The Mighty Morphing Birthday Trip - Thread 1 - COMPLETE (last update 7/30) - Page 31 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great update Melissa and Andy. WL and Biergarten are two places my DH wants to try. I can't believe the size of that beer. I couln't have drank the entire thing!!! They would have carried me out of there if I had.

I don't think I added that we ended up buying my FIL one of the liter mugs that they use in the Biergarten. I just couldn't pass up that opportunity (as he is a big beer snob and enjoys a good ) So Andy had to tote that thing around for the rest of the night. I'll come to more of that story in the next installment
Can I say how much I'm loving this TR? Reading it is just like being there with you. I'm impressed y'all both finished those ginormous beers! Just looking at the photos makes me think I need to ... err use the potty. Hurry back with more!

Mickey's so happy to see me back, he can barely contain himself!
We took a self shot by sitting the camera on a stair post thing..
I am very impressed that you were able to take this photo after having a liter of beer apiece! Very impressed. (If it were me, I'd have a nice photo of my knees.)
Great updates Melissa and Andy!! Love the tag-teaming!!! Holy cow, that was a BIG glass of beer. I would have had to be carried to the monorail after that. Sounds like you two had a blast!! Can't wait for more!!
You two are just too funny! It sounds like you had a good meal at Biergarten - and how cool to see some photos of the interior. I don't think I've ever seen that before.

Great updates... Oops, I mean Fab updates! Can't believe the size of that mug. Yeah, I'd be face down in my soup with one of those but i'd be impressed even if it was iced tea. That's alot of liquid. Let's just say I'd have to make 10 or 15 pitstops the rest of the evening.
Loved seeing the inside pictures. Never been but it's a might-do in December. Glad you finally rode S.E. It's one of my favorites.
Interested to see how the rest of evening goes.....If you are checking out every bathroom from Germany to the front of W.S. or if you two finish the night with T.T. or M.S. Hurry back with more!

We are trying Biergarten for the first time in September. When I showed DH the picture of Andy and his beer, his eyes glazed over and he said "good thing they have buses to get us back to the hotel"! I am assuming we might have to throw one of those back. . .
Day Three Part Four cont...
I'm on my own on this part b/c Andy's at work.... but maybe he'll add some quick comments sometime today. He's been on my case to update, so here we go
After dinner at the Biergarten I mentioned that we purchased the stein for my FIL. I stopped by the potty right before dessert, and then we were off. We walked through the shops as I mentioned earlier and then we made our way around towards China. I really wanted to look in the shops in China b/c in the past I have seen the cute little tea sets that they have and I wanted to think about getting one.
Before we even hit the outskirts of Germany though I had the urge to go potty again. Gee I wonder why Needless to say we began to pick up the pace, ALOT....towards China. I ran into Nine Dragons, took a moment to notice it smelled REALLY tasty in there, and then shot into the bathroom. I had to wait forever (it sure felt like forever in the state I was in) on these French girls who were just chatting away in the stalls. Finally they were finished and I was able to get in. Talk about sweet relief!! Andy pointed out to me that he didn't have to go to the bathroom at all..... Dude, I had to go twice in less than an hour. I guess I broke the seal and he didn't.
We played around outside China, taking pictures and goofing off.
Can you see Andy's little blurry head back there??
Then we walked through the store, making more mental notes of things we might like to get later in the trip. Then I realized how late it was getting. We needed to get outside and find a good spot for Illuminations.
There's just something so special to me, a feeling that just eats me up, when I hear that pre show music start up. And then when the fires light up.....you know it's close! We found a great little spot right outside China and set up camp. Literally.... I had to set up my monopod and Andy was trying to make space for his camera bag and the big bag with the box holding the stein
Finally the show started and I knew I was home! I just love looking around the WS lagoon and taking in the show, the music, the pavilions. It's so magical! And to be there with your sweetie makes it even more special!
After the show the plan was to catch the monorail to the MK for the evening EMH. Before we did that we stopped at the Fountain to officially say goodbye to the wand. Andy video-ed it so I need to work on uploading a video clip for today. That will be posted later.
The last night it was lit up in all it's glory....
Then we wanted to stop by Guest Relations and see if there was some way we could have the stein sent back to our room. I didn't want poor Andy keeping up with it for the rest of our night at the MK. They sent us to Mouse Gear and they said "Sure we can do it" and the proceeded to rip into the box and all the packing to scan it. Ummm. slight problem....there's no bar code on it people. We bought it a the table in a restaurant. "Okay, no problem, we can scan your receipt". Here's where you have to know that Andy has become a MAJOR BUDGET NERD in our house and he keeps EVERY receipt.... except this one. He left it on the table with the $20 to cover the stein price and tip for it and service and we just left. Blame it on the liter I suppose...... So they had to write it up and do all this crapola that felt like it was taking forever. Finally, it was all settled and we were on our way towards the monorail.
