As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Need ideas for a hunt.....
Excellent ideas, how about a scavenger hunt for the four resorts near the MK that you can get to via connecting transport (contemporary, GF, POly and WL). Thing to bring back might be a Magic Kingdom guidemap, a menu, duck food, a signature of a Cast Member named ______, the possibilities are limitless . Happy planning!

Need ideas for a hunt.....
In less than two weeks we're going to do a 3 day weekend (after a week at DVC Hilton Head) at WDW. We're not doing any of the parks though -- but will be spending all of our old unused "extras" for two days at the water parks. I'm looking for a fun way to spend some other time and thought about a photo scavenger hunt. What I need are the things to hunt. I was thinking the location would be either the resorts around 7 Seas or the Boardwalk. I know that the Wilderness Lodge has a printout for hidden Mickey's -- not sure if they other resorts (CR, Poly, Grand..) have similar. I know that I can come up with 3/4 per resort except for the Poly and can do something with the TTC too. We do have two digital cameras so I thought we divide up -- me with 2 kids and my wife with the other two and see what we can do in 1 1/2 hours.
If anyone has any suggestions -- I would appreciate it.

Re: Need ideas for a hunt.....
They have a hidden mickeys hunt at the AKL. You can pick up the sheet at the front desk. Also, how about a picture of a certain animal at the AKL for your hunt?

Re: Need ideas for a hunt.....
Hi Andy and welcome! That sounds like a great idea. Truthfully your options are limitless even if you don't enter a park, depending on how much time you want to spend on it. The photo scavanger hunt is always fun and then you don't have to worry about hauling things around with you.
Some examples include pictures of one of the team members with: metal Mickey ears at the Contemporary resort, in different lobbys or signs from different resorts, at different places in Downtown Disney, even in front of some of the parks (as long as the kids understand that they can't go in.)
I would say just about anything would be game. Depending on the ages of your kids you can make it harder or easier.

Re: Need ideas for a hunt.....
At the Contemporary resort there is a 5-legged goat somewhere and you can find loads of neat stuff at Downtown Disney!! That sounds fun. I love riding the monorail to the resorts and looking around.

Re: Need ideas for a hunt.....
5 legged goat in the Contemporary? Yes, that's the kind of stuff I'm looking for. Is it on the mosaic?
I presented my idea to the family over dinner last night. The kids (13, 11, 6, 4) loved it -- they are ready to pick teams. DW wasn't thrilled but says she will go along. I tried the "honey, it's all about making memories" but she still wasn't cheering.
Maybe this weekend I'll hunt around wdwig.com and get photo ideas and try to find a hidden Mickey list for each 7 Seas resort.
Thanks for the replies all.

Re: Need ideas for a hunt.....
You might want to pick up the book "Hidden Mickeys: a Field Guide to WDW Best Hidden Secrets" by Steven Barrett. I bought my copy at Barnes and Noble but www.amazon.com carries it also. The book gives you clues to hidden Mickeys throughout the world in order to create your own hunt. It sounds like a fun idea!

Re: Need ideas for a hunt.....
I'm sorry it took me awhile to get back...but the 5-legged goat is on the mosaic and you can see it going up the escalator to the monorail platform. The book sounds like a great idea, too. Good luck!

Re: Need ideas for a hunt.....
Great ideas, everybody! Of course, the universal is the Hidden Mickey, give everyone a small clipboard, paper and a pencil, and send them off to find hidden mickeys.
Another suggestion is (if you're near AKL) Look for things relating to an animal.
Finally, try looking for things of a certain letter.
Whatever you choose, give the winning person, or team a souviner, or Disney$ to get their own souviners!
Enjoy your trip, it sounds like fun!

Re: Need ideas for a hunt.....
Hey, this might not be in your budget, but I thought of this: you could use one of those Poloroid IZone cameras that takes the little tiny pictures-you can even get sticker film-and the players can take pictures of the things they find! (Could get costly, I suppose, if you had a lot of things!) Maybe one thing to get is to have their photo taken with a certain number of different characters. (Maybe at Chef Mickey's or somewhere.)

Re: Need ideas for a hunt.....
I have heard of a paintbrush hunt in Tom Sawyer Island, and if you find it, you win free passes to rides, but it might not exactly kill a lot of time.
See the "Making Magic" type board in this site!

Re: Need ideas for a hunt.....
My son and I covered that island a hundred times looking and looking for the paintbrush. One CM told me that it was usually found early in the day- or morning. Then, another CM told me that they don't do that anymore. Even another CM said that it depended on who was working that day! So, you might want to ask around before you spend a lot of time looking, but it was fun and we really got to see the island!

Re: Need ideas for a hunt.....
Ok, here is what I have planned for our 7 Seas Scavenger Hunt. It should be fun. I think I'll try to be more observant to help me be more creative the next time -- assuming the family doesn't revolt and say they never want to do this again. I'll let you know how it goes -- and hopefully post a picture of that brick!
Official Rules : Each team will start and finish at the same agreed upon location. A return time will be agreed upon before the start of the contest. Dad will verify that both cameras have sufficient memory to store the necessary pictures and that the camera is in working order. The decision of the judges (Mommy and Daddy) are final. You probably won’t be able to get all of these things so use your time wisely.
The return location will be:
The return time will be:
For each 5 mins a team is late to the return location, 25 pts will be deducted from their total. The final, and most important rule is to, HAVE FUN. Be silly, enjoy being with each other, and don’t be afraid to “embarrass” yourself.

q Group members with cast members Kipoa, Craig or Aunti Kaui (40 pts)
q Picture of Mom/Dad taking nap on the beach (or lobby if raining) (25 pts)
