Taggin' Along Compliments of Disney! - Page 9 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! Too funny about having Hope for the finale of Grey's and that being the only night she was in the nursery. We had Dylan sent to the nursery every night.
And I agree about not worrying too much about the headphones. When Dylan was 20 months we played the DVD player without headphones on the plane and just kept the volume low - I doubt anyone ever heard it. I did buy 'kids' headphone for him, but he wouldn't wear them. He does now with the itouch though, but I think that's because I can reason with him more now that he understands stuff better.
There's no reasoning with her right now but hopefully I can use that tactic soon. She definitely wouldn't keep headphones on. I used to brag because I thought I had the special girl who would let me put bows and barretts in her hair and she wouldn't try to take them out...completely different story now!

Going back to the airport on DME last Dec, Josie was on my lap watching an episode of Little Einsteins on the Iphone. Now granted the DME is not as nosiy as an airplane can be and dosen't drown out most noises, but we had the phone at a really low volume that was in no way offensive to other passengers. Well this woman sitting behind us said " What is that? I hear an annoying little kids voice" OMG, really you witch?? You are lucky my DD was sitting on me, otherwise I would have stood up and got a little Jersey on her you know what.
Again, people, would you rather have a screaming crying kid OR the sound of sweet Annie singing with her friends????
What's that "Golden Rule" again.............don't have anything nice to say, say nothing at all..................
You had me laughing imagining the Jersey coming out. Yeah, I'm hoping it doesn't come to that since I have nooo Jersey in me so who knows what would be unleashed. Plus, you are in Disney so you're bound to hear little kid's voices right when you step on the bus anyway!

Another Grey's fan here. Counting the days to the premiere.
Grey's fans unite! Can't wait to see what happens this season.

Thanks for reading the other TR. It seems so long ago looking at those pictures, but it was just the beginning of this year. Time really does fly and after this trip, the next time we visit will be right before she turns the big 3...as much as I want to be in Disney World, I don't want her to keep growing up.

Mind you Skyler & I haven't flown on a plane since he was still under a year old, but books, rattles, and other small toys have helped me keep my little Mr. on the Go well entertained in my lap on planes. Now I will say we did once fly during the Super Bowl (Pats vs. Giants) on Jetblue and everyone was so tuned into the Super bowl and didn't hear Skyler as miserable as can be because of severe ear pressure. The Flight Attendants were constantly checking on us and doing everything to help me soothe him.
Hopefully you don't run into anything like a long flight delay like my dad did with my brother because the President(President Clinton at the time) was traveling tonthe same destination
As thy were and stuck on the tarmack in their depature city for 3-4 hours. I can tell you my brother was always very well behaved and still is on planes and well entertained with just a few pieces of train tracks and a few trains, but the only person he ever annoyed on a plane was Bob Vila by dumping ice on him for rude remarks he made about my brother. Everyone else loved him helping the flight attendants passing out ice just to use up his energy. Tons of pixies you don't get Bob Vila next toyou or someone who doesn't like children.
That's a great idea about the magnadoodle! I might have to look into that as well. With all these great ideas I can see us now carrying a huge toybox on the plane because I went out and got everything that was suggested. I think if I was stuck on a plane for 3-4 hours I would loose my mind. No way do I want to be in that situation. Nor do I think anyone else does either.

People in general are really understanding, with the exception of the few idiots who can't realize what's going on - even though in general, they're the same people who answer their cell phone in a movie theater
I don't have a high tolerance for annoying children either. Especially the one's who are bad on purpose and the parents let them do whatever they want, but now I try to always look at the situation before I get aggravated, and some people just don't do that. You're right, they are the one's that use cell phones at the movies....don't even get me started on people like this. It all goes back to being curteous and treating others the way you want to be treated.

My dad was supposed to get the DVD player out last night for me to check out. As long as Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is one of those DVDs we're A-ok! As for the color wonder stuff...just another thing for me to check out.

I dont have children so I have nothing to recommend to help her out sorry! I just myself see kids with many little snacks and DVD players and books, etc. Honestly when I'm flying to Disney I love to see little ones excitement and i Know they are so tired of being on that plane
Plans sound great....What are you guys going to do the day you land? I would take advantage of the pool and DTD if I were you
I don't know what happened. I never saw your TR until today - but all caught up now.
Everything looks great. I love traveling with my mom too. There is that special bond between mothers and daughters.
Congrats on BCV and free tickets.
Don't worry about the flight. Bring lots of snacks and activities. I too vote for a DVD player.
You are right in the fact the Ducks tour accident was in Philly. It was a huge story here and the boats are still not running. They are hoping to get them back up and into a different river - still very tragic.
I love the new siggie pic too. I should have realized when you changed it that you had started your new report. Duh!
Dawn - don't forget Fort McHenry in Baltimore - really cool.

