We're going to WDW! Adventures of a Mom & Toddler the TR! 9/24-9/30/2010 - Page 18 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Thank you so much everyone. I'm slightely nervous about it(as I'll be be further away from my family, but at least a positive side is through joining Passporter, we will at least have friends out there! MinnieJen doesn't live too far from where we'll be living, and Skyler is right in between her boys' ages, so at least it will be nice to have not only a friend, but Passporter Friend, out there to meet up with, and who loves Disney as much as Skyler & I do (and even loves sporting the Mickey Ears too).
I know a lot of Erick's friends he's grown up with still live in Colorado, so it won't be that difficult for him to feel back at home. I even mentioned to Erick yesterday that I will probably laugh if we run into any of his old Teachers or if Skyler gets anyone as a Teacher that knew Erick throughout his school days and asks Skyler if he's related to "Big Ortiz" or "Little Ortiz". Erick, although being the Middle Child, was known as "Big Ortiz" and his older Brother who is shorter than Erick was known as "Little Ortiz", since I know DSIL got that too when she went to school out there.
Hopefully between the cleaning and packing I can try to update my TR (hmm, even gives me an idea too for our long drive out there when I'm not behind the wheel), but I will let everyone know when it is Official about our move. Despite the nerves, I'm excited about it though since I love Colorado. I don't know how well Skyler will do with the change, but hopefully for him having some friends out there will make the adjustment easier for him.
I'm sad to hear DFIL won't have a desk at his job now after the middle of March, but I know when he put in for his next request for where he wanted his job to be, back in Colorado was it. I know Erick has had his heart set on moving back there too (and what makes me a happy camper is at least the Apartments until we can afford our first house together, are very affordable, actually even more affordable than out where we live right now). I'll keep everyone updated on us though with the move and everything. Thanks of all the moving pixies and good luck wishes. Hopefully I can keep all of the moving stress under control (and at least this move won't be while pregnant like our move to Virginia was).
Hello Becki
I just read your whole TR and all I can say is WOW!
with everything Skyler has to deal with he acts (according to your report) so much better than most kids his age! thats so impressive!
And Im very very happy for you that he only has a mild version of autism!
also your relationship with your mom seems to be like the one between my mom and me. I love her very much but its better to not live too close to her
And we will be moving to CO soon too (right now we are not too far away neither) so who knows maybe we will see each other some day. maybe at casa bonita in denver? if you dont know that place yet you must look it up!!
Good luck getting ready for the move! We'll be waiting when you have time to update! I'm sure Skylar will adjust to the new school situation just fine. Kids are usually better at that sort of thing!
Wow, I go away for a few days and all heck breaks loose. Good luck with everything. I hope if you move you have a little more than a month to pack. I moved almost 2 years ago when Evan was about 2 1/2. Not an easy task I can assure you.
Good luck girlfriend. I wish I lived closer to help out in some way.

Thank you so much for joining in Darleen. Thank you for all of your sweet comments about Skyler. He does act out a little bit every now and then, and I'm truely blessed for a child who can't fully communicate with us very well, he is a very well behaved child. Thank goodness with having to reason with a now teenage younger brother and having experience working with pre-schoolers(Special Needs or other), it helps me keep my cool with Skyler and know when I just need to advert his attention to something else. Thank you, I too am very happy too he only has a mild version of Autism, as it still is a bit much for us.
I agree, my mom and I do get along great, except I think our Zodiac Signs don't get along too well (nor do two of the same signs for that matter, and that's how it is for my dad and I). I think in some way I always knew she as a Taurus and myself as a Scorpio would always somehow butt heads, but she really is a great person (and you're right not to live too close to).
How cool that you're moving to CO very soon. Good luck with your move. We will certainly have to meet up once we move out there. I haven't heard of the restaurant you've mentioned and sadly neither has my DH (you would think he has when he grew up only an hour away from there). We will have to give them a try though (thank you so much for the suggestion). I just checked them out and they sound great (and we love Mexican Food)! It looks like a really fun place. Thank you for joining in on my TR. I truely appreciate it.
Good luck getting ready for the move! We'll be waiting when you have time to update! I'm sure Skylar will adjust to the new school situation just fine. Kids are usually better at that sort of thing!
Thank you so much Heather. I'm sure he'll get used to it once the change in pace and in life settles down a little bit. Plus it might be a bigger adjustment for him too not just with school, as we will live with DMIL & DFIL whom still have their house in Colorado, but we'll be finding a place of our own once we get settled with jobs and all of Skyler's needs. Skyler's on a pretty specific routine, so once it changes on him, it will take a little readjusting for him, actually for me too living in the Rocky Mountains (it not being a vacation spot for me).

