Three Adults & a Toddler – 6/7-13/09 - UPDATED 11/20 - Page 52 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I the pic of the castle at night and the one of you guys in front of the tomorrowland sign! Those are great shots!!!
Sorry about the ice cream....ice cream is such a disaster when its hot especially when the child is young...
I spectro! I'm so glad that you got to see it all.
Too bad about getting stuck on Buzz I cant believe you could see the exit and they wouldnt let you off!! Crazy!
I've really enjoyed reading about your trip and sad to see it end but totally psyched about your upcoming trip!!
Love Dylan saying uh-oh on COP. And I can't imagine carrying two ice cream cones on a hot day! I'm surprised Mike didn't have ice cream all over himself. Glad you made it to the PP meet, if a little late. And getting stuck with the exit in sight is just cruel. Especially when it's more than a couple of minutes.

Sounds like a great evening at MK, with a little PP fun thrown in. I can't believe the trip is almost over!
Well I've dragged it on for some time now - almost 6 months, but at least I'm writing another PTR at the moment!

My 4 year old was sitting on my lap while I was reading this and he got sooo excited. He and Dylan have the same 2 Star Wars Disney guys. He got Darth Goofy last year from my mother and Mikey Won Kanobi (sp?) this year.
Not a big PEW fan...but maybe it's because the last time I rode it was race night...in the rain...cold and full of a pulled pork sanwich...pulled pork and PEW don't go good together.
Now I'm heading to catch up on your PTR for your next trip...(so jealous by the way )
Sunrise Safari is an extra you can do if you stay concierge/club level. I think it was close to $60 per adult. (I don't remember the child price, but I'm sure I still have the e-mail if you want to know for sure.) Oh! And it's only an AKL club level perk.
That's great that they have the same SWW Disney plushes. Those were included in the gift basket I had sent for Dylan & Mike.
I would tend to say that PEW in the rain plus with a full stomach is probably NOT the best way to enjoy that ride!
Jealous of moi?! You're the one that had back to back trips!!

Thanks Crissy!! I learned a few lessons this trip that's for sure - ice cream being one of them.

You're not kidding about being stuck on a ride for so long when you can see how close you are to being free!

Everyone did get quite the kick out of him saying that. And yes - it was one of the great memories from this trip!
Just read your entire trip report. What a great time everyone is having. This brings back memories of my DS's first trip when he was about Dylan's age.

Kelly, Im all caught up! Wow a lot has happened in your last couple posts. I love all the pictures. Dylan saying "uh oh" had me cracking up as that is something Skyler would say too on a ride. Hopefully Dylan doesn't say Pee Pee Uh Oh. I can see where trouble might be caused with 2 ice cream cones melting and it being messy for a toddler. More please
Love all of the pictures! I am so glad to find I am not alone when it comes to mini meltdowns with the hubby on vacation! You may luck out and have warm weather in December, it has been staying pretty warm down there. We were down in December last year and we were in shorts almost every day.

Those would have definitely been less messy, but I could see them getting spilled too. Oh well!

We're not to the 'pee pee uh oh' yet - not even close actually.

I'm kind of surprised we didn't have more meltdowns. I've got a bit of a quick temper and with it being so hot it made it even worse. We were over them quickly at least - once I had time to cool off.
I'm hoping we have nice weather when we go in a couple weeks - that would definitely make it better. I can't even pack until I can get the weather forecast because you just don't know what it will be like.
Glad that you were able to enjoy the entire parade and also make the PP Wishes meet. Poor Dylan with the ice cream all over him it is just so difficult to enjoy ice cream in that humid weather. We definitely threw out some not so finished ice cream in August...even though we were not finished with it - the heat made sure it was finished with us
Can't believe we are coming up to your last day....can't wait to hear about your last day fun.

