The way We do a Disney Re-Do ~~ Beach club Aug 13-22 - FINISHED!!! 1/20 - Page 27 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

What a "mission" for DH, Ben and Hannah. Sorry that the "other" mission made Ben feel so ill. I can almost imagine your poor DH hiking back to the resort to turn around again to walk all the way back. I think that by the time they made it back Hannah was probably exhausted just from all the walking . Glad she enjoyed the ride so much though. Hope to hear she got to enjoy it again during your trip (minus Ben of course).
I am really enjoying your trip! I am so glad that you go/took the opportunity to return to WDW. I can't wait to read more.
Thanks!

I can only imagine that he would have lost his cool a bit...He was pretty frustrated when he got back home. But he was probably calmer than I would have been in the same situation!

Hoped Ben felt better soon, I can relate, I choose not to go on the teacups last year, but this year where it was only me and mom, I went on. Well I felt sick for the next hour and a half, I was mere milliseconds from wanting to leave and started to feel better.
Loved the pic, Hannah looked SO happy, but yes Ben looked as if he was holding onto the pole for dear life! LOL Not good for him, but quite a memory with the pic. I was the first pic I have seen where Ben didn't have the ear to ear smile, I missed it...
Can't wait to hear more!
His smile returned...The next day was awesome for him!

I'm glad Hannah LOVED it though! and my heart when AWWWWW when she said she would rather them all be toghether riding other rides than not be. That is soooooo sweet. Like One Little Spark said, "Poor Ben, and Poor DH". That had to be rough for the both of them, and I could totally see and relate to both of them for I would have felt the same way being in either of there shoes. Can't wait to read more.
I told my kids that I would go the green side with DS and Delaney next trip (assuming she makes that height target) and DH can take Hannah back to orange...I did the green side last visit and thought it was neat.

LOL!
[QUOTE=sc507;3484961] Now why would the photographer even take the picture if it wasn't in a "sanctioned" spot. That stinks! We had some go missing off our CD this year too (but I never found out why) and I was really sad - they were fun ones with the Prince Naveen frog
Glad that Hannah enjoyed MS! And my DH would have been SO frustrated if that had happened with our kids [/QUOTE
I got more information from another photog. Apparently, there are certain magic shots that can only be done in certain parks, or even in certain sections if parks. Although once a photog has been "officially" trained in a shot, it is in their computer to access, even if they are in an area where is cannot be used. That is why quality control reviews the shots to kick out not only the ones that are "bad," but also to ensure that the photopass photographers are following their procedures. Big bummer!

