As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Keep your fingers crossed for us!!!..................
Our daughter (who will be 22 next month) has finally submitted ALL her PAPERWORK today for placement in the Army National Guard! The recruiter stopped by the house this morning, looked over all information and said she will put it into the computer this afternoon and submit it tomorrow.
Shannon will be leaving Thursday morning @ 4:15 with the recruiter to take her enterance physical & whatever else they put her through....hehehehehe. She is in a way looking forward to going away but is scared at the same time (I can understand this) I am wondering if she will also get sworn in on this day too? Needless to say, we are looking forward to this as she needs some additional help in growing up! I believe she will do her basic training in MO if all goes well....
SO PLEASE KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED FOR US!

Debe,
I am keeping my fingers crossed for your daughter. Why is it that they always pick them up so early in the morning?!

Re: Keep your fingers crossed for us!!!..................
Hope it works for your daughter and you.
I work with a woman whose son just barely got out of high school. Then all he wanted to do was hang out in the village. Last year he joined the NY Army National Guard. Not long after he finished his training, he decided he liked it. He got a transfer to the Regular Army and is now in Germany. What a difference in that young man. He is doing great.

Thank you for the good wishes!
Disnydad You made my day!!! I hope it happens to her!
Kathy, we are about 2 hours from Ft. Dix, NJ where she will be having her physical. I think they will be starting first thing in the morning. She is not too excited about getting up that early but her dad is use to doing that when he has to be up there first thing in the morning.
As soon as we hear ANYTHING, I will let you all know but keep those fingers crossed.... and maybe a little pixie dust thrown her way might be good too! Thanks again

Re: Keep your fingers crossed for us!!!..................
Good luck to your daughter, Debe! My DH spent 3 years on Recruiter duty. I remember those early mornings when he had to meet people at the recruiting station to take them to MEPS. If all goes well with her physical, she will be sworn in on the same day. She'll also get to choose her job and will be given dates for basic training. My DH is now at the other end (Drill Instructor)so again he has early mornings. He loves it! He has an excellent rapport with young people.

Re: Keep your fingers crossed for us!!!..................
The fingers are crossed and best of luck! It takes me back 5 years when my daughter enlisted in the Reserves. She also did her basic in MO at Fort Leonard Wood. Stacie doesn't like to get up early either! It makes you wonder why they would opt to go in the Army! They see the challenge, accept the challenge and do their best! Please tell Shannon I wish her the best!

Re: Keep your fingers crossed for us!!!..................
GoofyKids123, She wants to be some kind of Nuclear Biological Chemical Warfare Specialist(not sure If I have the title exactly right), then if not that a mechanic or truck driver. If she makes it through everything she will be in her dads unit. He is the First Sargent for the 253rd Transportation unit here in Cape May Court House. She wants to go on for OCS to become an officer someday so that her dad will have to salute her (that's my girl)
I think all kids should go through this training right after H.S....maybe if they did, there wouldn't be so many kids in trouble as there are in todays day!

My fingers andtoes are crossed!
I have had a few students that, shall I say, needed a little jump start on a little growth. After joining the military, regardless of the branch, they have turned into responsible adults.
I'm excited for Shannon, and mom and Dad, or course!

Re: Keep your fingers crossed for us!!!..................
How exciting for all of you! I think it's terrific that she wants to grow up to have Dad salute her. She's a very brave kid for trying. Even with my DH being active duty Air Force for thirteen years, I'm pretty positive I would have never had the nerve to even think of joining. Good luck to the whole family. By the way, did I tell you that we used to be stationed at McGuire around 1992? Fort Dix always seemed like such a ghost town to me; I hate it when they "shut down" a base, but don't really completely shut it down. My mom lives near Ft Harrison in Indiana and it is the same thing, kinda spooky!

Re: Keep your fingers crossed for us!!!..................
Here's another set of crossed fingers for you, Debe!
I soooo hope your daughter is able to join up and pursue this new challenge. Both of my brothers were in the Army, and I think it changed them both for the better. It (the military) certainly gives a person a sense of discipline, responsibility, and integrity.
Please keep us posted!

Re: Keep your fingers crossed for us!!!..................
Our DD left for basic training right after finishing her junior year in high school! She was in ROTC and was really pumped up. She was also at Fort Leonard Wood in MO. She breezed thru basic. She has now been released from her reserve duty but we feel the whole experience was a very beneficial one for her. She is a self sufficient, independent, strong willed responsible young adult and we are very proud of her. I wish you and your DD the best. mary

Good luck to you all. I like a person that wants Dad to salute her . That's the spirit to go in with and I'm betting she'll do great!