The night before we got some of our documents about leaving the next day, but not all. They checked Becki & I in for the flight and we had boarding passes, but there was nothing for Mike. I called about it and they told me not to worry. Also, another issue I couldn’t get resolved was that we didn’t get any information about what time DME would be picking us up. This morning was the worst for customer service I’ve ever had at Disney. I don’t know what the problem was but nothing seemed to be going right that morning. I will say one of the guys handling the luggage was great so he helped make up for everything else going wrong.
We got all our bags downstairs, but mine was over the weight limit – removing my toiletry case kept it under 50lbs, but I needed a place to put it. I stashed it in Becki’s suitcase after some finagling. Then we had to call this number to pay for our luggage fees to be checked if we wanted the resort to check our stuff for us. Now they did give us some information about this, but it wasn’t clearly spelled out. Like they need to say: PLEASE PRE-PAY FOR YOUR LUGGAGE BEING CHECKED BEFORE BRINGING YOUR LUGGAGE DOWN!! This whole incident caused another brief family fight moment. Eventually it all got sorted out and we headed out to the bus stop.
We were at Epcot by 9:15am (not too bad after the fiasco checking out). Mike & Becki headed for Soarin’ so they could get in a ride on that. I took Dylan to see Figment – we were the only people on the ride and they told me the best spot to sit was in the second car in the first row – and it is the best spot to see Figment!! After that I let Dylan play some and watch the fountains. Since we still hadn’t heard from Mike & Becki I took him to see the Fab 5 in the Character Connection as there was hardly anyone in there. (Note: 10am is a perfect time to see them here – no lines!)
I warned Dylan that Minnie might give him a kiss!
'Quack Quack!'
Dylan loves him some 'Foofy!'
Had to get a shot of a bus since Dylan pointed out every one he saw during the week!
I finally got a hold of Mike & Becki – they were in Mousegears. After a quick shop in there and some pins for Mike at the pin stand we headed back to AKL. We made it back about 10:45am and DME wasn’t coming until 11:30am, so we went back to the lounge and got some drinks. I also got a few snacks in the gift shop – a Mickey rice krispy treat and some cookies ($5.54). Soon before the bus came we headed outside to wait for it. All too soon it was there and we headed for the airport, with a stop at Pop Century first. (OK, now I’m going to sound like a spoiled brat, but I don’t think I ever want to stay at a value. Now, if that was the only way to go to Disney I would, but since all I’ve stayed at was a deluxe, mod, and DVC resorts I don’t think I could do it. The amount of people was amazing!! Just way to much for me – and the lines! Uh! Sorry for the spoiled brat rant. I’m done now.)
We made it the airport at 1:30pm. We went to the food court and had Chik-Fil-A while Becki had Quizno’s. While in the security line Mike saw that our plane was delayed about 45 minutes. We were supposed to leave at 2:45pm, but now it was 3:33pm. Dylan was really impatient at the gate and didn’t want to sit still – can you blame him? I think there was an even longer delay, but my notes say it was about 3:30pm when we got on the plane. OH! Another issue with Airtran. Since AKL checked us in and failed to check Mike in at the same time we were scattered over the place. Becki & I were originally at least in the same row so she switched with Mike so we could try to sit a bit closer to one another. Then I just had Mike sit next to me and hope the person would willingly switch with him – seeing that I had a toddler on my lap may help too. Well it turned out that there was another couple in our row but they were not exactly next to one another so they switched and then the other lady in our row was very understanding as well. Poor Becki had to sit a few rows away, but she was ok. She ended up sitting with 2 girls (elementary school age) while the rest of their family (parents and a little boy about 2 were in the row behind us). This is why Airtran is not always a good choice even if the flights may be cheaper. (We did end up getting $50 vouchers each to make up for the issues, but if you’ve read my December PTR you’ve seen how well that didn’t work out.)
Anyway, we sat on the plane for another 45 minutes before we took off – storms in the area. Then about 45 minutes to an hour into our flight (maybe sooner) the pilot came one to say that there was a problem with one of [the six] navigation systems and we were going to have to stop in Atlanta to change planes!! I was thinking ‘just get me home already!’ (The pilot did mention at the same time that it wasn’t an emergency landing.) So in Atlanta we got off our plane, went to the next gate and got on a new plane (and it was just like that so at least we didn’t have to wait in Atlanta too). We finally touched down in STL at 7:30pm (so 8:30pm Orlando time); only took 4 hours – about twice as long!
Mike’s parents picked us up from the airport and took us home. Then Mike & his Dad ran out to get Steak N Shake for dinner – Dylan needed some time to run around after being cooped up in a airport/plane for 4 hours. We reviewed some of the pics we took on the trip during dinner. Then the in-laws left and we hit the sack at 10:30pm – completely exhausted!!
Memories from our seventh day:
The weather today was…sunny & warm. (I’m thinking it rained later that day or the next day.) We never saw rain in the week we were there.
Today we walked…2.04 miles.
Today we spent…$5.54+ (snacks & lunch at airport (Mike kept the receipt for that)).
The best thing today was…Mike & Becki getting to ride Soarin’.
The worst thing today was…the checking out.
The funniest thing today was…Dylan interacting with the little boy behind us on the plane.
Today we tried…airline check-in at the resort
and the result was…it could have been better with more organization.
The most magical moment today was…Dylan with the Fab 5 @ Character Connection.
