Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Day 8 – Wednesday, August 26, 2009 – Cozumel……Ooh, my back and more snorkeling!

It was another early morning (for me anyway), especially since we had gone to bed early the night before. Since I was up early, I might as well do some laundry. I took the clothes down to the 7th deck laundry room in the rolling carry on bag, but it was all full. Instead of taking the elevator back up, I tried to roll the bag up the stairs, and in the process, did something very painful to my back. I had hurt my back in May when I was painting Alexa’s bedroom. Not sure if I slipped a disc, or pinched a nerve (not sciatica though, I’ve had that before). Anyway, it was almost healed (or about 90%). Well, not anymore! We went to breakfast again at Topsiders. I took some pictures as we came into Cozumel, with 3 more Carnival Cruise ships!

After breakfast, the boys were headed off the ship early, in search of a fishing spot. Alexa decided to stay with me and do the laundry. Our Fury Catamaran excursion wasn’t until 12:45, so we had the entire morning to ourselves. So we went down to the 6th deck (via the elevator this time), and they had some machines available so we loaded it up. I think Alexa and I then went up to Deck 9 and either watched the Ariel screen or played ping pong. There was a crew drill during this time. Alexa then wanted to do something in the club, so I signed her in..Then I went back down and switched the clothes from the washer to the dryer (I used 2 machines to wash but only 1 to dry). I must say, being able to use the KTTW card for laundry was so much easier! I just went back to the room and tried to relax and find a comfortable position (not so easy)! Then I went down to get the laundry, brought it back and put it away, and went down to get Alexa for lunch. By this time, the boys had come back (no luck with fishing today) so we headed off to lunch. I think we just did Goofy’s and Pinocchios, but I might be wrong since I didn’t write it down (it was probably Topsiders again).

Time for our excursion and we headed down to the Promenade Lounge to meet the group. Not much longer, we were off the ship, and thankfully the catamaran was right at the same dock, just a bit further down! We hopped onboard, had our picture taken, and were given a lifejacket and flippers.

The excursion was a ride on a catamaran, snorkeling, and then you go to a beach and can do watersports. We were due to get back around 6 PM, and tonight was Pirate night, so I was hoping we’d get back earlier so we could do the dinner. Anyway, on to snorkeling. It was about a 10 minute boat ride, if that, to the snorkeling area, which was just off the main drag (certainly not somewhere I would expect to be). But it was beautiful. I took it easy, hoping that maybe being in the water would actually help the back since there’d be no pressure on it. It wasn’t too bad. The water was deep (maybe 10 feet, maybe more) but we saw beautiful fish (pictures of which still haven’t been developed )! The snorkeling lasted about 45 minutes to an hour. Of course, Colin got cold before it was done, so I went back on the boat with him. Matt and Alexa were some of the last ones back on the boat (Alexa will be a fish in another life)!

Then it was about a 25 minute boat ride to the beach/watersports part of the excursion. We were standing at the front of the catamaran, and all of a sudden these things started flying out of the water (flying fish)! There must have been 50 of them that we saw thru the entire trip! Very cool and made the ride pass more quickly!

There were 3 or 4 other catamarans there at the same time, but there was plenty of room. They basically had an “iceberg” rock wall, a huge blowup slide, a trampoline, and kayaks you could use. Also horses if you wanted to ride (but I think that might have been extra). There was also food available, for $9 I think.

The kids wanted to go in the water (of course) so we grabbed some float things and headed out to the trampoline first. There was no way I could do that with my back, so I just jumped back into the water. Then Alexa wanted to try the iceberg thing. However, there was a HUGE current between the trampoline and the iceberg, and it literally took all our strength to get from one to the other. I thought we were going to just be swept away (they did have guys in boats on the edges so we wouldn’t have floated off to Cancun)! She didn’t get up very high on it, it was just too hard. So back to the shallower water we went. Matt and I were both now exhausted from going back and forth. Any my back was aching. Thankfully they decided just to go down the slide, so I waited at the bottom (where I could just about touch bottom) and Matt was on the other side where they climbed up. They went down about 3 or 4 times, before I said I needed to rest. Matt then took each one of them out in a kayak for a short ride.