Thank you so much Holly. That is sweet of you. At least having DMIL & DFIL here with us and a lot of things packed in our storage room, hopefully packing up and moving won't be too stressful (and at least this time I can actually help lift things, not just the feather weight things while being pregnant). I hope we have more than a month to pack up too, as it is difficult to get a whole townhouse packed up and moved (not just a 1 bedroom studio apartment).
I hope our move comes after our trip to Chicago, since planning that and preparing for our move are coming up all too quickly. Erick was trying to change my dates on me for our trip, but I think a few little details hadn't crossed his mind. With the dates I had planned for it would allow me to celebrate 2 different Holidays with each side of the family, not just Easter with my Mom's side, but it would allow me to celebrate Passover with my Dad's. I know with Skyler's attention span he may not last through a whole 2 hour Passover Sedar, but I'm pretty sure with the family well aware of his Special Needs may not feel offended if I have to excuse myself from the table to attend to his needs if they're prepared ahead of time. Another thing is with Skyler's Autism I'm not trying to overwhelm him with visiting too many family members in one day like my sister and I used to do. I know he's going to need breaks and time to play, and actually my DMIL thought it was a great reason to stay as long as we are for that reason (after realizing how uncomfortable he was feeling on Christmas Eve in Church Services when more people entered the room and someone had to take him outside). I can't imagine putting that kind of stress on him (other than I know it will happen Easter Day, but we'll prepare my Aunt we're staying with or my Grandma that if he needs a break we may need to slip into the room we're sleeping in just to give him a little space). I know he's not as used to my mom's side of the family, as he has become to constantly being around DMIL & DFIL, and his 2 aunts and uncles, so that isn't overwhelming for him, but I know he will be a little out of his comfort zone on our trip. I hope I can get another update and pictures in soon. Thank you all for your patience. Life does get in the way sometimes.

Thanks everyone. Skyler will be starting school soon. We'll know in less than a month what kind of services they're going to provide us with for him, although I am quite peeved they want to base his accomodations on a Developmental Delay instead of Autism which he has been formally diagnosed with by a Neurologist (whether or not it was written on a prescription paper saying just the word Autism on it). It was nice having Erick home all of last week as he had some Vacation time to use from one job before he would have lost it, but we had a lot of family time in just the 3 of us which was nice.
Tomorrow night I have a fun night planned for Skyler (well all 3 of us, but more geared toward Skyler at home) as we got an e-mail from the Imagination Movers (we're on their mailing list) informing us that their tour has one of their destinations aired on the Disney Channel. We were trying to take Skyler to see them live this year, but the tickets were quite pricy. I think he'll enjoy viewing them more so from our TV in our living room and being able to watch it from the comfort of our own home. We already have the DVR set to record it so that incase Daddy decides to watch his shows, we can watch it later.
We're getting excited about going to Chicago very soon and actually have a Passporter Meet in place with Jodi (Lazanya) and another Passporter! We're getting very excited to meeting them on our trip, and it will be a nice little break from all of the family we will be visiting. Please spare some pixies for Skyler and I that we can survive at least one day with one of my grandmothers. I love her to death, she is just very judgemental and complains about everything. She can be very difficult to be around without feeling like you just need to leave already. I certainly need to get a picture of her with Skyler though as sadly that wasn't the case when she first met him and I don't think I got one of her with him during my sister's Wedding Weekend. I hope Skyler's going to have fun with my cousins' little ones, since he will fit in with both boys.
I will say though I hope I do get in a little me time soon before either our trip or before our move as I still have 1 Christmas Gift to use up and it is for a few hours away from Skyler that either my DIL's are home or Erick is home from work so that I can go take a cooking class of my choice (we have a Cooking School near us in our mall down the street that I received a Gift Certificate to). It will be so nice to take that class and have a little bit of time away from Skyler.
