Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Can Anyone Recommend good walking shoes?

Our family is travelling to Orlando in a few weeks and I would welcome any advice on what kind of shoes to wear to prevent blisters and such. It is myself, my DH, 13 yo DD, and 5 yo DS. We have been to WDW and US before, but the last couple times we went, the kids really weren't into the water rides. Now they are really excited about them. Since we bought the 7 day unlimited US/IOA passes, we will be spending a lot of time there. My hubby says we should just wear tennis shoes and socks like we always have and we will be fine. However, I am concerned about the prospect of walking around in wet shoes/socks all day.

Has anyone ever worn Crocs or similar shoes all day with success at US/IOA? We all (except DH) have a pair and I find them very comfy and breathable. Not to mention, waterproof! Any thoughts?

PS. We are not staying onsite, so it wouldn't be practical for us to go back to the hotel and change.

There are loads of visitors wearing Crocs at US/IOA. I can't speak from personal experience, but it certainly looks like they weren't having any issues with them.

Welcome to the Passporter boards and the Universal forum heartfelthome!!

I've taken my shoes off on Pluto's Bilge Rat Barges, and put them into the waterproof carrier. Or you can take off your socks during the ride so they stay dry. I agree, I hate walking around in wet socks!

One thing we did on one of our trips was to plan 1 day for all water rides. We wore our swim suits under our clothes and rode all the wet rides. Then we didn't have to worry with it the rest of the trip!

Never worn crocs, so can't help you there!

First, .
And now, to answer your question. My DH and I wore our Crocs at WDW and, for the most part they were great. Towards the end of the trip, I got a small blister, but I think that was when I wore my other sandals and not my Crocs (I can't remember what I had on that day). We've had lots of rain here lately and I've noticed that when my Crocs are wet, my feet slide around in them and I find it a little harder to walk. If you've worn yours in the rain and they're not a problem, I think you'll be fine at the parks.

Welcome to the boards! I've worn my Crocs at the parks at WDW but only with socks. I can't wear Crocs without socks since that gives me bad blisters.

What we did for wet rides (i.e. Kali River Rapids at AK) is to bring along a towel, take off our socks, ride the wet ride, then dry the Crocs with the towel afterwards and put the socks back on to keep walking.

I never knew Pluto had his own ride, especially at Universal! But at Popeye and Bluto's Bilge Rat Barges and any of the water rides, you have to leave you shoes and shirt when you board and for the duration of the ride.

I usually wear Tevas when walking the parks. They dry off pretty quickly after getting soaked. However, if I wear them too long, my ankle start to hurt.

I see people wearing Crocs. I personally think they're ugly, but they seem comfortable.

I have always been a Teva girl. (still am) However, I recently bought a pair of Keen's, and let me tell ya....heaven. They are the sandal type, sorta like Teva's but with a little more style. There are all kinds but I have the Keen Catalina in purple. They are a hybrid sandal- for land and water.

Do a search and Check them out!

Good luck!

We've worn our Crocs to Six Flags over Texas, Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO, Dollywood, Disneyland, WDW, and Universal and I'd never wear anything else... Make SURE they are REAL Crocs and not knock-off brands from Wal-Mart, etc. There really is a difference in the products. I've worn the knock-off's and they give me blisters. I've never had a blister wearing the REAL Crocs. I usually wear them without socks in the parks. When they get wet on the water rides, they dry out very quickly.

Z-Coils for Bad Knees

I have bad knees so a lot of walking and they start to ache. Crocs are great b/c they're so lightweight, but the VERY BEST shoes I've found for walking a ton are Z-Coils. They literally have springs in the heels, so they take a lot of pressure off your step. The bad part is, if you think Crocs are ugly...these aren't any better. Plus they're SUPER expensive (I paid $200 for mine -- the most I've ever paid for shoes). However, I justified it that we were paying over $300 for one day of park for our family and if I was hurting or couldn't make it, that money would be wasted. I've worn them to Disney and to an annual tradeshow where I had to walk for 8 hours, three days straight, on cement floors.
