My first solo adventure - Disney style!! - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Reading this update has definitely made me hungry. We had most of the same food items on our walk through the F&WF last October. Would love to be going again!
Great food and wine update! We loved the food at S. Africa too. I'm also a huge fan of S. African wines and was glad to see the booth had a variety of options! The day we had the beef skewer from Argentina the sauce was so salty it was inedible. I love reading your thoughts! We tried almost all of the offerings in October and are looking forward to this October too!
Bummer that one was too salty when you guys had it. Hey - have a great time on your trip coming up!!!

Good thing I was hungry or I couldn't have eaten that much!
Here's a photo of the jacket I bought with that birthday fun card:
And a close up:
It also came in opposite colors, white with black inside and a black silouhette of Mickey.

Day Four, Tuesday November 3, part 3 – relaxing at Epcot
Again, it had probably been since 1990 that I had seen the American Adventure show. And I don’t even know if I had ever heard the Voices of Liberty before! Shocking, yes. So it was really nice to take it down a notch and leisurely see some otherwise passed up attractions.
I do remember going through the Japan store as a kid, but not since I’ve gone back as a grown-up. I knew Hello Kitty was big over there, but didn’t realize they’d have such a huge selection of stuff here at Epcot!! This would definitely be a shopping spot for DD6 on our March trip! I easily knocked out at least an hour or more by strolling and browsing around the shops in Japan, Morocco, and France. Morocco blows me away every time. Each time I wander around, I swear they’ve added another passageway or shop! Love it! And I usually pass up the France perfume shop but I had forgotten about that stained glass window in there. Beautiful. And I love the France film, as old as it may be, it still shows off their beautiful country very nicely. Plus, you get to sit!
Feeling ready for some dessert, I had a tough decision to make now. I wanted that milk chocolate crème brulee the other day, but I decided to go a little different route and just went to the France Patisserie for their Lemon Tart instead. It was a very nice and refreshing dessert and Oh So Good!!!
The sun was starting to set and that always makes for great pictures on the giant golfball, so I headed up that-a-way for some nice night shots. And since I was right there, I went ahead and rode SSE too. This is when I finally took some time to see all that there is to play and do in that exit area. There’s some good time to kill in there!
I believe I probably used my FP for Soarin’ at this point and then headed over to ride Test Track. I had heard it’s more fun at night so why not? Single rider again, score! It was pretty fun at night, but nothing beats BTMRR at night!
Anyway, it was about 8pm and I thought it best to sit and rest (my hips were still achy) and claim a spot for Illuminations. Haven’t seen this since 2003. I made one more F&WF stop at the Dessert booth for a Strawberry Shortcake and found an open spot on a bench. I quietly sang “Happy Birthday” to myself and blew out an imaginary candle. What a dork!
My DH called me to wish me a happy birthday, so I gave up the coveted bench spot so as not to bore the others in the area with my conversation. I told him all I had been doing, and that the flowers sent to my room were so thoughtful and I was so excited to be here! Only next time, I’d like to do a solo trip with him. Not so solo, if you know what I mean!!
After hanging up, I saw that my bench spot was taken so I found different spot near the Friendship Docks and plopped down on the ground to wait for about 30 minutes. I had forgotten how special this show is! Very moving, and very bright! Love it, just love it and I can’t wait to see it again with my family! I scooted away as the finale was starting and noticed that they change the lights on the giant golfball after Illuminations. This was new to me since we usually travel with the kids and we usually don’t stay this late. I was so very glad I had gotten my picture with the regular lights earlier!
Even though I was alone, I still thought this was a fantastic way to celebrate my birthday. I had a great day and really learned the art of slowing down the pace and soaking it all up. It was magical, for lack of a better word!
Coming up: My last full day, and really taking it easy!

Will you be back for the F&WF this year?? I'm so excited, even though we're only going to be there for 2 days. Thanks for reading along!
I have a busy evening ahead, so I'll try to post another (lengthy) update after the kids go to bed tonight!

Day Five, Wednesday November 4, part 1 – sleep? What is that?
My spreadsheet had called for an early start at Epcot, but my tired body decided otherwise. I decided to sleep in and did not even set an alarm clock! Even when I try to sleep late, it still doesn’t work out to be much later than 8am though. Unfortunately, that’s about as late as I can get! So I took my time showering and getting ready for the day and took a nice leisurely stroll around the resort.
It really is a beautiful theme they have going on there!
I had some Froot Loops and a Danish for breakfast, then filled up on my caffeine for the morning, and decided to head on over to Epcot.

Since I was still there fairly early, about 10am, I decided to park amongst the common folk rather than the Diamond parking and still scored a close spot, in about the 8th row if I’m correct. I’m not exactly sure what I did that particular morning, but pretty sure I rode Living with the Land. I always like to see what they have growing in their greenhouse. I’m also pretty sure I spent some time exploring all that Innoventions has to offer since I usually don’t get to do that. Then I took some time to stop and smell the roses. Really! I walked along the rose path and smelled a few!
At the end of the path, I found myself in front of Santiago, Chile and San Juan, Puerto Rico. So I ordered up my next snacks of:
Dulce de Leche cookies (Chile)
and Ham Croquettes (PR).
At first the croquettes almost tasted like an egg roll and I liked it. But after the first one, I quickly lost interest. I think I was just in more of a sweet mode with those cookies just begging to be eaten, so eat them I did! Oh. My. They were sooooo good! I was ready to go back and get more but decided against it. Besides, a Friendship boat had just pulled up in front of the bench I was sitting on so I saw that as a sign to move on!