By the time they finished with the kayak, they were calling our boat number back to the boat. The beach time went really quickly, and they could easily add another 2 hours on to this excursion so you could actually relax on the beach. We again stayed near the front for the boat ride back to the dock. Matt and some other guys helped them raise the sail and then we were off!

And we saw more flying fish. I talked to Fernanda, who was actually a CM aboard the ship who came with us to chaperone the excursion (first time we’ve had that). Maybe because we were the last excursion back that day? Not sure. Anyway, she was also from Brazil, and had been on the ship for I think 5 years. She started on the Wonder (usually works in the kids clubs) so we talked and figured out she was on the boat when we did our last cruise in 2006! She was great to talk to and seemed to really love her job! I’d highly recommend this excursion. We had a great time, and it wasn’t that expensive.

We actually made it back to the dock about 5:15. We walked as fast as we could, and were up in the room before 5:30. Very quick showers, we dressed for Pirate Night and headed down to dinner. We were back in Parrot Cay.

I had a Rusty Anchor drink to start! Something to help kill the pain! I had Potstickers, the Jerk Chicken Salad, and the Treasure of the Seas Grilled Shrimp and Seared Scallops. Colin had his usual pizza and I think he splurged for some fruit at the beginning as well. Alexa actually went with the Potstickers and the Treasure of the Seas as well, as there was no way the small piece of pizza was going to cut it with how active she had been all day. I think Matt had the crabcake, the conch chowder, and either the red snapper or the mahi mahi. For dessert, I had the sweet temptations (sampler) and Matt had the cheesecake. During the Pirate Party dance with all the servers, Colin was the only one who would go out with Ali and Gedi and dance around the room (which surprised me as he’s usually very shy)!

Back to the room to rest, I was done for the night. My back was killing me, and Colin was quite happy to stay in the room with me! Matt and Alexa did go up to the Pirate Party quickly, but didn’t stay too long (we also missed the buffet). I ended up sleeping on the sofa bed, as it was rock hard (better for my back), and the bed was way too soft. Earlier in the night, they had made an announcement that during a routine check, they found a leak in one of the cooling pipes, so there were delaying our departure from Cozumel until 7:30 PM. This ended up getting pushed back, and pushed back. Come to find out, we didn’t end up leaving until after 11 PM. Which meant no fireworks for Pirate night (they would do them tomorrow on our day at sea).

The weather today was……sunny, hot, upper 80s, no rain!
The best thing today was …….snorkeling with the tropical fish, and seeing the flying fish on the catamaran.
The worst thing today was…..hurting my back!
The funniest thing today was….the kids going down the huge slide on the beach excursion.
Today we tried……Cozumel
And the result was…….seemed nice, but rough ocean currents!
The most magical moment today was….Colin dancing with Gedi and Ali at the Pirate Dinner!

Coming up next……..My aching back, and another quiet day at sea!

No, it actually wasn't that bad, and you weren't on top of people! Each boat seemed to have their own area, and most people stayed near their boat.

What a great day - and so many great photos. I think my favourite is the one of you and Alexa, but there are so many wonderful ones, especially the ones that the Catamaran people got, you've got some lovely family shots there.

Great pictures and that water is just amazing. So crystal blue and clear. I am sorry to hear that your back was bothering you, glad you were still able to have fun on today's excurison and enjoy dinner before heading back to the room. I guess one good thing about the late departure is that hopefully your back will be felling better tomorrow and you will get to see the fireworks.

What a great excursion...it looks like it was so much fun (except for your back - I can empathize since I have lower back pain that flares up from time to time.) Love the photos with the stingrays too! You have such a beautiful family!
