Is there any way to find out what percentage of WDW guests are Florida residents with an AP? My husband and I were talking and the question came up.

Not that I know of... it's not on the Disney AP holder website. Disney probably could tell you though since the addresses of all AP holders are in teh computer.

Not as many as you think. My sister lives in Kissimmee, FL and has a hard time finding someone to go to the parks with her. She is the only teacher in her school that has an AP. She knows a handful of people from her church that work at WDW but not any that are AP holders. AP are pretty expensive and most people in the area don't get "drawn" to the parks like we out-of-staters.

Also there are two types of AP...there is the regular AP (where FL residents get a discount although it includes free parking( and a seasonal pass (has black out days does not include parking and is only available to FL Residents)

This is one of those numbers that Disney just doesn't want to share - it might give too much useful info to the competition.

I'd observe that, while the number of AP holders in the Orlando area may be a relatively small percentage of the population, that can still be a pretty big number. I also know of lots of happy Florida residents with APs that live elsewhere in the state. When you look at the kind of special activities and benefits Disney provides for AP holders, it would seem the vast majority of AP holders do live within easy driving distance of WDW. If they were all farther afield, I suspect AP benefits might be a bit different. Still, there are benefits that appeal to varying constituencies. The pin events, Passholder-exclusive pins, and ride opening previews would seem to be of greatest interest to the local/regional crowd. The room discounts are of little interest to the locals, but are certainly appealing to those who live elsewhere in the state and at even greater distances.

One statistic I do have a handle on is that roughly 2/3 of WDW visitors come from outside of Central Florida. That compares with Disneyland, where the percentages are reversed - roughly 2/3 come from the local area. Now, when you consider how many more people live within a 2-hour drive of DL and compare it to the number that live that distance from WDW, it's not that big a surprise. However, over the past couple of years, the Disneyland rumor mill has been actively discussing whether there are too many Disneyland AP holders from the local market, and how that somehow hurts the parks (I haven't quite agreed with the reasoning behind that conclusion, but the notion is certainly out there).

Considering how much larger the So. Cal population is, it's actually surprising that as many as 1/3 of visitors are from out-of-town. But then, Disneyland has a whole lot more competition in the entertainment/recreation business, too.
