We were inspired by Samantha Brown's Carnival cruise so away we go! - Page 5 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I love the ship! And that balcony room is FAB! No chocolate on the pillows...say it isn't so! I got to eat all the chocolates from the pillows on our Disney trip because I couldn't take the chance on the boys having them because I didn't know where they were made. I only did it for the boys .
Love that they have tea on board. It can be like a pre-tea before you GF tea in October!!
Crissy, sorry but how did I miss your PTR so far? Sounds like you have a wonderful cruise planned. I haven't sailed with Carnival since I was 7 years old and the last cruise(we were on Celebrity Cruiseline) was 9 years ago and we hit most of the same ports you are(actually we sailed out of San Juan and didn't get to see much because our plane was so delayed). Your ship and itinnerary look great. You will love Antigua. I don't remember which beach we went to, but the beaches there are beautiful. Looking foward to more please.
I'm a little late but glad I found your TR! Plans sound fabulous and from your photos I'm thinking that my choice to try for East. Carib for our next cruise will be fabulous.
Wondering if you found Carnival to be a "party" ship ?? It certainly looks beautiful.
Thanks! I am getting more excited as the days go on!

This pesky thing is out of the way to find But so glad you did!
Yay! I glad to hear it from someone that's been on a similar trip....I am looking foward to Antigua just mostly because i've never been there before.
Eric's parents sailed with Celebrity first time and they loved that cruiseline...

yay! welcome! Glad you found me! I think an Eastern Caribbean is the only way to go for me so I think you should give it a try! I will say that Carnival is more of a "party" ship but in a good way. There are just more activites and more things going on. More things to do. I'm 31 so I enjoy relaxing but i get bored easily too so its nice that there is always something to do and going on. I wouldn't think it party as in "college party" atmosphere but there was a nice blend of ages on our last cruise and there was always something going on.

Crissy, actually come to think about it, my roommate from college & her DH Honeymooned at the Sandals Resort in Antigua and loved the Island. The Islands youhave lined up to visit look Beautiful. Have you & Eric gotten to visit Saphire Beach when you went to St. Thomas? That was the beach we spent the day at on our last cruise and I couldn't believe how blue the water was. If you & Eric ever get to Cruise with Celebrity you won't be dissappointed. I am so looking foward to reading all about this cruise that you & Eric are taking with his parents.
That ship looks soooo nice. That room is so pretty for a ship room. I've always heard that they're just ok, but that looks better than ok to me. It sounds like its going to be just a blast. Now, sorry if you've addressed this already, but is that the ACTUAL ship that Sam was on, or she just took that particular cruise with those exact ports. I love me some Sam. Can't wait for more. Oh, and just a sidenote. If you want any suggestions for Oct ADR's, it seems like you and Eric like the same things as me and Danny, so I'd be glad to suggest some things I think you'd enjoy.

No we went to Magen's Bay in St. thomas the first time and then to St. John's beaches the second time. Eric's parents loved the celebrity ship they went on years ago. They still talk about it

I was super impressed with the room that we had last year on the Holland America line. The room we had on our last Carnival cruise was an inside stateroom and it was very nice! But the first one on the norweigan cruise was just okay. So, they just keep getting better as cruises keep coming LOL
YES its the actual cruise she took (same 8 day cruise and intenerary) and the same EXACT ship she was on as well they feature the special on travel channel but I havent been able to find it in the last three weeks or so
I will def ask you about some food choices for adr's....we are just printing things off right now and I know he will be stuck for deciding soon *L*

