Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Back to school

Okay all you parents, kids & teachers.. when do you go back to school??
For us it's August 28.. only 3 weeks from today! on one hand I'm saying Where did our Summer go? ( HA! I know that answer~Baseball!!) & then when the kids are really on my last nerve I say " Aug 28h can't come soon enough"
I also found out last week that my friend & co-worker is having major surgery on her back & won't be back at work for the start of school..& for probably a couple months afterward (we are the only 2 cafeteria aides at the school) AARGH!!!! I dread starting the new year with a sub... especially when we've got to 'orient' the first graders. Fortunately, I can veto any choice of sub & get to pick who I want to work with... (at least I hope that's the way it works, I'd dread working with some of the subs we had last year!)
I keep saying to myself that's it's only 1-1/2 hrs a day.. I can handle it!!!

I "officially" go back tomorrow but of course I've been working on setting up my classroom for days now!

The kids go back next Wednesday, the 14th.

Summer can't be over - I haven't been to WDW!!!

Re: Back to school

It does seem to me that they make the kids go back earlier every year and let them out later. We go back on Aug. 28 (used to be the day after Labor Day) and they don't get out next spring until the 12th of June. (used to be the day after Memorial Day which used to always be May 31-showing my age here ) They initiated these longer years after a couple of winters in which the kids got a lot of snow days off and almost had to add days at the end. Of course, since then, we haven't had a snow of more than 4 inches that lasted more than a day.
We haven't had any days off for weather in the last three years at least.
The school years still end the same...as the kids run out the door the teacher yells after them "World War II ended, we won!" (courtesy of "The Simpsons")

Re: Back to school

Well I live in Alabama and teach in GA. Kids in Alabama went back to school this week. But I don't go back to work until Monday, Aug. 12 and the kids come back Monday, Aug. 19. So I have another week and a half before kids, but only 4 more days before I go back.

Re: Back to school

I'll have to look it up on the kid's report cards, but I think they go back Aug.27th. Of course, they didn't get out of school until June 25th. And we never have snow days!

I'm enjoying summer holidays with my kids, but they are old enough now that they sleep in til noon and go to bed hours after I do (which will be coming to a screeching halt soon!) So basically I only have them around for the afternoon and evening!

Re: Back to school

Ariel starts school on Aug. 20. We live in a different district than Ron teaches in, so he doesn't have to report until Aug. 26, and his kids won't be there until Sept. 3.

Re: Back to school

My DD's start school on September 4th. The teachers report on September 3rd (contractually the teachers can't report before September 1st.)

I start school on September 3rd so DH is taking the day off to spend one last day w/the girls before the merry go round begins again. I registered for classes and will be there on Tuesday afternoons & Wednesday evenings. Yea!

Re: Back to school

We go back Sept 3rd! The local fair runs on Labor Day weekend, from Wednesday through Monday, and all the 4H competitions would have no one in them if school were in session - most other districts in NH start the Wednesday before, etc. My youngest will turn 6 on her first day of first grade, it's the first time that has happens since the day she was born six years ago - That was her actual due date, and I told my doctor the one day I did NOT want to have her was that day, as my other daughter started first grade that day, and I wanted to take her to her class, and celebrate her day with her. The best laid plans ...

We get out on the 17th of June next year - this year we got out even earlier - the 13th I think. We are required to run at least 180 days, but they run all the teacher's workshops in the summer before school starts, so we take fewer days off during the year - we still get two spring breaks - Feb and April - so the kids get enough time off.

I start back Sept 3. I am so looking forward to going back. I am enrolled full time this semester instead of the part time I have been doing for the last 2 years.

Re: Back to school

My son starts school on Thursday, Sept. 5th. We still have almost a month of summer left. I can't believe how many of you start in August!! That never happens in NJ. But he doesn't get out of school until June 24th. Unless we have no snow and they give back the built-in snow days and then it could be anywhere from June 20th to the 24th.

Re: Back to school

My girls start school on September 3rd this year. This is later then normal because they are building 3 new elementarty school buildings and the district wanted to make sure that there was enough time to have them completed before the beginning of the school year. I think the last day is suppose to be around June 17th.

Re: Back to school

I had to look go look this up on our disrtict website:

We go back August 20th for our free donuts.

Student orientation for Kindergarten, grades 1, 6 and 9, and all new students is on August 26.

All students report August 27 to non-airconditioned buildings.

Students last day is June 5 and our last day is June 6.

Our district is implementing a Fall Break this year for the first time from Oct. 28 -Nov. 1. Students will have the full week, but we have inservice days on Mon and Tues that week. What the purpose of a Fall Break is is beyond my comprehension.

Re: Back to school

Depends on which school
the 18 year old starts on August 26th, (college)
The 9 yro started summer school this Monday, goes for 2 weeks, has 2 weeks off, then starts for good on August 28th (this school also has no early dismissals or half days)
the 4 yro- ?? the parent meeting at the preschool is not even scheduled until August 28th, and then we will find out, Probably the second week of Sept.