Hmmm...sounds like you've been sneaking a peek at my plans. I may just be doing what you suggested. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Can't wait for the new update.
Don't worry about it. I'm glad you could join us. I needed to update that sig pic so I figured why not do it with one of the photos I just had taken. It worked out perfectly! I can't wait for this trip either and it seems like everything is falling right into place for us.
This is the saddest part of the report…so far I only have one ADR for this quickie trip, yes, you read it right, ONE! Originally we weren’t going to book any ADRs with the whole idea of saving money. Okay, so that never really works out does it??? We all say we’re going to do it, but does it every really happen? My mom and I talked about only doing CS meals this time, but then I got to reading everyone else’s reports and I started thinking about booking something…anything!
I love to eat out. I love going to restaurants and not only enjoying the food, but the atmosphere as well, and I knew I couldn’t go to Disney without making one ADR. It's like a sickness! So, with that I decided that we should try something new, and since breakfast is my favorite meal of the day I went ahead and booked breakfast at Kona Café. After seeing photos of the Pineapple Macadamian Pancakes I knew it had to be done, so here is what we have so far…
Thursday: Arrival Day (Stormalong Bay & DTD)…you were right Crissy!
Lunch – Hurricane Hannah’s at Stormalong Bay since that’s where we’ll be hanging out.
Dinner – Earl of Sandwich (this is a must when we go to WDW)
Friday: Magic Kingdom Day
Breakfast – Kona Café at 7:45am. I’m hoping we can make it to MK in time for rope drop, but I’m not going to rush through this delicious meal.
Lunch – Probably CS at Columbia Harbor House
Dinner – Casey’s??? I guess it depends on where we are at the time, but I have a craving for one of those hotdogs right now!
Snack – Milkshake from Beaches & Cream
Saturday: Epcot Day
Breakfast – I was trying my hardest to get ADRs for the Cape May Café character breakfast, but they are all booked up. They do have availability at the Captain’s Grill at the YC, but I’m not sure how that is. We may just head on over to the Boardwalk Bakery and enjoy something over there while sitting outside.
Lunch – Chocolate Mousse Cake in Norway. Yes, chocolate cake for lunch! This is a tradition that must not be broken.
Dinner – Tutto Italia, but at the outdoor seating area where you don’t need an ADR to get in. This was something we just stumbled across on one of our visits, and we’ve enjoyed eating there ever since.
Snack - Milkshake at Beaches & Cream (do you see a pattern forming?)
Sunday: Departure Day
Breakfast – Probably at the Marketplace
Lunch – Fast food at the airport
Dinner - Me cooking at home
So this is it…looks a little depressing doesn’t it? If it doesn’t work out for our breakfast ADRs on our Epcot day, than we’ll be okay, but I was hoping that something would become available. And of course these dining plans aren’t set in stone. We may end up doing something completely spontaneous since we are hanging with other people…me and spontaneous don’t mix well, but we’ll see how I do.
Plus I plan on partaking in a couple of adult beverages while strolling around WS. Especially at the new tequila bar in Mexico and in France…a Grand Marnier Slushie has my name written all over it.

I think your dinning options sound GREAT! I wouldn't change a thing. I'm not a huge fan of CS, but I think you have some excellent choices.
I have never eaten in Casey's but, they show black and white Mickey cartoons right? I hope to maybe snack there one day, Josie is all of a sudden into those old black and whites. Odd girl.
I would keep checking for Cape May Cafe. Even walking up and asking for availability if you can. There were 10 of us staying at the Poly one year, and every day we checked for an opening for Ohana breakfast. Don't ya know, our last morning there, they fit us in , no problem.
Great dining plans Melissa. The travel Magnadoodle we foud at Target and they make a pink one. Skyler's usually stays in the car for Football Season when we've gone out to watch Football games that aren't televised by us at a Family Friendly Sports Bar. It has been a godsend for Skyler. I'm sorry I'm making you feel like you need to vring a Toy Box for Hope. I'm only packing the toys that can fit into his backpack (which is being stuffed into a smaller duffle with his clothes and a pack of pull ups for the plane). I certainly wouldn't wish a 2-4 hour delay upon anyone, but it was just an example of a well behaved baby with that long of a delay. Also I just got in the mail today sonething I ordered off of the Inventive Parent Website for Skyler. Instead of a "baby leash" thing we had for Skyler that he didn't care foe too much, I found one that is beltbag type that one goes on Skyler and one on me (and this has 3 pockets on the adult one which I can fit my camera, wallet, and phone in) and it just hooks onto the child one letting him go as far as 5 feet away. I got his in the tiger pattern. Jeff (disney on the boards) highly recommended it as he's used it with his own kids. The kid belt bag can fit a small toy or small size snack to help keep them occupied in the lines. I don't know if somethig like that may work for you with Hope for her need to walk, but still have her close to you.
Your plans look great! I'm planning a pool day for us too....and HH looks like a great lunch spot! I think the Kona breakfast is a great choice too (though we've only done dinner at Kona). We CMC for dinner, but breakfast looks like so much fun! We are trying Capts Grille for dinner. I've read lots of great dinner reviews, but haven't heard how breakfast is there. Of course, I'm sold on the milkshakes at B&C!
We've never tried EoS, Casey's, CHH, or the chocolate cake in Norway
Ok.....now that I've read your dining plans, I'm beginning to question mine....again!
