As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

After you get back -- how do you keep the Magic alive?
Hello, Everyone!
I am really down today -- it is exactly a week since I got home from our really wonderful, magical WDW vacation.... all the planning, reading, re-planning, anticipation, and then the almost-perfect vacation... And now I am really sad! My kids and I played all day with their WDW toys (they all pitched in some of their spending money to get the Mickey Pirates of the Caribbean play sets -- TOO CUTE!!!), and we ate the last of the Mickey Rice Crispy treats we had left over from our Snack Credits. I have been working on my trip report today so I can get it posted over on the forum. I even put in the Disney Planning DVD while I was loading the dishwasher tonight.... I think I have it bad!!!
I know that it will be at least 2 years or so until we get to go back -- maybe that is what has me sad (my DH isn't as big of a Disney fan as I am and wants to do something else next year -- IMAGINE!). Anyway, we had such a wonderful time -- I don't want to "lose the Magic". Any advice? What do you all do to keep the Magic after you get home?
Shannon

Re: After you get back -- how do you keep the Magic alive?
We talk about Disney EVERY DAY!!! Honestly, not a day goes by that we don't mention it somehow. Right now, we're working on a Mickey puzzle (VERY hard!!! It's a mosaic and there are thousands of little film clips that make up a large photo of Mickey -- ugh!). We also watch the planning videos, movies and play the Disney board games we have bought over the years.
It's awful when you don't have a Disney trip to plan and I have found that I do better by not getting on the boards until I know I'm going to be headed south. It just makes me depressed!!!! Good luck!!!!

I agree with Karen - writing a trip report is a great way to keep the magic alive and to re-live your trip!

Re: After you get back -- how do you keep the Magic alive?
I look over all the pictures and souvenirs at least once a week. I watch at least one Disney movie a week. I strike up conversations with people with other Mickey clothes. I think and dream and plan until my next trip. It is a let down once we are back but we can always dream about the next trip.

Create a scrapbook with your photos so you and your kids can look at the memories and talk about them. Also playing game and doing puzzles are a great idea. I also love planning a future trip.

Scrapbook and I buy things down in Disney for Christmas so I feel like I've been there all over again.

Re: After you get back -- how do you keep the Magic alive?
NONE of my vacation stuff (souvenirs, pictures, guidemaps, other freebies, etc.) gets put away until my trip report is completely up on the boards. As I write my trip report, I organize all my stuff from that day of the trip. Also, I have to share with my family (in detail) all the things we did on the trip - they hate to see me coming for my post-trip visit!
I stay on the boards on a regular basis, in case I'm able to answer somebody's question based on my recent trip experience (which after a year since our visit I'm no longer qualified for ). In addition, being on the boards keeps you up-to-date on whatever changes Disney likes to throw our way. I found that it's easier to keep current than to try to come back a year or two later and try to figure out what all has changed. It's also a lot of fun to live through other people's trip reports.
Hey, if your next trip is only a couple of years away, that's no time at all! You better get busy planning! Seriously, it's never too early to begin putting together the bare bones structure of your next trip. Think about where you'd like to eat, or if there's any special activities you'd like to try next time. Before you know it the new issue of PassPorter (and any other of your favorite guidebooks) will be available to order. Speaking of books, there are now two WDW Trivia books available - check on Amazon's web site. That's a great and fun way to keep your favorite place on your mind, and learn more about WDW at the same time.
Watch movies, play Disney-themed games, have the kids come up with things they want to do on the next trip, and see how many of their ideas you can work into your itinerary.
Have fun!!!

I start writing a trip report that of course I never finish I also book and start paying and planning the next trip! That helps the time go by! These boards are also a big help!

Re: After you get back -- how do you keep the Magic alive?
The trip report is great. But put all you photos together and out where you can look at them when ever. It has been five year since my last Disney trip and let me tell you it does get easier and when you do get back you will be re planning it all and will love it. So no Disney world next year how about Disneyland that is some place Different. Just thinking out loud. Disney is here to stay and will always be in your heart. So just keep in mind it is a small world al live everyday has happy as Disney makes you that way you live many more years and many more trips to Disney.