Okay, so we are 2 weeks and 5 days to go. I know my countdown says 2 weeks and 6 days but that's from the actual sail date. We are actually leaving early friday March 26th to drive down.
On a quick side note to start.....Eric was just telling me a few weeks ago that our very first cruise ship, The Norweigan majesty had been moved to Sail out of Spain and sold to some idependent cruising company. So, then last week its all over the news that that exact ship was hit by Rogue Waves!!!! Really??? how crazy is that. The footage they showed where the waves broke through the windows happened to be where we had drinks every night and it broke through on the floor we stayed on last time right near the casino!!!!!! So crazy...I just had to share that!!!!
Okay, so once the planning had been done and over with and the cruise had been picked and excursions picked, it became a waiting game.
We have been doing a whole lot of nothing leading up to the cruise. We read the reviews of the ship weekly, we have been working out four to five times a week to get back into Bikini shape. We have also been planning our next disney vacation in late sept first of october during this time as well
We decided after our last cruise we had to buy new luggage for us together. He had some crappy luggage and I actually have some nice luggage. But, for when we travel together we always had to pack separately because neither suitcases could accomodate both. Right before our disney trip last year we invested in some new luggage. We have an Samsonite outlet store nearby and we bought a four piece set right before our last Disney trip!
We bought a rather extra large piece, the carry on piece, a piece that is a garment suitcase and a tote and that tote came with a makeup/toiletry case. All pieces were a nice pretty shade of blue and they swivel which is fun! They cost us 450 total which was a steal really!
In February we began to look at what we have and see what we might need. Eric was in a bad need for a new suit. He has lost 15 pounds since our first cruise and cannot wear his suit anymore because its extremely big on him. So, we have been looking high and low for him a new suit. Finally, last week, we went to Charlotte and he found a suit on sale at Banana Repbulic. Its very chic, black with small pinstripes. Its a one button coat and nice tailored pants. Its very metro sexual but I'm not telling him that because it fits him very well But, the suit was about 375 marked down from 600 So, we grabbed it up because he should be able to wear this to all things he needs suits for
That was really the only thing he needed. He did need some swimming trunks because his second pair is now falling off of him but we might have to make do with his one pair because we have looked and looked and he cannot find anything he likes so far
Last year we really spent a lot of pre cruise money for things we needed so this time around there was not much to buy. I had a few things I needed but overall it wasn't much....
So, my mom gave me an Old Navy gift card for christmas which I saved and used to buy preccruise gear. She also gave me a prepaid Visa for Christmas as well which I used to buy a new dress for the cruise
So, here was my first purchase, me and my mom saw this at Target around Christmas time and we both knew I HAD TO HAVE IT!!!
Its very 50's ish and I LURV it! I have some strappy black heels I bought last year that will be perfect with this dress!
Up next, I went to Old Navy a few weeks ago when they began to release the Spring line. I bought several things for only 50 dollars!!! OMG!!!
Here is the second dress I bought, they had it paired with a cute jean jacket which I have one already or you can wear a cute cardigan with it
I then went to Target and bought these cute sandals to go with the dress above
Then I saw these cute Tshirts on sale at Old Navy for 5 dollars a piece woooo hooooo
Also at Old Navy I saw the color of this shirt and thought how cute it would look with shorts and a cute tank or Tshirt while in a Port of call
Then back at Target the same day I bought this cover up for my bathing suit I bought last year with the coral polka dots on it because the original cover up I had bought I really didnt like it but I got this one for 15 dollars!!
That same day I went to the Mall to the Estee Lauder counter to buy some powder makeup up. I really hate the feeling of heavy foundation when in the Islands. The powder make up there is lightweight and it doesnt break me out and has great coverage. And that day I got the bonus gift and scored some really cool travel size stuff!!!
Also, when we were in Charlotte I went to my fave store Sephora and found a travel size version of the philosophy face wash I use!!! I quickly grabbed that one up for this cruise as well.
Recently, on the reviews we have been reading they have been talking about how bad the hair dryers are on this ship. So, when I saw that Target had the travel size hairdryers on sale for 14.99 I quickly picked that up as well!!!!
So, that has been the purchases so far for this trip. We are nearly done though. Eric is looking for a pastel shirt and tie combo for Easter since we will be on the ship for Easter this year
I have been looking for another bikini because I'd like to have at least four good bikinis. I might go on Victoria's secret and get another one from there since I LURV the one i got on there before.
Also, speaking of weight loss I TOO have lost some weight. I'm 5'4 and a couple of pounds make a huge difference on my frame. I gained 6 pounds last year when they placed me on some new medication. I finally told them in may last year they needed to change me back to the old. I over the past year have lost those 6 pounds and am back to the weight I was when I trained for the 5 k race wooo hooo. Last year my clothes were very tight on the cruise and I just tried them all on yesterday and they are perfect this year woooohooooo
I also want to whiten my teeth. I have been looking at the advance white strips by crest....I might actually splurge for those. Also, I get my blonde streaks back next week when I go to the hairdresser.
I also bought some sunscreen for my face yesterday. BTW, do you guys know how to keep your part from burning on your head?????? any suggestions would be great!
Okay so that puts us to now and we have very little left to do. We feel like its still not real that its almost time to go LOL
So, from here on out it will be ramblings until we leave
