sugar and garnish with mint.

Yield: serves 1

How about a cheese filled french toast fit for a prince or princess!!! Here's one direct from WDW!
From Cinderella's famous Castle breakfast:

2 eggs
2 cups milk
1 tablespoon vanilla
Mix ingredients and set aside.

4 tablespoons baking powder
4 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
Sift ingredients together and add to egg mixture. Allow to stand for 10
minutes.

1 quart frying shortening
6 cheese danish cut in quarters
Cinnamon/sugar

Dip cut cheese danish into the egg batter. Bring shortening to 375° degrees and place dipped bread in fryer until golden brown on one side, turn over to brown other side. Roll in cinnamon/sugar and serve immediately.
