Our First Trip, MY First TR!!! (Dec. 2010) - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Keith, I am lovin' your energy and your organizational skills. You sound like a fellow Disney nut, all right! Your plans sound great, and you seem like the kind of person who can still "go with the flow" if some things take longer than you'd thought (like meals). You're sure to have a great time.
Having just returned from WDW and my first breakfast at Kona, I can heartily recommend Tonga Toast (stuffed with bananas and topped with strawberry compote). Delish!
Bon appetit!
.
Thanks for the Great compliment!
Organizational skills I didn't know I had until I started planning this trip! It's uncanny. My family thinks I am insane. I'm just so excited! I feel like the Little boy in that commercial... "I'm too excited to sleep!!!"
The way I look at it is this: It's Disney World, If I can't enjoy myself, no matter what's happening, I probably am doing something wrong! My life motto is Go With The Flow, though I am not the most spontaneous person if there are already plans laid out. Unless I'm the one making the change. lol

Last Thursday I got my DME mail. It's all coming together. I'm wondering if there's anything else on its way to me. This is the first time I've been in charge of a trip. I'm not sure what they send out and if I've gotten everything yet.
I started looking into a This day in Disney History type of thing to do a count down for Me and Beth, with interesting facts and I got hooked. I figure I'll pull up one fact for each of the days we have left for our trip and make it pertain to us or our trip in some way.
Today is 31 days out, so here's an example of what I found.
November 1, 1991 Disney released Fantasia on VHS and Laserdisc. Beth and I both love Fantasia, and Sorcerer Mickey is one of our favorite Disney Icons.
This is the type of interesting info that I'll be sending Beth in a Text message every day. I'll also be posting here every day with the days interesting fact. Unless people complain about it. hehe
Your plans sound great! I am now very hungry after reading about your meal plans. I hope you have lots of fun touring the parks. I will certainly enjoy your count down. Not only will I get intersting facts, but it will also mean that my family's trip will be closer too. Thanks for sharing!
On November 2, 2001 Monsters Inc. was first released! It was Pixar's 4th Animated Feature and at the time it was my favorite! "Mike Wazowski! Mike Wazowski!" I wish there were more Monsters Inc attractions, because I don't think we'll be able to make the Laugh Floor on our trip this December.
As an added bonus, Monsters Inc. 2 is scheduled to be released on November 2, 2012! According to the Wikipedia Article I read...

I'm thinking that after my trip is all said and done I won't be hungry for a week! We have so many meals planned! I only hope that we'll be walking around so much it evens out! I'm actually going to go over what makes my mouth water on those menus soon.
I hope my facts are all interesting to others. They looked interesting to me. I hope you enjoy them too!

On November 3 1977 one of my favorite movies when I was a kid was released.
Petes Dragon
I loved that movie. I loved that they lived in Pasamaquoddy and that Elliot was a big green cartoon dragon that most people couldn't see. I loved that Mickey Rooney's character was always Drunk, even in the morning. My sister and I must have watched that movie weekly at one point. It doesn't really have anything to do with this trip, but It's a piece of my childhood that I thought was cool.
Also, in 1950 the Goofy cartoon Hold That Pose was released. Goofy tries to get a photo of a Grizzly Bear. I remember this cartoon and I can tell you. it's funny! I'm a self Proclaimed Goofy Fanatic, so that may cloud my judgment, but still. I loved it.
28 Days! 4 weeks Exactly! I have to start packing! OMG!!!
November 4 was a pretty slow day in the History of Disney. My Fact is actually a very recent one.
in 2009 on November 4 Disney got approval to build an Amusement Park in Shanghai. Not the best or Most interesting of facts, But It matters to me because I'm stating here for the first time, I will go to that park once it is open. I want to make it to every Disney Theme Park at least once in my lifetime. I hope Beth is on the same page with that. Hehe.
In other Nov. 4th news, Walter Cronkite was born on Nov. 4. He was the narrator of Spaceship Earth for a while. At least the two times I went on it in 1988 and 1992 he was. That's one of the rides that I told Beth that we have to do this time around because it's been 18 years since I've been on it.

I'm pretty sure the Dragon's name is Elliot. Pete's the boy who he shows himself to. I wish I was seeing that parade, but we're going to MK on a Party night. No Electrical Parade that night. The next night I think they're filming, but we'll be in Epcot for Illuminations anyway... But I do remember it from when I was a kid.

I am pretty sure that float is in the Electrical Parade, not SpectroMagic. But I could be wrong.
