Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Melting Pot Restaurant

Has anyone eaten at The Melting Pot Restaurant before? Anyone eat at the one in Orlando by any chance?

Just curious what people thought of the food, restaurant quality etc. As we have the opportunity to dine there soon!

Thanks

I loooove the Melting Pot! I have not eaten at the one in Orlando, but I've eaten at two different locations in NC and it's one of my faves. It's definitely a special-occassion place for me (it can be a little pricey!) but worth it. My favorite courses are the first and last - cheese and dessert. Have fun and enjoy!

I haven't been to the one in Orlando either, but we have one about a stone's throw from where I work. Very much a special occasion location since it is a bit pricey and can take a very long time. Thom and I went there for our anniversary a couple of years ago. The food is delicious, but a person who likes to sit down, eat and leave probably would not enjoy it.

I think you'll enjoy it though!

Not been to the one in Orlando. There's one in Indy that we've been to twice. Once to celebrate Samantha's B-day, once to make sure it was that we really did not like it.

The food is okay - nothing I'd rave about though - I've had better at home. It arrives at the table raw. That's right - you get the pleasure of cooking your own meal - and paying outrageously for the pleasure. You get your choice of 3 (it might be four, but I'm fairly certain it's 3) types of fondue to cook the "main course" in. Then, all of the meat, veggies, etc. goes into the one pot. some cooks faster than the rest.
It wasn't bad - it just wasn't good.

The wait service was wonderful, but it wasn't enough to offset just how much I really despised cooking my own food.
I have better things to do with my money than to buy raw food and a bowl of boiling stuff to cook it in.

We have one here in town and I have to say that I am NOT a fan. We've been once and won't be back. It was extremely expensive and we went before going to the theater. That was our first mistake -- only go if you can dedicate the entire evening. Service was slow and when we complained, they told us that they want to allow their customers a leisurely experience. (We'd told the waiter when we came that we needed to make an 8 pm curtain, and it still took forever. I believe we had a 5:00 pm reservation. We were late to the theater and had to walk in to our theater seats during the first break.)

DH was very put out that the food arrived raw and that you had to cook it yourself. It took us a bit to figure out the right time for everything, so the quality of food kind of depends on your ability to judge that, I suppose.

We had our DD who was 2 at the time with us (my sister was eating with us and was taking DD to her house during the show)...definitely not something to do with kids. Not because of the food, but because of the safety factor....very hot oil, the food comes out of the oil extremely hot and our poor starving DD (it took a very long time for everything to arrive and she had a hard time waiting) burned her tongue more than once.

The food was just so-so, in my opinion. However, I have to admit that dessert was to DIE for!! Probably the only way I'd go back was if we had a dessert only reservation.

We have a local Swiss restaurant that does a wonderful Gruyere cheese fondue. When we're in the mood, we head over there instead. Melting Pot just doesn't do it for us. But I have to say that we are definitely in the minority. Most people I talk to absolutely love it.

I thought it was extremely overpriced as well. It certainly is a place you want to dedicate the entire evening to; it simply takes forever...and personally, I just think it was way too expensive considering you do most of the "work". I dunno, it was ok food wise, but it was not worth the $100 it cost for two of us.

I haven't eaten at the one in Orlando, but have to been to one in Chicago, Indy, and Louisville. It is a special occasion type of place because it is pricey but Chuck and I love fondue. Like Scarlett, the cheese and chocolate are my faves.

Been to the one in Chicago and loved it!! Yes, it is a special day place but it is sooo much fun....we loved doing the fondue would not want to do it everytime I went out to eat but it is fun every so often....it is great 'specially the older kids who had not done it before. I say go for it....everyone should do it at least once.......realize that it is a fondue place, it takes awhile to get through the meal, it is not cheap and just have fun with it........

How long are we talking? 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours?

I'd like to kind of have an idea as we have plans to meet up with a friend around 9pm and our reservation is at 5:45pm.

Ditto (Side note: We did not like out service at the Lamp & Lantern Village location though and don't plan to return to that one.)
