My first solo adventure - Disney style!! - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I turned 36 this year and I feel 60, with all my knee, back and arthitis pains. I totally understand where you are coming from. Glad you were able to get some new sneakers to try and subdue some of that pain.
It's kinda sad, isn't it??

The shoes made a world of difference, night and day! I just read that the Dessert party was extended through December......

Day Four, Tuesday November 3, part 2 – Mmmm, yum!!
By the time I pulled up to the Epcot parking lot (AAA diamond pass, btw. Forgot to mention I had some sweet parking spots on this trip!), I realized there was no way I could both sample F&WF and eat a sit-down meal at Chefs de France. So I called up Disney Dining and cancelled my lunch ADR. Bummer. Ah, yes. There’s always a next trip!
As I started walking in, my feet felt considerably better right away. What a difference proper support can make! Other people noticed too….. my bright white shoes stood out like you wouldn’t believe! It seemed that every person’s eyes that were walking towards me would instantly gravitate down towards the blinding white sneakers! I actually found it kind of funny. I didn’t care though; my feet were feeling better and I was ready to sample some yummy food on my birthday!
I’m pretty sure I stopped for a FP on Soarin’ and then headed over to my first country of the day – Argentina. I got the Grilled Beef skewer with Chimichurri sauce and Boniato Puree.
This was quite tasty! It was kind of hard to not have a knife to cut the meat, but I just didn’t want to have more stuff to hold. As I was eating it on a nice little bench over by where the flamingos used to be (you remember those flamingos everybody, right?), a nice older couple chatted up with me to see if they should sample it too. I told them to go for it since it was pretty darn good!
Onward to Poland! Here, I sampled the Kielbasa and Potato Pierogie with Caramelized onions and sour cream.
To me, sausage is sausage. So that was good. But I hadn’t had a pierogie in years, and it was pretty boring! But with the onions it added more flavor, so that worked. Overall, still worth it.
Next stop, China! It was hard picking here between the standard pot stickers or something a little different, the Chicken Urumqi. This is where it would have been nice to be with someone so I could have tried more foods by sharing. I went with the Pork Pot Stickers and was very thankful.
They came with a nice and sweet plum sauce (I think) and they were very good! Feeling a bit more in the mood to explore China, I went inside to see the little Warriors and watch the film.
I don’t think I’ve seen that film since probably 1990. I sure wish you could sit in there though! I browsed through the obligatory gift-shop-at-the-exit-of-the-film/attraction and moved on.
Up next was the hands down, best little dish ever. Cape Town, South Africa, had on their menu a Seared Beef Tenderloin with Sweet Potato Puree and Mango Barbecue sauce.
I had eyed this one up immediately as the menu lineup was released months ago and knew I’d be trying this one for sure. And it did not disappoint!! This was so lip-smackin’ good, it was all I could do to keep from licking the plate clean and going back for another one!! I truly considered it, but took a look at my guide and knew I had more food to try elsewhere. So I moseyed on along, but kept in mind that I could get another one the next day.
Next, I found myself in Australia for a Grilled Lamb Chop with Red Wine sauce. It was good, but after just having that tenderloin, it didn’t compare! I was starting to get filled up but still wanted a few more samples so I wandered around Germany a bit and really took some time in the shops. This is something I don’t normally get to do because the kids typically want everything they see in the stores, or just get extremely bored! So I really took my time seeing what was all on offer in Germany and Italy as well.
Continued.......

The beautiful Germany pavilion, one of my favorites!!!
And since I was right there, I went to the Italy booth to try the Cannelloni.
Not the best I’ve ever eaten, but since I’m a huge Italian food lover, I couldn’t really complain! I took some time out to eat on the stairs over by the water. I like to call this area Venice. And it was very peaceful. Only a handful of people wandered past for the next 15 minutes or so.
A little Italian food area they had set up near the pasta demonstration
I soooo wanted to grab an Italian margarita but thought it best to save my calories for more desserts now. I went back over to Germany to pick up an apple strudel and it was just perfect!
Being pretty full at this point, I decided to take a break from eating and catch the American Adventure show and take some serious time exploring Japan and France.
Coming up: A perfect ending for my birthday

Great food and wine update! We loved the food at S. Africa too. I'm also a huge fan of S. African wines and was glad to see the booth had a variety of options! The day we had the beef skewer from Argentina the sauce was so salty it was inedible. I love reading your thoughts! We tried almost all of the offerings in October and are looking forward to this October too!
Such a great birthday so far. I am glad you got some better shoes. I have done the same thing before and it is amazing the difference good shoes can make. The food all looks , you picked some good stuff! Can't wait to read more....
