Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Your spouse...
Was it love at first sight? Was he or she the type you thought you'd marry?
It was definitely love at first sight for me! However, although he was sweet and good looking, he just wasn't my type. Had a bit more of a wild past than I thought I could handle and I had always gone for completely straight-laced guys. The past is the past, though, so I gave him a shot (wasn't that hard based on how head over heels I already was) and have never regretted it!

Re: Your spouse...
One of the happiest days of my life, was the day I met my DH! It was love at first sight for me. My DH Chris and my brother were best friends in high school(still are) and Chris had come over to our house to rehearse a song with my brother and 2 other guys, they were doing a barbershop quartet number for their spring concert. When he walked in the door my heart jumped. I was in 9th grade and he was a senior. I knew right then and there that he was THE ONE. The next day I told all of my friends that I had met the man I was going to marry. They all thought I was nuts! We didn't start dating until a year later and we have never been happier. When I was a senior, one of my friends remembered what I had said 3 years earlier and said, "You two are really gonna get married someday aren't you? How did you know?"
I just knew, I felt it in my heart and didn't know any other way to explain it. He is definitely the type of guy that I wanted and more! People always tell us that we are a perfect fit for each other.

No love at first sight for me. I knew my husband a while before we started going out and I hadn't thought of him as someone to date until he asked. He's the kind of guy who grows on you over time! -HiddenMickey

Re: Your spouse...
I was attracted to my DW from the first time I saw her, but we were more just passing acquaintances for several years before we started dating.

Re: Your spouse...
Love at first sight for me. In fact, the first day we met (in person), we spent the evening just talking...sat up until 1 in the morning. I knew then I was going to marry Russ. He was quite a bit taller than anyone I had met before (6' 7"), but other than that, nothing about him that would have stopped me from seeing him, and even that didn't!
Just another little story. On my wedding day, my mom revealed a little tidbit of info about her and my dad. They were 12 years apart, and dad was her Sunday School teacher at the high school level. The first Sunday in class, my mom leaned over to the girl sitting next to her and said, "I'm going to marry him," (meaning my dad). She doesn't know why she said that, as she went on only one or two dates before, and never was much for looking for a guy. But she said there was just something about him that she knew he was the one.
And, of course, my dad had a story he would always tell us about my mom. While he was serving in the Korean Conflict, he had a dream about the woman he would marry. He said her features weren't especially clear, but it was just an overall look of this woman that he knew he would meet. Mind you, my mom was probably like 7 at the time, and they didn't know each other. Anyway, he saw my mom in church and said, "That's the woman from my dream!" So, he too, knew right off he would marry her.
They honestly were the storybook dream come true. Just totally in love, and best friends. I only hope Russ and I can come close to ever being like them (mom says we do! ).

Re: Your spouse...
We knew each other for years before we started dating. In fact he would call once a week (I think on Sun.) but I was never home. One week my mother told me I couldn't leave until or if he called. I was 22. He called. We dated on and off for a while before we decided to stay together.

We were also friends for many years - we met when we were 12 and were friends all through school. We didn't start dating until we were 20, but from the first time we dated I knew I was going to marry him. Smartest thing I ever did!

Re: Your spouse...
I'm not sure it was true love at first sight because we were so young when we met. However, I realized he was about the cutest guy I had ever seen on this whole planet. He was going out with another girl at the time, but he dumped her right after he met me and then, the rest, as they say, is history.

Re: Your spouse...
Jason (my DH) is not someone who I would have thought I'd been with. He was a dirtball in highschool and I was a cheerleader. He had just cut his hair right before we met (thank god!). I had just graduated from high school and he was already in college (he's 3 years older). We met at a party and he was feeling quite good by the time we were introduced. I knew 2 of the guys he was with and figured if he was friends with those guys he should be okay. Went on a date the next night and have been inseperable since. Got engaged 2 years after we met and married 3 years later. I don't know if I'd say "love at first sight" but it was kinda close!

Re: Your spouse...
Not really love at first sight, but almost. We were in the same class at college. We went to the same building for the next class. I aways walked her there, but it took me several months to ask her out. (She was very well known, and I was a nobody) He roommate brought her by the shoe store I worked at and they just stayed until closing. We were married in 4 months. Last April was our 38th anniversary.

Re: Your spouse...
It was Love at second sight you could say. The first time Tina and I met was in a 6th period class in High School(I was a Senior She a Junior).
I WAS attracted to her thinking that she was the nicest and prettiest girl I had met. We became really close(as friends)that year and I wanted to
date her but never go the courage up until the end of the school year. By then it was too late, I was moving on with Prom, Graduation, where do I go from here syndrome, and P-A-R-T-I-E-S. We exchanged #'s but never really contacted each other.
It was 2 years latter when I had just gotten out of a bad relationship and was cruising around town
with a buddy(He had just broken up with his girl of 4years)to get over the pain. Thats when She passed us going the other way. I drove straight to her house and got there just as she was getting out of her car. I walked up to her with my head down and a Baseball Cap pulled low. When I
looked up at her Thats when I fell in LOVE at Second Sight. I was so nervous, but she was happy
to see me as well because we gave each other a great big hug and 1year latter we were married.

Re: Your spouse...
It was definitely love at first sight for both of us. We went on our first date 9/4/98 and he proposed 3 weeks later.
We planned a wedding for one year later but due to problems beyond our control we had to postpone until April 2000. We just celebrated our 2nd anniversary. I always knew I would marry someone older than me but my DH has 19 years on me.
My mother almost had a heart attack when she found out he was only 2 years younger than her.

Re: Your spouse...
adoneko...when is your anniversary?? DH & I celebrate our 5th on August 2nd.
My DH was definitely not love at first sight. We met in a class our junior year in college; I remember when I met him thinking "really nice guy, but he's way too short to date." For the first year or so I thought he was just a nice person, and didn't think we'd last past graduation. But, by the time we were leaving school he talked me into moving to New Jersey and the rest is history.
