iPad This Saturday! Who's Getting One? - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great work on adding your content to the iPad!! We will wait for the 3G version, but are not sure about the timing of the purchase due to the economy. We are excited, however, to take a close-up look at it and do plan to be at a nearby Apple Store tomorrow. We remember earlier in the decade when everyone said Apple was crazy for opening retail stores, then the iPod hit the market. Our DDs, 4 and 5, always make a beeline for the kiddie table to check out the software on them. We have been buying Macs since around the time of our first Disney trip in 1993; 17 years later, we still love our Disney trips and our Apple products.

Here I am, awake and getting ready to go to the Apple Store this morning to sneak a peek at the iPad. I am also waiting for the 3G model later this month, but for now I just want to see it. It's hard to explain why I'm excited about it (I mean, I have an iPhone and have many Mac computers). I think it's because I see the iPad as a new way to read books that more people will be embracing, and I like most things that involve books.
I just wish the PassPorter epub I worked so hard on would be in the iBook store today, but it seems it is being held up by red tape. Oh well! Soon it'll be there, and I can see a PassPorter on it, and that will be a good day. A bit like seeing your first published book in that first bookstore. I still remember that day clearly!

One of the things we think the iPad will be great for is traveling. DW is an avid photographer and this is a hobby we love to share -- DW behind the camera and me creating things from the photos. When flying, it is hard to open most laptops all the way when the person in front of you puts their seat all the way back. Additionally, there will be a camera connector kit that will allow you to download photos to the iPad; this sounds like a nice option rather than having to take many SD (or similar) cards. Jennifer, we can't wait to hear what you think after visiting the Apple Store and can't wait to get there later today to see for ourselves!!

WOW! I'm at my Apple Store and there are so many more people waiting than I expected! At least 300 when I showed up at 8:45 am. Very fun, very exciting! People are really into this.
Very cool Jennifer! I'm interested to hear about the iPad. I too like it for the ebooks and traveling. I just got an iTouch for my birthday and just it! So, we'll see about the iPad.
I couldn't wait for UPS to deliver mine on Monday so I hunted one down at Best Buy. Then got home to find out that UPS was nice enough to deliver it on a Sat!
I've been playing around on it all afternoon,it's definitely cool! Posting from it now in fact.
Can't wait to get the Passporter eBook! I'll have that for when we go to Disney in July
Don't have a lot to say about it right now, still figuring things out
One thing that I have noticed is that it sometimes has a lot of glare on the screen. Probably would not be able to use it outside in the sun.
If you have any questions I'll try to answer!
I've been playing on it pretty consistently since about 3:00 (about 7 hours ). I still have 60% of my battery left. I've been bouncing around though, not using one application for too long yet.
I feel like I have ADD right now there's so much to look at!
Sulley has been making references all day to the iPad...he's a Mac guy from the days of the Mac Plus, so you KNOW he's had every Apple product out there...he even got me an Apple GS back in the day.
I'm sure we will be getting a iPad, but he's not worried about the 3G....we have so many problems with connectivity with our iPhones and AT&T, we are hoping the rumors are true and there will be a Verison version of the iPhone out around Christmas.
I figure one will be showing up here in a few days.
I managed to stop in the apple store yesterday - DD#2 needed a new ipod case - so I of course ;^) stopped and played with one for a minute. As the owner of an iphone and a kindle I was a little surprised at the weight of the ipad. It was a little heavier than I anticipated.... but LOVED it as I knew I would. And then I had to leave ... I am holding out for the 3G version. I use the 3G on my iphone all the time and I think that it would drive me nuts to not have that functionality on the ipad - so I will wait. I know that I should wait for the 2nd generation but that won't happen. I have been able to skip generations on the iphone (had a 1st and then 3rd while skipping the 2nd and 3GS but will probably add the 4th) so I am planning on doing that with the ipad.
and Oh the possibilites for an interactive Passporter.... maps/menus/ADR's/wait times/photos ... oh my.

Well, Sulley got one! He came home from work today with it. I knew he would! I tried to get him to hold out for the 3G but he's so frustrated with AT&T he said it wasn't worth it to him. He said he would be using it where there was wifi and that was good enough.
We shall see.
I am just now beginning to talk dh into letting me get an I Phone!
Our contract with Verizon is month to month now and I am slowly talking him into letting me get an I Phone!
I don't think I better push the I Pad too!
Stephanie....I read that Verizon would not be getting the I Phone anytime soon. In fact, I just read an article that it would be at least until late 2011 or 2012 before that might happen.
Where did you hear that it would happen around Christmas?
