The Mighty Morphing Birthday Trip - Thread 1 - COMPLETE (last update 7/30) - Page 29 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I forgot to mention earlier about the people at the pool. This family, they had to be from Jersey, no offense to anyone from Jersey, but you could tell by how she talked (and she was very very very loud.....not that that makes her Jersey....her accent did). Just note she was very very LOUD!
People have to remember that we're soft spoken, quiet, Southerners
So, we get on the bus to go to Epcot, and who should we find......yes.... loud Jersey lady and her whole frickin' family.
Who were spread out through the entire bus b/c her husband didn't want to sit next to her.
She kept telling him to come sit with her.....correction...yelling at him to come sit with her, but he never did... Go figure.
Anyhoo, we listened to them go on and on and her yell at the kid a mile down the bus who her favorite character was so far and finally we made it to Epcot...
I should add that I've had a here at home and I just did a fab representation of her on the bus... the kid said something about how dad was her favorite and the lady starts yelling "Honey, he's my favorite character too...he's Beast and I'm the Beauty" As annoying as it was, we sure are getting a good laugh remembering it.
That's just the bus ride.... we're not finishing this anytime soon...
We have to, the Ghosthunters come on in 28 minutes.....
no 18 minutes
Yeah, that's right... whoops...
SO... moving on. It takes awhile when one must take the bus from WL to ANYWHERE....b/c one must stop at Ft. W took pick up everybody else. SO we learned to leave an hour before our ADR b/c of this moment....
First, we stopped and ooh'd and awww'd the last real day of the wand. We stopped at the photopass guy who was the SAME GUY we had LAST summer in the SAME spot!
He must be hot and tired standing there for a whole year
He was amazed by my 6 mickey ear tattoo on my foot so he preceded to photo it.
While people stood around wondering why he was photo-ing her foot.
Then we decided that since I'd never ridden Spaceship Earth, we'd better get a ride in before it was closed for the rest of the trip.
We quickly learned why it was going under rehab.. I mean, I LOVE Jeremy Irons. I LOVE LOVE LOVE him, but I couldn't hear much of what he had to say!! He was telling me something while the chick in each scene was telling me something else at the same time! It was neat to ride it though.
I have two ears, but only one brain.
Anyway, I'm glad we rode it, we'll see what happens when it opens again.
SO, we were TRUCKIN' it from the front of the park to Germany for our ADR. I mean, I was having to really hobble along on the injured foot. But I was sucking it up and I was making it. For a second there, I thought I was trucking it faster than Andy. I mean, here I was, injured and junk, and he was like 5 paces behind.....but then I found out that he just dropped my camera lens cover and had stopped to pick it up...
and was still able to keep up only 5 paces behind...
So, we get to Germany, all nice and sweaty, and stinky and what not. I don't know why I even bothered to ever fix my hair on this trip.....
me neither
We checked in. Had to wait a little bit but not too long. Some random old dude sat by Andy and talked to him ALOT.
Finally we were called back by the cute German guy that I had silently thought was cute.
I commented to her that she probably thought he was cute
Which I thought was very strange..... Anyway, I like nerdy cute guys for some reason, and he was. When he called us we had to really strain and look like idiots to understand what he was telling us. I didn't wanna come across like a dumb American in front of the cute German.
We were sat with a family of 5. There were 3 kids, two of which belonged to the couple, and the third was a Russian girl. This family take her in every summer (this was their second summer with her) because she lives in the area of Chernobyl. Apparently by spending 6 weeks here in America her life span is extended by 2 years. We couldn't believe the story we were hearing. It's amazing what some people go through and what other people do.
On a lighter note, we immediately ordered our liter of beer a piece. You have to understand that Andy doesn't really like that kind of beer. Light colored, hoppy tasting beer is not his thing.
You know, whenever you drink a liter of something you're gonna end up liking it anyhow. And I had to keep up with Melissa or I would have gotten ragged about it the rest of the trip!
The food was really good. I was surprised by my trying new things and liking them. The band was entertaining.... especially when I had to stand up in the spotlight while they sang Happy Birthday...
We had total flashbacks of the dance Clark Griswold does in National Lampoon's European Vacation
I was proud of myself, I was able to finish my beer before dessert
It took Andy a little longer but he did it as well
We took a self shot by sitting the camera on a stair post thing..
A waitress saw that and volunteered to take a picture for us in front of the water wheel...
After dessert...
remember I got one of everything for you
It was A LOT of GOOD desserts! I could only take a bite of each one...and I felt bad leaving good dessert on the table.
I took a picture on the way out...
And a few pictures in and around Germany...
We went into the shops and looked around. I found a clock that I made mental note of to come back and get later for my dad's birthday...
Andy found a hat...
Lucky for me he didn't buy it...
I liked it, I thought it looked cool....
After that we made our way on around the WS. We'll update more with that later. Right now it's Pizza and Ghosthunter time
Great update! Biergarten sounds like a lot of fun!! I also noticed that Melissa finished her beer before Andy!! You two must have been feeling pretty good after all that!! Can't wait to hear more!!
Loving your TR. I'm also a BIG Ghosthunter fan, I have a couger crush(meaning they are waaaayyyy to young for me) on Tango and Steve. I love your pictures, that is the first I have seen of the Beirgarten, and that waitress took a really good picture of you guys. I'm thinking we may be hearing more about the loud Jersey family.

Through his page you might find Steve and Tango's! I have Jason on mine as well as Grant
Great updates! Your pictures of WL are so beautiful and making me homesick, but I have to tell myself that it is time to try a new resort.
I can't believe that you've never been in Spaceship Earth before. Glad you got a chance to try it, before it changes and I your pics of it! Biergarten looks and sounds like fun, I can't wait to try it out in less than 3 weeks. Andy so should have bought that hat!

We had a similar family that followed us around from WL - - on a bus to MGM one morning this guy chawing on a toothpick sat in front of us with his arm around his wife, but was actually more in my face. I was just mesmerized how he held that toothpick in his mouth for the entire trip. We see them later at Primetime Cafe and he has that same toothpick - - and then I swear he was at AK the next day with that same toothpick. I would hit Thom everytime and say "There's toothpick guy."
I'm so glad that you guys had fun at the Biergarten - - I cannot believe you drank that entire liter of beer - - this coming from a non-beer drinker. I believe that you sit either at the same time we had or very close by!
Another great update! I am so enjoying your perspectives on everything in the World. You've got me wanting to try Biergarten now. It's one of the few in WS that we haven't tried yet.
I think it should be park specific....and you should be able to choose.... for me..
MK: Splash Mtn. music
Epcot: Illuminations pre show music
MGM: Tower of Tower hotel area music
AK: Discovery Island area music
What a great idea! I think you girls have come up with something BIG!
I can't believe that you have never been to SSE! Is there a reason you have never been to it before?
About Roaring Forks.....we really enjoyed the food. We would catch a sandwich and share it while sitting down by the pool. It is a small space......I can understand how at lunch time, it could be extremely crowded!
Now........about those large steins of beer! WOW! All I can say is - that is alot of beer! I did read that part to Allen and showed him the picture. He was totally impressed at your ability to down the entire litre! He gives you a 4 THUMBS UP rating!
Can't wait for another great update!
