Sousefest - A December to Remember (If We Can) - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Welcome to my Official PassPorter December Gathering Trip Report. Actually, it’s not just my trip report (lucky you! ). You get to hear about the fun from five different points of view! Yay! And a few of my collaborators will get to write a TR that is guaranteed to be finished. Yay! Win-win!
I don’t quite know where to start, so I’ll just ramble a little until I get into a groove. It seems so long ago that I barely remember, but somehow it was decided that this group of ladies should travel to Disney for the PassPorter December gathering. I’ll let one of them tell you about it. What? I’m not doing everything, here.
Anyway, once it was decided, we needed to find a place to stay. Four out of five of us are DVC members, so I suggested that we might want to get a 2 bedroom villa and pool our points. Everyone agreed (and I think having a villa, which makes it much easier to have impromptu cocktail parties, settled it for some people). I’ll let someone else tell the details of that, too.
Hmm, I kinda like this tag-team-style TR. I can give the vaguest of details and let someone else fill out the story! So whichever person goes next has to tell the rest of the story. So just who are the participants, you ask?
This is the part in movies where there’s always a montage. I will admit that I have terrible taste in movies, so I heart montages. And this kind of montage, an assembling-the-team montage? My fave! So! You should have some montage-y music playing in your head. Considering the participants, perhaps it should be Margaritaville. Actually, maybe not. Between the title of our TR (and thanks to Eileen for that), the villa-for-cocktail-party scenario and the Osborne Lights Meet we’re hosting (also known as “Get Lit with the CLQ”), I don’t want people thinking we’re raging alcoholics or anything.
How about Walking on Sunshine? That’s a montage classic! Never mind. I don’t need to have that song stuck in my head for the next eleven hours. Just choose your own song!
Anyway! Introductions. I’ll start and let the others pipe in before I give my version of the nuts and bolts of the trip. You should imagine this as being read by a narrator. I’m imagining George Clooney (umm… because of Oceans 11, not because he’s a hottie ). And for the full effect, you should read the captions and imagine them being typed out on the screen like in a cheesy movie, because that’s how I’m imagining it.
PrincessSharon, the Adventurer
“She’s the one who’s willing to do anything, from the mundane to the insane. Need a partner in crime? She’s your woman! ” (And speaking of adventures, we’ve got quite an adventure in the works this time, too. The Ultimate Magic Kingdom Challenge. But more on that later.)
I’ve come up with (what I think are) clever names for the rest of the ladies in our little team, but I’ll let them come up with names on their own. And hopefully, they’ll play along, or I’ll be all pouty and junk and they’ll have to deal with my utter sadness the entire trip. Yes, that was a threat. Why do you ask?

Ahhh Everyone . . . Welcome to Sousefest! I'd love to tell you all that Sharon's memory is correct . . . but already someone is mucking up the details. This will probably be the only opportunity where I will remember something she doesn't--and You'll see why in just a moment.

Sharon is having trouble with how this all started because she was ON VACATION! When this all started, and it started a long, long time ago in a private message far far away, was actually during the planning of a small get together in June. During the planning of said get together in June, (Please reference Jill's sig pic for this little par-tay) Karen asked what everyone was planning on doing for December. I had already booked myself a room, a studio, back in January-umm on January 10th in fact. Karen also decided that we'd double check with Sharon when she got back from vacation, but that we should probably go ahead and make a reservation without her consultation. I happily canceled my reservation and following in Karen's footsteps booked one night for everyone.
The rest of the ladies followed suit and soon we had a room for our vacation. (I'm going to let someone else tell you all about how difficult it is to link rooms together. I CANNOT go through the agony again.)
And now, without further adu . . . I know you've all been waiting for it: my introduction!
Oh wait thats not me . . .
Where is that photo . . .
Oh there it is . . . thats me on the right there.
I'm Heather, The Lush!
Always ready with a wine key and a blender. Shaking and stirring my way through WDW! I have the locations of every frozen beverage stored on a map in my iPhone and have memorized the menu at every WDW restaurant. Really! I'll be hosting a Italian Margarita and Illuminations Meet on Saturday 12/12 in Italy! If you'd like to join us. I have a strange fascination with rubber ducks--that even I can't explain! But there will be some rather unusual ducks for this year's meet! See you all soon! and now its someone else's turn! But at least with Sharon leading the charge you all know it will eventually get finished!
Yay!!!! Sooooo glad this has begun! Sharon and Heather - what a fantastic start. This tag team TR idea is sure to be an excellent way to tell a story. Sharon, funny you should mention Ocean's 11 because I love those movies and the music from those movies and that's totally what I play in my head!!!! Looking forward to more details!!!

This should certainly get interesting (as everyone gets drunker and loses their inhibitions ...wait...what inhibitions? ). I can't wait to see what you've all got in store.
