Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Just getting caught up on the entire TR. Sounds wonderful so far! And I'm glad to see that you were able to re-visit 'The Grand' for some afternoon tea. Can't wait for more videos and photos!

I'm with Ann - - I would have left Thom outside in a split second to check out the lobby. You're a sweetheart of a wife!

Your room looks great and the location sounds wonderful!

Day Three, Part Two

Just a note, Andy's home and we're writing this part together. Andy wants you to know that the funny quips that you read are thanks to his two cents. (That was all me by the way ) My part will still be blue....his will be green.

After getting settled in to our room it was time to head out and really get this party started. We made our way to the bus stop, after a few "where are we supposed to go" attempts b/c of construction....and there'll be more on the topic of the bus stops and how to get to them later in this report. It definitely turns into a "DOH" moment!

The numeral uno item on our list was for me to go ahead and blow $200 of my supplement check first thing I was sooo excited! I headed straight to a ticket booth thingy and told the chick behind the glass "UPGRADE ME Baby!" Well I didn't really say it like that. Anyway, Andy is saying that pomp and circumstance should have been playing in the background. It was fabulous! I was so excited (and still am).

While I'm talking about the AP, Andy has quite an issue with the AP. I'm going to switch over and let him speak.....

Well, first off, you spend $400+ dollars on this thing, and they hand you over this little paper ticket that they expect to sit in your wallet through Kali, Splash, Dinosaur, all these rides that could potentially get you wet or seriously mess up your personal belongings. You are expected to keep this thing for a frickin' year. I've got business cards that I've had for a year that look like they've been through the ringer and back. All I'm saying is you should get what you pay for. I think the AP should eventually become a plastic card....and shiny. So when you pull it out it reflects the sun and catches people's eye and they'll look over and think "look at that, she's an AP holder" and they'll be green with envy....

Okay, now that I've pushed Andy off his soapbox.... I have to say I do agree. It's kinda like how some of you feel about your gold concierge key..... I think the AP should hold some status as a ticket

You could make it silver as to not overshadow those dang concierge people.

Anyhoo, I was still very happy to have my AP. And off we went!

We did our usual walking down towards TOT. We decided to walk through the shops on the left this time, rather than the right, to keep cool. Once we got to where the store on the corner of Sunset and Hollywood is we crossed the street.

It's tradition to cut through there, try on some stupid hats, and make our way to the TOT.

We weren't sure what to expect walking up on the TOT, but I was very happy to see the 20 min. wait sign. So we headed on in. Oh how it feels like the trip has officially begun once we ride this ride!!! It's fab!! (Andy's trying to bring back "fab" from when the Beatles were big) I love it I love it I love it!

After TOT we made our way over to the Animation Academy (and we were still sticking to the notecards just so ya know)

We had to wait a bit before the next showing.

I tried to convince Melissa to go see the Playhouse Disney show, but she wasn't quite up for that........

We played around with the things that told you what character you are most like. Since Andy chose to eat nice people for lunch he was Gaston. I ended up being Belle.... same movie....but not quite the happy ending

Anyway.... We messed around with the face thingys. And we came up with this....

Andy made the comment that this lady had been eating the Burger King Southwestern tendercrisp chicken burger thing

Then we sat around and rested before it was time to draw...

We saw the Incredibles come out and pose for pictures. Mrs. Incredible came out and she was frickin' huge. She was very tall and ...... she dwarfed me... I'm not a tall guy, but I'm not short either... I think Mr. Incredible is taking steroids to keep up with her!

I said she had to be a chick b/c she had this tiny waist....and she was curvy.... and Andy says that I said she had a big behind But I don't remember that

Moving on..... then it was time head inside... We were able to draw Goofy this time. We've been lucky enough to draw a different character each time and I think I've gotten progressively worse while Andy gets better and better. My first ever drawing experience was Mickey and it kicked Andy's Mickey's butt..... however, Pooh last year and Goofy this year....they were just plain pitiful.

After that it was time to give the Backlot Tour a go again... We've only done this once it was back in 2005.

We're determined to volunteer ourselves....well I should say volunteer Andy, one day in the future

On the ride they've added the POTC ball cages which was cool

And when we rode it last the Stunt Show was just being set up, so this time we got to see it in action behind the scenes which was cool!

Then it was time for Catastrophe Canyon. I took a sequence of shots of the water..

When we toured the museum afterwards I saw Darth Vader giving me the evil eye so I had no choice but to use the force on him. You can tell by this picture he's startled by the lack of movement.

After that it was getting close to lunch time so we made our way towards the exit. We came across Hubert Hayseed trying to make his way to Hollywood. This lady from the UK was totally messing with him the whole time. Talk of prime ministers turned into talk of eating prime rib. I'm going to include his whole little bit on the video b/c it's too funny!

Then we went on out to wait on the bus...

And I had to get Andy to take my picture with my paper AP...

Coming up.... Video will be posted for the WL and then MGM....

I have to say that Scott and I couldn't agree with you more on this issue. I love the idea of silver, too! Or maybe even sparkly so it looks like diamonds! But you can't tell me that Disney would lose that much profit by using plastic for their APs instead of those crappy pieces of cardboard. On top of that, DH added that with all the extra trips they get out of an AP holder - they should be willing to do the 10% discount in all Disney gift shops, not just WoD!

Loving the TR so far!!! WL really is a WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! kind-of resort!

Great updates Melissa and Andy. So did you buy the pirate hat that Andy thought was the sexiest thing he ever saw? LOL!
I have to agree with Andy on the cardboard AP card. Why can't it be like your Key to the World?

My thoughts exactly! The last time we bought an AP I was extremely disappointed that it wasn't even as nice as the card you get if you just stay for a few days. My dh just reminded me that the AP we bought when we were married in 1994 WAS plastic...very similar to a credit card, and even had our picture on the back. Anyway, I just had to comment because I totally agree with you guys about it and felt sort of like... Finally! Someone else noticed!

Glad to hear that you enjoyed the WL. It's fab...and our absolute favorite!

Just got caught up with your TR Melissa and Andy!!! First off, I love your YouTube Videos! Your trip has been so magical so far. The CG dinner with the Wishes Fireworks are just so romantic. The parasailing looks awesome and the GF tea is one of my favorite things to do. I was so excited to see that you both upgraded your passes to AP's!!! I know when we spoke at the Christmas PP meet in 2005 you told me your dream was to go to WDW at least a couple of times each year and now you have to make that come true to get your monies worth. Hope your enjoying the WL - it's one of my favorite resorts to stay at. Can't wait to read more. Hurry back.

I actually expressed my disappointment to Disney about the tawdry state of the APs and was told that they were deliberately made that way and they are covered in some thin layer of plastic stuff that makes them more resistant than any other card.

I say stuff all that and give me a platinum plated, diamond encrusted piece of loveliness.

By the way, we still say 'fab' a lot here in the North of England.
