Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Top Baby Names for 2001
I get soooo depressed when I see DD name in the top 10. I picked out the name 20 years ago, thanks to Alexis Carrington from Dynasty. Who knew after all these years it would be so popular. (Who knew it would take me 20 years to have a child) It's not that I mind how common the name is now, I just hate the confusion in public places! LOL

Re: Top Baby Names for 2001
HA! Nala, I know how you feel - we picked our kids' names out only to discover they were just about at the top of every chart! My daughter's name, Brittany, has fallen in the ranks, but Justin is still right up there, and - hello - Joshua is still like #2 or #3! LOL! I don't really care because I love their names and we chose them for reasons other than they were in the top ten!
And by the way, Alexis was a top choice had we ever had another girl! Great name!

Re: Top Baby Names for 2001
Glad to report that neither of my sons' names made the top 100. By the way their names are Scott and Keith.

Re: Top Baby Names for 2001
Neither of the names we chose are on the list. Stella or Donovan. Although I'm still trying to talk my DH into Stellaluna. Yes, it's a book, but it's also Italian for Starry Moon, according to my Popop.
BTW - my name is still on the list and has been for like the last 25 years straight!!! I had the most uncreative parents. I'm named after the actress who played the secretary from the old TV show "The Courtship of Eddie's Father", the actress who played Ginger from "Gilligan's Island", and my Mimi Louise who passed away last summer.
DH is named after his dad and grandpa.

Re: Top Baby Names for 2001
That's fun to start - who are you named after!?
My full name is Steven Dale. Steven (I go by Steve) was given to me for some individuality but Dale was my Uncle's name. He was killed in a plane crash in March of 1967 - 5 months before I was born. Never knew him, but proud to be named after him.
My kids all have "individual" first names and we carried the tradition of using middle names to honour others. My oldest son is Justin Thomas - Dale's name was Dale Thomas, so we named Justin after Dale, too. Brittany is Brittany Amanda - Amanda being my wife's grandmother's name. And Joshua William has William from both my maternal grandfather AND my wife's maternal grandfather. Kinda cool, eh?
How about the rest of ya'll? Any special meaning behind your name or others in your family?!?

Re: Top Baby Names for 2001
My name is Amanda Beth, (first name is on the list) My parents named me Amanda but really wanted to name me just Mandy, my parents liked the infamous Barry Manilow song. My dad's mom had a fit and said my parents couldn't just name me a nick name so they went with Amanda. Now everyone including her calls me Mandy. It's not a bad name but it is a curse esp working in customer service where atleast once a day I get serenaded by men, quoted lyrics from the song or told of Barry's general concert information!! My middle name is for My grandmother (mom's mom) Elizabeth.

Re: Top Baby Names for 2001
We can't decide on names (but then we can't decide if we want kids either so that's okay ). I would actually use this list to make sure that my choices weren't in the top 25 because I loved the fact that I was the only Allison when I was a kid! There weren't very many Kevin's (DH) then either!
I was named after AA because my parents got pregnant w/me after my dad successfully completed the program (20 years after my brother was born ). He wanted me to be Anne but my mom nixed that one (thankfully). She gave him Anne for the middle name which is fine. DH was named after some actor I think but his middle name is his Dad's first name--that is a family tradition on his Dad's side, one we won't be continuing!
What a fun topic!

Re: Top Baby Names for 2001
My kids were named after no one in particular. Bobby is #38 and Kim is #70. Neither of us wanted "trendy" names for the kids. My MIL wanted our son to be George Henry III. I nixed that in a hurry. My DS middle name is George though, after his father, grandfather and my mother's father.

Re: Top Baby Names for 2001
My future children will be named either Marguerite Roseanna (Maggie) or Scott Davis (Davis). Marguerite is DH's grandmother's name, and my middle name is Rose (named after my great-grandmother, Roseanna). My FIL is named Scott and Davis is my maiden name.
For some reason I'm very hung up on naming my kids after someone...for my entire life I've endured an endless stream of questions and bad pickup lines associated with my name...and the bottom line is that I was named after someone my parents barely knew who volunteered in my brother's preschool (they just liked the name). Not a very good story for something that's a continual topic of conversation.

Re: Top Baby Names for 2001
DD, Rebekah is #42. She is named after Rebekah in the bible. I knew when I was about 15 that if I had a daughter she would be named that her middle name is Lynn. It just kinda went and is my middle name. About 2 weeks after she was born, Bryan White came out with the song, Rebecca Lynn.
DS, Zachary is #17. We were sticking with the biblical theme but our first choice was Noah. That name just didn't fit him. His middle name is Austin because DH lived in TX for a while and Austin was his favorite city.
I' not sure where ny name, Kristen, came from but I was almost Kirsten. Mom changed it at the last minute.

Re: Top Baby Names for 2001
Aurora1429, my DH's middle name is Austin! Like I said in an earlier post, he's a Jr. and wants a III, but I would rather name my son something different!
We've kicked Austin around as a first name as well!
Also, if you guys like this 'How'd you get your name' theme we've got going, do a search for a similar post topic I started sometime last year in 'Off Topic'. There were a ton of replies!

Re: Top Baby Names for 2001
We have three wonderful daughters. They weren't really names after anyone. Caitlin Elizabeth, Meagan Michelle, and my favorite name, Brennan Taylor. Lots of times people confuse her name for Brendan or without seeing her, they think that she is a boy!
I was named after both of my grandmothers, Amanda and Jean. Never really liked my middle name, but how could I complain?!?
