As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). It has been a few years since we traveled to the World in January. Can anyone please refresh my memory as to what we should pack? I know the weather can be unpredictable. We were fortunate enough to have really good weather the last time we were there in January, but I'm not sure if we will have the same luck this time. We will be staying with our DVC points, and so we will be able to do laundry easily.
Any suggestions? We are traveling from NJ so we will need to have some warmer clothes for the trip there and back.
The "weather reports" say average high is 70 and average low is 50's. My husband and I went in December 2 years ago and almost froze to death! We are from Michigan, so we flew in our sweatshirts and jeans and we wore them the WHOLE trip...no need for those shorts!!!!
You are best to pack in layers, I know that doesn't help at all, but that's served us the best. You can always throw a sweatshirt in a backpack or carry it if it warms up in the afternoon, but you might not want to get stuck paying for one at a gift shop if someone is "Freezing!" (There's always one in the group that's cold! ha ha ha!). Pack your basic layers (tank tops, t-shirts, long sleeved shirts, sweatshirts) and see how it feels! It's a blessing and a curse to be able to do laundry on vacation! Have a GREAT trip!
I went in January a few years ago and plan on going again at the end of January of this year. Layers are the way to go. I would head out in the morning with a t-shirt under a light fleece pullover. Some days I also needed my "heavenly fleece" jacket from Lands End. As the day went on I peeled off what I didn't need and as night approached I layered back up. Never needed shorts, though.
It's been a chilly winter so far. Right now its in the 30s at night! I had several mornings last week that it was between 38 and 40 when I left for the day. I would bring hats, gloves, scarves and layers. I brought a thin long underwear shirt that I wore almost every day. It was easy to duck into a bathroom and remove it--and stuff it in my little bag when I no longer needed it. I had one day where I started with my LJ shirt, a turtleneck and a T shirt and ended up in just the T shirt mid afternoon.
I'm adding, I wish I would have known about purex washer/dryer sheets sooner. Easy, you hardley waste andy space, and you can find some nice scents. I'm planning on layers and bringing carry on only for this trip, I plan on doing laundry as well.

We were planning the same thing. We got the Purex sheets as a gift from a friend and I am so glad we did, they're awesome and easy to pack!

One trip for us was freezing, ever since, we always pack gloves, a scarf and a warm jacket in winter. Usually you will not need all that, but if you do and you don't have them, it very quickly zaps the fun out of the day. LOL I agree with the layers method as well. We love WDW in winter : )
We are goin for a long weekend January 8-11...as we are flying I am trying to think of what I can do with our winter coats which we are definitely going to need in NJ!!!!
I have been in January and remember having my infant son (now 6) bundled in a fleece suit on top of his clothes and wearing sweatshirts and jeans...just trying to think what to do with three kids and bulky winter coats...

Winter gear is tough. I just returned from Europe in the snow. I packed my stadium length down coat in a large "space bag" and just rolled the air out of it. It was flat as a pancake! I then slipped this into the outside zippered compartment of my suitcase so that it would be easily accessed when I needed it. Very easy. For the record I also pack a standard size feather pillow in a space bag in my suitcase... all the comforts of home, very little space required : )
We have been twice in January and both times there were freezing temps. Have gloves and scarves with you! I would bring a backpack that can handle layers because theres a big difference between going for attraction to attraction where the lines are mostly indoors and standing outdoors for Peter Pan!! Also The air off the lakes can be chilly. We brought oversized windbreakers that fold into pouches. They came in handy to put over our layers.

Definitely going with hats and gloves...My kids are inconsistent-sometimes they are freezing and sometimes they are too hot...so I will dress them in layers...I am wondering if I should just dress them in layers to go to the airport and forget the winter coats or bring them...
I don't know what to plan on this trip as well. Currently early Jan is going for low 70's so why bother with the winter coat. Unless they are calling for below 50 in orlando I plan on layers and skipping the winter coat. If the dreaded freeze warnings are out then I will break down, pay for another bag and bring all the winter extras.
