Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Hayley goes nation-wide!!!
I just heard today that my comic book (that I write) is going to be picked up for national distribution by Diamond Distribution.
What does that mean? It means that everyone in the nation will be able to go into a comic shop, and if it isn't already being carried in stores, they will be able to say, "Hey, order 'Shades of Blue' for me please."
Yay!! Maybe I will be able to quit this pesky day job!!!!

Re: Hayley goes nation-wide!!!
Congrats, Hayley! That's great news. You must be excited and proud. Tell us more... What's the comic book about? Come on, don't be modest, remember marketing and promotion are all part of business - believe me I know, I'm a freelance writer

Re: Hayley goes nation-wide!!!
Well...since you asked....
It's a black and white comic about a girl (Heidi) who woke up one day with blue hair and the power to (mostly) control electricity. Both her parents are psychiatrists, and they've moved to a new town to work at the mental institute there (part of deep, dark, secret subplot!)
But, basically, she's at a new high school, with blue hair, and no friends. She does have one best friend (K.T.) one nerd who has a crush on her (Marcus) and one total crush on a guy who barely knows she's alive (Jack).
In the town, kids are turning up with special powers--Jack can turn himself into a crystal substance, Ilsa (our ice skater) can freeze things, Elyana (our vixen) can control people's minds, and Ms. White (the English teacher) can control sound.
They provide Heidi, our hero, with ample opportunity to get beaten up. Until she meets the physics teacher, Mr. McMurtry. He helps her learn how to fight, and her friends help to support her as well. Marcus even does her laundry (but that's kinda creepy!)
Anyway, it's a book for people who don't like comics, who love comics, for girls, for boys, for anyone. (although girls really seem to like the book! My 12 year old cousin likes it, as well as her 14 year old brother.) Anyway, it's a good book. The site is www.ampcomics.com if anyone is interested.

Re: Hayley goes nation-wide!!!
I was hoping you would get recognized!
CONGRATULATIONS!
I haven't read a comic book in a long time and WILL have to look for it in our area.
Any idea when we should look for this? Shades of Blue will be easy for me to remember as we always stay at Shades of Green!
Congratulations Again & BEST WISHES to you on your current/future comic book career!

Re: Hayley goes nation-wide!!!
Shades will be (according to my info) in the next "Previews" guide at comic stores. "Previews" is put out by Diamond, and it's basically the catalogue for all comics--Diamond is THE distributor for EVERYONE.
Ask your friendly neighborhood comic store owner if he/she has the newest issue of "Previews" (not the Jan 2001 issue, the one after it - it won't be out for a while yet though)
Ask them to find AMP Comics. We're an independent publisher, so we might be tough to locate.
Swoon at our pretty cover.
Ask them to order the book, and call you when it comes in.
Ask them to keep ordering it (you will anyway, because you will fall in love with Heidi. She's great.)
Feel free to give it to children (I'd advise 9 & up). I am pretty aware of our audience, and try to write to kids as well as adults. Plus, we're on "Friends of Lulu"'s reading list. They promote people-friendly comics.
OR--visit the website. We can hook you up with the two earlier issues. Plus, you can read my silly bio. I'm the one with the Audrey Hepburn picture!
Thanks for everyone's good wishes and thoughts. I really wanted to tell my darling boyfriend, but he won't return from Ireland until the 12th. I know he'll be so happy for me!! It's a really big step for our book--we now are "real" comic book writers!!!! We've been working towards this for a long time, and it's hard to get accepted. They're very strict about who they carry.
Ok--I'm just going to gush more if I stay on!!! Thanks!!!!!

Re: Hayley goes nation-wide!!!
The site shouldn't be down--but my link may be off. Try just typing in the site address, or searching through Yahoo.
Dave--you're totally right--publishing independently is something else! We were rejected by them at first--because they didn't like our art!! (At least it wasn't the writing!!) But, thankfully, everything worked itself out in the end. Now the real fun begins!

Re: Hayley goes nation-wide!!!
Hey Hayley, I mean Audrey, I mean Rachel, nice website! Congratulations! Where is your boyfriend in Ireland? I was in Cavan last year, while my daughter was in college there. As soon as I recover from paying for my dog's surgery ($1,750.00!!ar#g&c%h*hr@gh!) I'll order them. Can't wait to read them. I write short stories and one long book about A.I.D.s.

Re: Hayley goes nation-wide!!!
That link to http://www.ampcomics.com should be working now - I took the liberty of removing the comma that had crept into the URL.
Note to everyone: This is one of those little gotchas. Since the boards automatically convert complete Web addresses into hyperlinks, be careful to not use punctuation marks adjacent to the address - the boards will consider them part of the URL and you'll have a non-working link. In other words, leave a space between the .com and the punctuation.