She did not ride it again, but that was just fine!
We had planned to attend a DVC presentation (just out of curiousity), IF they offered us a “good” incentive. (We had no interest in fast passes…we were looking for $! ) Sometime on Monday, we had struck up a conversation with a DVC rep in our lobby, and answered the “right” way to get him to offer $50 gift cards each for attending. SOLD! I had also planned to use the DVC transportation as way to avoid inconvenient WDW transportation. Having not yet been to DTD when I scheduled our day, I chose this DHS day (remember we found the boats very slow!). Since this was another EMH evening, and TSMM was now closed, we were in no rush to get there early.
As soon as I awoke, I headed right out our patio door to the laundry room by the quiet pool. The rest of the family was still slumbering sweetly.
I planned to do laundry this trip, but I did not expect to run out of clothes so quickly. With the heat and the hotel breaks, we all changed clothes frequently. My DS inexplicably ran out of clothes by this day! (When we returned home, we found a stack of mostly his clothes meant to be packed but put in a closet while cleaning up before company one day…ooops…)
Anyway…I arrived to find 3 open washing machines (of 4? 6? At least one was out of order…). I quickly filled them and was glad I got started as soon as I awoke that morning as the laundry room became a popular place! The first few people were patient and cooperative as I gave them the “machine status.” I met someone from Great Britain, and someone from the southeast, both of whom were frequent WDW visitors. They were fun to chat with. Later hopeful laundresses were more irritable. Apparently, all laundry rooms at the BC and YC were full with lines!
Laundry at WDW comments: It was great to do laundry, and I will plan for that next time and pack even less. I brought those Purex 3-in-1 sheets. Although I was thrilled with the convenience, they seemed to leave spots on much of our clothes that did not go away until we washed them at home. I will bring other supplies next time. The dryers indicated they would run for 20 minutes. Although I did not time them, it was MUCH longer than that. I chose the coolest setting (which was still VERY hot—too hot for some of the items!) and I was able to dry 3 washers full of clothes in 2 dryers.
When DH and the kids awoke, we ate breakfast in the room and hung out in the quiet pool while I finished the laundry. Have I mentioned how great our room location was? So great!!!
After the chores, we got ready and caught our ride to the DVC presentation about 11:30.
I do not remember the name of our tour guide. He was great and I am certain he had high hopes for his time with us—as I already seemed to know so much about DVC. It was fun to get the information, and walk longingly through the models…but as soon as he realized there was absolutely no way we could make the leap, he started talking really fast! LOL! (I was also expecting a better “enticement.” I think they said they would throw in an extra year of points, and shave $8 off the points, but we still needed the full down payment, and the 160 minimum point buy-in. I had heard of some people being offered down payment assistance and lowering the initial buy-in…that may have gotten us a bit more interested…)
The kids could not wait to get out of the play area. Although I was hoping they would also see it as a fun diversion, they were bored.
We stopped in the ice cream parlor. They did not have a good option for Delaney, Ben does not like ice cream (and was eager to get to DHS), and Hannah was making a mess, so we cut that part short and caught our ride to DHS.
Ben was eager to get to Star Tours and see the Jedi Training Academy. The training Academy was closed during our last visit because of rain, so we did not have a good understanding of how it worked. All we knew was the next (and last) show time. Our driver also informed us that Star Tours was now down for refurb. I disagreed with her, she insisted she was there a few days ago and it was “final day” before being shut down. I looked on my LINES app and told her the wait time it listed. She said those things are often wrong. I checked another site which did not list it among the closed attractions during this time—just TSMM. I gave up trying to convince her and I was hoping she was wrong!
Door to gate transportation is a dream! (Although if I knew how annoying the bus ride from BC to AK/DTD would be at the time we signed up for the tour, we would not have chosen this for a DHS day!)
It was about 2:30. The next Jedi Training show was at 3:15. We hoped to make it….
Thanks for all the info on the laundry. I usually do laundry while there and was thinking of using the Purex sheets. Now I won't. I don't want spots on my clothes. Your dryers must be much better than the ones I have used at CSR and CBR b/c I always have to run them at least through 2 cycles per load and they still are not completely dry. Hoping the dryers at POP will be better.
YAY! for the $150 gift cards. I would love to buy into DVC, but there are other things we need first and hubby would never hear of it. How long did your tour take? Did you think it was worth doing for the $$?
I hope Ben makes it to the Jedi Training. My oldest did it on our last trip and she LOVED it. The youngest cried the whole time after b/c she wanted to do it, but was too shy to go up. I try to tell her that if you act shy, you often miss out on a lot of fun things. Hopefully, this trip she will be more outgoing.

.
We actually got 2-$50 ($100 total) gift cards. Sorry if I mis-keyed something.
We spent about 2 hours total from pickup to ice cream. I think it could have been less if I did not have so many darned questions! Although DVC is not an option for us now, It interests me greatly and I wanted all the info. Definitely worth our reward, especially considering we were in the world for 10 days, and we got the direct transport to a park. DH and I also saw it as out only time together away from our kids. (We are getting pretty pathetic in what we call a "date"! LOL!)
Glad you were able to go to the DVC presentation, while know is not the time having the information does help when that right time does come up and some gift cards aren't so bad either Hope that you were able to make the Jedi tour.

You didn't miskey, I made that number up, I guess. lol Crazy me!
I would love to buy into DVC too. It's a little confusing for me to wrap my head around, so maybe a tour would be good, but I know hubby would say, "no way", although, I like the idea of considering it a date. Sounds like our idea of a "date night" falls in line with yours. LOL!!
Just caught up. I commend your DH for his patience.
For future reference the absolute worst thing you can do on Mission Space is close your eyes. If you keep focused on the screen, you will not get motion sickness. When you close your eyes, you lose your focal point and even those not prone to motion sickness will get dizzy. It's like when a ballerina does pirouettes, they use a focal point to keep from getting dizzy.
I am a motion sickness sufferer and have done the non-spinning version many times without a problem.

I just got all caught up - sounds like an awesome trip.
Thankfully for us, although our DD sounds much like your DD, we are able to use Kid's Night Out, and get a few hours to ourselves each trip. I think she feels she needs a break from us and she does like to be in charge so if she can 'help' someone new with DS she feels in charge.
Can't wait for more!
