Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Friday, July 6: Day One, Part One ~ Here we gooooooo

Well we decided that we should go ahead and get an early start on our departure.
We were up, ready, and in the car by a little after 6am. Then it was time to get settled in for the loooong drive ahead of us. We made a few stops along the way. We had to stop and fill up on gas twice and we made a stop at the big BK. The stop at the BK put us a little behind b/c we had a wonderful (NOT) lady in front of us who thought it was a brilliant idea to let the 3 little children she was with order for themselves. It took for frickin' ever! And everytime they ordered something she'd jump in and say no that they had to get something else... well why don't you just order for them woman??

Anyways... That being our only real roadblock we arrived in the Disney bubble a little before 3. After a wrong turn off the interstate in the DTD area we found our hotel for the night, The Hotel Royal Plaza. We pulled up and checked in. Our room was in the garden wing area, second floor, overlooking the pool which was neat. I took a few photos of the room itself while Andy went to get our luggage.

It was very..... green..... But it was a nice room and bathroom. And definitely worth the $84 for the night!! (Thanks to mousesavers for that rate )

Unfortunately it started to storm outside and I am amazed at how long some people will stay in the pool while it's coming up a storm... I'm pretty sure the guy we were watching waited until the very last second possible to get out. We're talking major lightning and thundering and downpour here people, and he was still in the pool with a little kid playing!

Anyhoo, we used the rainy time to shower and get ready for a night at DTD. Sadly, it was still raining when we left, but our hopes were for some clear skies.

We decided to drive to DTD b/c the buses from the HRP to DTD didn't start running until 6pm and it was around 5:00ish and we were ready to go. Once we got there we parked outside the WOD and went in to mentally shop around (and to also try and find an umbrella). We were successful in both attempts. I did some "ohh I want that later, and ohhh I have to remember that" and we found a cute Mickey umbrella to keep us dry.

We walked over to the Pin store so I could get the 5th Anniversary Stitch pin that had come out a few weeks ago. It was so hot and humid in there b/c of the rain that I had to get out quick. So we made a fast purchase and then headed over to Raglan Road to get in out of the rain. We decided we couldn't wait any longer for a nice cool beverage and those Dalkey Duos so we thought we'd try our hand at getting a seat. Success! So we were able to get in out of the rain and enjoy some good food and drink. The plan was to split the Dalkey's and then split an entree, but were so full after the Dalkey's and the drinks that we called it a meal.

The music at Raglan Road didn't start up until 9 and it was only around 7 so we figured that since the rain had finally stopped we'd head out and walk around the shops some. Andy wanted to go ahead and pick up our Cirque tickets while we were there so that was part of the plan as well. Then we'd head back to catch some good Irish music

I took a few pictures outside Raglan Road...

And then, you won't believe what happened next.... I think I might let Andy tell it b/c it's just too painful to remember..

Coming up ~ More of our night at DTD

So I guess Melissa wants me to summarize the event that followed, the step heard around the World!

So Melissa gets into this photo state where it’s like she’s constantly seeing through the lens of her SLR. If you’ve ever been outside of Raglan Road then you know that there is a six foot high curb all painted yellow and what not to attract peoples attention...hazard folks, hazard. First off I must say that this is a design flaw on Disney’s part. We’re talking Raglan Road, an Irish Pub! There should be a ramp with a gentile decline surrounding the entire building. For stumbling drunks a curb like this might as well been the Great Wall of China, an impassible fortress keeping troublemakers at bay!

But here’s the bad part...Melissa was no where near drunk or even tipsy. She just didn’t see the curb and stepped forward as if the ground continued. What fallowed was a chain of events that would linger in the back of Melissa’s mind of the rest of the trip. Can I tell you exactly what happened? No!!! And why is that? Because my face was buried in the viewfinder of my surgically attached video camera! I’m so ashamed, what kind of husband am I? All I know if that I heard a shriek and then I saw Melissa looking around to make sure no one saw her. She played it off as nothing but I could tell that it really hurt. So we tried to “walk it off.” I felt so bad for her. This was fall #4 that I’ve witnessed from Melissa. She beats herself up about being clumsy but she shouldn’t. It happens to everyone once in a while...4 falls in ten years is not too bad Melissa!

Your turn...

Oh dear! Sorry about the fall, Melissa. I'm a falling kind of person, too. You wanna see the bruise on my foot from my kerb stone trip at Saratoga Springs...

Sounds like we were at DTD right at the same time. I'm wishing we'd organised a meet now - oh well.

Anyway, I kind of like the Royal Plaza room. I find green a serene kind of colour. And what a bargain!

Can't wait for more.

Okay, Andy's version of events makes me not feel so bad for being such a klutz. I really did feel like such a nerd, I mean really people, I'd been in my Disney bubble for a total of like 3 hours and already I screwed something up The wonderful thing is I had already had a so that helped ease the pain a little. And there was NO WAY I would let on that it hurt really bad. So, I made us truck on. I figured I was walking on it, so it must not be too bad, and if I kept walking on it then it wouldn't be able to tighten up and get worse.... Yeah...that was my thinking.....

So we made our way down towards the water, and since I didn't learn my lesson the first time, I continued to live life through a lens (Just for you Andy and Sarah and Cheryl - and any other Robbie fans out there ) and took some more photos..

Andy went up and picked up our tickets..

And we made our way down towards Pleasure Island stopping to look at some of the shops...

Andy wanted to go into Starabilia's and we located some fantabulous Beatles memorabilia. Even though there was A BIG OLE sign that said no photography or videoing, Andy couldn't contain himself. He was "getting some good footage here" (if you're not watching Flight of the Conchords, then you should!). He came across some really neat items, and I'll let him tell you about them when he returns.

By now I was beginning to feel the tight feeling in my foot get worse. I didn't want to admit that I screwed it up big time, so I sucked it up and we headed back to the bloody scene. We were lucky enough to grab a spot at the table where the Irish dancer dances so we settled in for the long haul. I'm not sure how many we had a piece, I just know that we had a good time. Johnny, the percussionist and singer, remembered us from last year and thanks to the tricks Angie has up her sleeve, he came over and spoke to us for a bit. We stayed until closing at 2am and then headed back to the hotel. By now I was really hobbling and really beginning to think I was in trouble. Andy promised he'd push me around if need be, but I was determined for that not to happen. So after some tears and listening to Andy fuss about there's no crying at Disney, he wrapped some ice on it and we went to bed.

Here are a few pictures from the night...

If you haven't checked out the band, Tusker Rock, at Raglan Road before, I highly recommend it. It makes for a really fun night of entertainment!!

I think Andy gives it a cheers! (or perhaps 2 Guinesses up??)

And just because I'm in a silly mood, I have photo evidence of my pitiful foot. In my tipsy, upset stage at the hotel I made Andy take a picture... I am a PP'er afterall, so I had to document it...

In case you can't tell, it's the foot that's all pretty and RED! Thank goodness it wasn't the mickey ear foot right??

Coming up ~ Look, I can do this.....

You should have responded as follows: "I'm not crying -- it's just raining on my face!" (We love the Flight of the Conchords too!.)

Love the update, Melissa and Andy! I hope the fall doesn't cause further problems for you for your birthday!
