As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). When I prepare for each trip I fix a lanyard for everyone in our group. I use a business card program on a Disney program I have. On the front I print a Disney graphic for our group and I type our daily agenda and dining location and times, and a place to write in our room number on the backside of the card.. The matching graphics speed up the castmembers checking on the # of our group and if we separate everyone knows the time and location to meet for meals. Why do I do this, so we can put our room key which is our park admission all included on one card in the plastic badge holder attached to the lanyard. It's easily available and you won't lose it. Of course, since I buy an annual pass, I have an extra card. This has worked great for our trips. This would solve the problem of having to get out the room key card. Just slip it in the clear plastic holder and show it to the castmember or easily remove it if needed. Let me know what you think, this is one solution.

I think this would help those that don't stay at a Disney resort if they do have friends that are. All the resort friends have to do is pass the cards to the non resort guests. They probably just won't be able to ride the same ride together. And I can see cards getting lost and delays like others have been saying.
the lanyard idea isn't ideal either. I wear one of those for my job and my id is constantly falling out of the plastic protector. I broke down and punched a hole in the id to secure it better. Being the person that always looses something....i hope their is an alternate solution by Sept.
I hope they don't go to that. I carry the 4 kids resorts cards and it sounds like a receipe for disaster having to hand them over to the kids. Also we have noticed people getting in line without wristbands, what is going to happen if someone without a resort ID sneaks into line while the CM is checking resort ID's.
Have to agree with you all here - pulling out the resort key each and every time is asking for disaster! How many times is Disney going to be fixing ppl's bills when someone else finds your card and makes charges to your room!!!!! UUGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

I don't like this idea at all. I too constantly loos things, and even with a lanyard - I'd probably lose my key at some point. I ddn't realize that so many people abused the system - but I too can see people who have regular park tickets hanging out at the parks during EMH and bumming room keys from their friends. I hope Disney comes up with a different alternative.
For those of you that have been . . . how do the hard ticket events work? Do you have to leave the park and come back with your tickets - or can you stay in the park? I was just wondering if what ever Disney did for those events could be duplicated for EMH.

We have always had to get a wristband from the entrance but i dont remember ever actually exiting the park past the turnstiles.
My vote would be for a stamp. I would much rather do a stamp if its harder to switch off. But having to show your resort card at every ride is a pain in the rear. Its sad that people are always trying to scheme which makes it harder for the rest of us!
Well, if they do go w/ the KTTK plan as a long term situation, perhaps they will also start to issue a lanyard or pouch on a pully thing like I bought to keep my fast passes in (I remember getting a lanyard when DH and I went on our first trip. Perhaps they will bring those back?). I always wear my KTTK in a plastic pouch on my lanyard anyway. So this wouldn't bother me much. (My kids too. They are from 9 - 16)If they did this it would probably become a "flash the card kind of thing". I'm sure they will come up with something to solve the problem and then we will just have to come to terms with the new system.

I'd rather have my hand stamped. I don't like the idea of having to pull my key card out each time.
I haven't lost anything when I wear my laynard but my room key stays in my bag.

I agree I think pulling out my KTTW card for attractions is just looking for a reason for it to get lost.
I totally agree. I like the wristbands, they make good souvenirs and I still have a purple one intact that I occasionally put on just to reminisce Hopefully they will find a good alternative if they do get rid of the wristbands altogether.
I think that's not such a great idea, having to use a KTTW; unless they fingerprint for each card, then check before you enter each ride, it won't work. As has been said, you can hand your card to someone else if you want. And if you lose your card, how are you going to replace it?
I'm hoping if they did these tests and were so lax at checking, that they don't have a false sense of how well it worked.

If you're already in the park when the party starts, then you can go to "wristband stations" throughout the park to show your party ticket and get a wristband put on you. (One of them is in the rose garden, down by the water, to the right of the castle. The others will be marked on your party map and CMs can direct you to the nearest one.)
The same holds true for EMH evenings. You don't have to go back to the turnstiles. Just go to the wristband stations and show your resort ID to get a wristband. (At least until the policy is changed, if it is changed.)
