A seed was planted and here’s what grew....Magical Memories - Page 6 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Wow - you all sure had a busy first day! We love the mini-golf - hope we get a chance to play this next trip! And I'd love to try the balloon ride at DTD too! It's great they were able to fix your bed problem - it sure makes for a miserable vacation when you can't get any sleep or you're too sore to move after a night in a mushy bed!

Glad you had a great first day and were able to get a new bed as well! Great pictures too! And thanks for increasing the size of the font for the next update. If increasing it in your document doesn't work, when you copy and paste it into the text box, while everything is still highlighted, go to the drop down near the top of the text box and you can also change the size of the font there. If you need help, let me know!

Thanks Marnie - not only for your comments but for your offer of help. I'm hoping changing the font in my document will help but I won't know until I post it and people respond. On my screen, all my posts in this thread are the same size so I was surprised to learn my updates are fairly small in regards to the font. Does anyone have any idea how (or why) that can happen?

Not sure why, but when I write my trip reports in Word, I bump them up a size to 3 (not sure if I use 10 or 12 size in Word) to make it more easier to read. But your last update was so small, I'm not sure what happened there. If you want, I can go in and see if I can increase the font size for that update. Just let me know!

Okay, I use an ancient word processor (Arkose works) and I know for a fact my font size in there is 12. It's the default size and I never make it smaller. For my next update, I'll keep it at that but bump it up to a 3 on here and see if that helps. I'll also go and edit my other 2 posts and see if that helps them. If it doesn't, I'll be at a loss and I'd appreciate any help at that point in time.
You know what I think is the most confusing part about all of this? I know all I did was copy and paste for my PTR this year and I'm pretty sure that's all I did for the PTR and TR from the previous two year but all of those are okay - no one ever said they were too small. I wonder why it's happening now?
Okay - I just edited my posts #1 and #61 - are they easier to read? I put them to the size and type font that comes up by default when I post here. Did it help??

I always forget about it and when I do the preview, I have to go back and change my font to size 3 just to make it look normal
How wonderful that you got a brand new mattress set!

Its funny that I cannot remember what part of the train that Kristy worked on........I'd like to say she went through the cars. Her boyfriend(later husband) worked in the dining car. He was working the steam table when the train derailed north of Sanford years ago.........won several $k from his injury.
She had made a lot of friends working on that train. Several of them switched their shifts to come to her funeral 6 years ago.
I reading about trains, I find them very fascinating.
Working on the train - cool. Train derailment - not so cool . I'm sorry he got hurt and I'm very sorry to hear your niece passed away. But I am glad that you enjoy reading my TR, especially about the train.

Thanks, other than a few sprinkles here and there which bothered Abby way more than us, it was really a great day.

I was so excited when I heard we were arriving early - it really started my day off on the right foot and the new mattress set ended it on that same high note. Thanks about the pictures.

Glad the keys for your room worked right the first time, when I read your were checking into your hotel I thought "oh no, let's not have a repeat of the key problem from last year".
It's also nice to see that Disney is so accommodating to their guests with disabilities. I'm happy you got a mattress that would work for Lenny and not leave him sore and miserable in the morning!
Can't wait to hear more!
Thanks. I'm glad you're enjoying it and that some of my info is actually helpful. When I write it up, I'm always hopeful that some of what we did or saw will help others so it's really nice to know it is.
Believe it or not, I had a flashback to last years keys as well and it wasn't pretty but thankfully it was very brief. And when the keys worked the first time it was such a huge relief to me (so again, just another magical thing happening on Monday).
As for the mattress, I was actually shocked when they said they'd switch it out. I figured we'd get bed boards easily enough but I never expected more than that. When Melissa came by and said they could do more I was floored. Before that, I was really starting to think that Lenny would have to sleep on one of the double beds as they were much firmer than the old king but it would have been kind of uncomfortable for Lenny's size.

You shouldn't have any more problems Joanne - I went back and changed the font and size.

I have to say I am really impressed that Disney changed the bed for you. That is amazing and I really can't believe that would happen anywhere else. Understandably it was for medical reasons, but you know any other hotel would have been like - oh well we can put the boards in, but that's all we can do.
Also - its always amazing how depending on the cm involved you can have amazing things happen or really frustrating experiences. Glad they took care of you.
Font and size have been taken care of. We're not sure what it's from though
You're right - I don't think anyplace else would have cared enough to keep us happy. I know at one point in time Melissa even offered to switch our rooms but when she learned we had the connecting room that's when the mention of the new bed came in. So maybe that's why. Under normal circumstances, you could switch one room for another but when there's a very small percentage of connecting rooms, especially in the preferred section we paid for, how possible is it to switch? Now that I think about it, most likely not very possible. But whatever the reason, she definitely came through and really started our vacation off with a huge dose of Disney magic.

It's unbelievable really that we got a new bed but like I said above, it could have been because of the circumstances more than anything - we needed connecting rooms and they might not have been able to move us. But whatever reason, it was purely Disney in our opinions.

Yes it can - and very quickly but this year it didn't. It was wonderful to go to bed every night and feel like I was at home.
And as I mentioned, the font size should be all set now.

I loved your pictures of Toon Town. I really hope it is still open when we are there in October. It's bad enough that Small World will be closed because I know my DGD would have loved it.
Abby looks happy in the pictures and I think Lenny enjoyed seeing the fairies especially Tink.
The only small problem I am having with your TR is the size of the font. I am having trouble reading it. I don't know if it just my computer but it's really small, but I will read on no matter what .
Thanks Olive. We had a great day and we definitely got Disney service the entire trip, not just Monday (but you'll have to wait for that ). Here's some that Toon town is still open for you (and the Disney decides NOT to close it).
Seeing the Fairies was what Abby wanted to do first before anything else and she was so happy once we got in there. And Lenny's happy because Tink said something about his scooter so he mentioned how he fixed different things on it and then he showed off Abby's hat that he fixed. He loves talking about things he's been able to fix so Tink certainly fed into it with some of her comments that I heard.
And I'm glad to know no matter the size of the font, you'll stay with me but I promise the rest will be bigger and easier to read.

Love all the little magic moments even the mousekeeping ones! I can't EVER get my bed as neat as a hotel one either...grrr.
Thanks Chantel. When all is said and done, it WAS the right choice to go this year. The train being early and the new bed started it off right, but the magic really continued the entire trip. And I can't ever get my bed that neat either but then again I don't have to show it off either

Glad you were able to sleep well on your vacation.
Thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying it. The new bed was awesome but I hear you on squeaky ones - they annoy me too.

I don't think it was quite so busy as it was long but if nothing else, Lenny was able to get his nap in which definitely helped him out. The balloon ride was definitely a should try it once type of thing. Unfortunately (for us at least) the cost is up there and at this point in time, I don't know if it will last or not as even when we left, there were only a couple more people buying tickets. I would have thought there would have been some sort of line for it considering the weather was so nice. We've had somewhat soft beds before but none were ever as bad as that one was - and we were very glad it was fixed as well.

Thanks - we did have a great first day and actually there's only one thing that beats the perfectly made bed and it's a comfortable one, which the first mattress wasn't - not even to sit on.

Print is so much easier to read. Now I am waiting for the next installment
Great. Now that's all straightened out, I'm going to do the next post right now but it's going to be a few minutes before I can post it. I gotta add all my pictures and that takes a few minutes.
