The $16,000 "Free" Disney Trip **Updated 12/11** COMPLETE - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

San Francisco and DL - and a chance to spend time with Karen, Zach, Cheryl and Mark! I'd say you have one great vacation planned. I can't wait to hear all about it!
By the way - the drive along the coast is one of my favorite ever! I did it back in 1980 and it is on my list of things to do again. If you're ever looking for a traveling partner................
Can't wait to hear more, more more!!! I can't wait to see the pics of DL, espcially the HM with Nightmare Before Christmas....wish WDW would do that too!!!
Oh! Goody goody gumdrops! (Haven't heard that in a while, have ya?) Another TR by Sharon. I know you are excited about meeting up with Karen and Zack, Cheryl and Mark. That is awesome. I can't wait to hear how you like Haunted Mansion. We loved it dressed up with Jack's gang. Have a wonderful (and safe) trip.
*I this $16,000 trip! You'll have to show us what the $16,000 tote looks like.

What a great way to get a free trip to DL! Your trip sounds like so much fun!
I have a son who lives 20 minutes for DL - and I have yet to get there!
I just didn't realize all of the fun extra stuff DL does for Halloween! I am so excited to read all about your tour!
I think it is so great that you are going to San Franciso! I sure hope the weather permits you to see that Golden Gate Bridge! The day I was there - the fog was so thick, I didn't even know I was going across a bridge!
I hope you have a great time! I can't wait to read all about it!
Sounds like your California trip is packed with great site seeing!! I laughed about your comment regarding your brother not being an inmate, but an employee at a prison!
Can't wait to hear more!

I have to admit that there will be another $16,000 free vacation, but less free than this one. And I'm not going to explain it until the PTR for that (and I'm not even telling when that will be ).

Your plans sound great. How nice that you will get to spend some quality time with Karen and Zach both in SF and DL. The Happy Haunts tour sounds like so much fun.
Glad you will be able to share some more time with Cheryl and Mark...and to share the MTOTP with them.
You should absolutely the Fairmont in SF, while I have never been there my boss loves it so it has become a staple for him when he travels to that neck of the woods. He says it is just such a nice atmosphere and he has always had great service. This I must agree with because they have always been so helpful with the dozen or so changes I make to his travel plans each time he visits.
Can't wait to hear more....(you really need to keep this up, I don't feel bad about one of your TR's ending knowing there is a new PTR coming up)
I actually really like the $16,000 tote bag! And glad to hear your boss likes the Fairmont. I knew my BFF Sam wouldn't steer me wrong.

Aren't those $16,000 items the best? Worth every penny.

Ann, you really need to go to DL! Now I'm hoping you'll read my TR and want to go even more! And I'm hoping that with 3 days in SF, the bridge will come out of the fog at least once!

Oh, I am so glad I found this PTR. Would hate to miss it. It sounds like you have a great trip planned as always and I can't wait to hear all about it. Have safe travels.
BTW, if you ever decide to make a trip to stay at the Loews in Denver, let me know. We only live 85 miles and would love to make a trip down to meet you.
Where Am I? Where Am I? Where Am… AAAAAH! If that makes no sense to you, go here.
Because I’d be at Disneyland for five days, I didn’t really think an itinerary was really necessary. Since Karen and Zack would be joining me for a few days, I decided to let Karen make all the plans and whatever I hadn’t done while they were with me I could fill in later. Karen suggested Goofy’s Kitchen for dinner on Saturday night (so she could see me make a fool of myself, no doubt).
Chez and I put our heads together about dining choices. Well, now, it was more like Cheryl told me her dining choices and I decided which meals I'd join them for. Since I was calling to make my PS, I was happy to save her the long-distance calls and book hers as well. We’ll be joining Chez and Mark, as well as another PassPorter Rebecca (Tink and. Co) and her sister, at the Blue Bayou for lunch.
I’ll also be dining with Chez and Mark at breakfast at Storytellers’ Café and PCH Grill. As I mentioned before, we’re also planning to attend MTOTP on the same night, plus I’m sure we’ll do a fair amount of touring the parks together.
So here are my plans, as vague as they are.
Saturday, October 25 – My flight lands at LAX at 12:30. Karen will pick me up and after check-in we’ll do whatever Karen says until it’s time for dinner at Goofy’s Kitchen. Then we’ll head over and watch Remember… Dreams Come True, which is the best fireworks show, like, evah!
Sunday, October 26 – Not sure where we’ll be and when, but this is the day we’re doing the Happiest Haunts Tour.
Monday, October 27 – We’ve got the PPer lunch at the Blue Bayou, and I’ll be saying TTFN to Karen and Zack.
Tuesday, October 28 – Breakfast with Cheryl and Mark and then hitting the parks. This is the night we’re doing MTOTP.
Wednesday, October 29 – Breakfast with Chez and Mark again at the PCH Grill (Lilo & Stitch). I’ll probably hang with them until they hit the road and then after that, who knows?
Thursday, October 30 – This is my shopping day. My flight to San Francisco is at 3:00, so I’ll just have time to check out Downtown Disney before catching the shuttle to the airport. Once I get to SF, I’ll check in at the Fairmont and hang with Karen and crew.
Friday, October 31 – I’ve got an Alcatraz tour in the morning, then hanging with Karen again. We're planning on scaring trick-or-treaters (and I've got my supply of rocks all ready - if the kids decide to throw 'em, well, it's Karen's house! )
Saturday, November 1 – Touristy stuff, then Karen stuff.
Sunday, November 2 – My flight home isn’t too early, so I can enjoy a final morning in SF before flying home.
The DL portion of the TR will be here, and I’ll post the San Francisco part when I get to it in the Globetrotting forum. I’ll post a link so you’ll know where to find me.
Up Next: You Say Goodbye and I Say Hello
